  1. IDK if it's just me...but these bowl games seem out of control. A MAC team playing in Alabama? Who on earth down there is going to go to that game? And way to snub the vast majority of MAC fans, being no where near the whole of the MAC.
  2. I agree with everyone who replied above. Four games seems to be the magic number. JMU, Can't State, Miami, UMass as wins. I also Put Ohio, Toledo and UCF on upset alert. Now obviously we're not going to beat all or even one of those teams but I think that those games have the greatest potential to be an upset.
  3. For me it goes like this: The bandwagon fans who never attended the institution. Many of those who do attend the institution do not have positive things to say about the institution that I go too, and the arrogance that the town like I grew up in had towards OSU. If you say you were going to OSU people would praise you at your good choice. If you go to Akron they'd question you "why you aren't going to a real school"...and yes I did have that question asked to be verbatim. There's also this asinine over coverage of OSU in all sports related media in the State. We're one of the few states that have as many D-I schools as we do, yet 50% (and that's a conservative amount) is dedicated to OSU. I rarely meet OSU fandom that isn't arrogant or entitled. Whenever I do meet the rare modest one, I praise them for not being a jerk.
  4. I love this! Nothing beats wearing Akron stuff down in Columbus. As well as I would rather play OSU for the chance of gaining prestige in the state by beating them, then playing some other BCS school that would bring little prestige in the state.
  5. Mine too; but I just can't see Toledo taking the MAC over Akron. Akron NEVER gets any love...
  6. Thanks George for doing what you do. I logged on to read about the Zips summer camp and saw all these posts by others criticizing minute, unimportant things. I enjoy reading your articles everyday because it's good to see Zips coverage in abundance over OSU coverage for a change. Seriously everyone? Can we just keep this post to "ZIPS FOOTBALL; SUMMER CAMP" please? I would greatly appreciate it! I'm tired of reading through a million nonsense messages from someone who's gotten their underwear in a bunch. I'd rather read about the Zips Summer Camp. If you want to complain about GT than go create a post under the random section and express your opinions there, where no one will read them or care about them.
  7. I completely agree with you. That design isn't really that bad...neither was the one before it...but it's time for a new look.
  8. We the alumni (and current students) should be the MOST critical of the University of Akron...Because we are the ones who care about it, want it to be better, and can inspire change. I don't believe there is any criticism that we may have that others do not have.
  9. They both get me wound up. A third thing that wounds me up is how much administrators are compensated, and the over enlistment of highly paid "administrators". This Triad, I believe, is the major problem with higher education, and is quite a drain on our economy. It isn't just money in sports, but it's the big money involved with higher education in general that is a problem; however the criticism of it in sports is absolutely warranted.
  10. Not to be a spoiler but showing up to a practice is hardly doing anything for our program. Yes I am one of his detractors, and I never liked him, but maybe if he talked up UofA for recruiting or helped raise funds for a new stadium or something, than I would be impressed. Playing in practice doesn't impress me much.
  11. I do believe that transfers are counted against UA, while the other two are not. In the article itself it mentions "...bachelor’s degree in six years..." but really gives no other information about how it's calculated. It's important to point out, however, that this is a special interest Editorial written by a person who works in Washington, and I would personally summize doesn't actually know the University of Akron other than by a statistical spreadsheet. This is very important because it boils my blood when special interests attempt to use science and apply it to an arguement that they are making. The writer nebulously throws in "critics of higher education spending have pointed to recreation centers with climbing walls and lazy rivers as a prime example of unnecessary investment"...then making a reference to Akron's addition of those two things; as if those were REALLY the cause. First who are these "critics"...throwing in conjecture like that is special interest blabber. Second; The reason that boils my blood is simple...OSU, BGSU, Can't State, Toledo (on and on and on) ALSO have those ameneties and seemingly don't warrant the writer's outrage, or have higher graduation rates. CLEARLY in this case correlation has absolutely nothing to do with causation. Sorry I'm nitpicking, but special interest blabber makes me very angry. There is a point that UA should do more about it's graduation rate, but I would take what this writer portrays with a grain of salt...because it's not a scientific or academic analysis by a long shot.
  12. Looks like Quentin has been released by the patriots... http://www.faniq.com/blog/Patriots-waive-r...ines-Blog-65968
  13. I'd say it's probably student fees. I know a good portion of student fees goes to supporting sports...dividing the "subsidy" cost by the number of students you can easily see that it's around the cost of what student fees are payed by students each year (individually).
  14. Sad to see Franco go...he was one of my New Student Orientation babies that I helped orient to UA. Nice kid, very great parents. But just didn't work out here. Good luck to him.
  15. "Matt Hirschman" Did we miss something coach?
  16. Is that who the the 1 Jersey is after? I'm sorry...I am a current student, so I'm not completely familiar with all the past players. But the #1 jersey was unfortunately the only one I could ever find...
  17. I'm going out on a limb here...but I'm saying Akron will win 5 games this year and shock the MAC; James Madison, UMass, Miami, Can't and Ohio will go our way.
  18. I agree with this. What good could come out of playing Morgan State...or VMU...or James Madison? Other than a pointless win. Not only would more people be willing to attend (because they likely went to either YSU or Akron...or currently do go to either) And we could win a cool trophy unique to the showdown. We've got to understand our Niche. and YSU is a better fill in game than Morgan State...
  19. I like the idea. Frankly I don't know why Akron and YSU don't play more often. Side Note: I also thing (and yes I know the reasons why they don't) but Buckeye State should play Ohio teams more often.
  20. I agree with this whole heartedly. We got some buzz last year from the Tennessee game because a MAC team (especially the worst MAC team) is not supposed to be in any kind of contention with an SEC team, through 3 quarters. I had several Tennessee fans approach me at Neyland stadium saying "What a game!"..."I really hope to see you guys going places..." ext. I get how a guaranteed loss each season is pessimistic; but if it is our only loss in a season...and a good game...that just seems positive to me.
  21. I guess most of us have assumed it would be Pohl because he's had a year under Bowden's system...and we haven't seen Hirschman play. I full heartedly believe that we will have a running between the two of them for starting QB. It's Pohl's to lose that's for sure.
  22. Holy s***! People need to calm down, it is just a GAME, chill out. I mean I could understand if this was Ollamaliztli (the Mesoamerican game where the winning or losing team would be ritually sacrificed), but it isn't. The major takeaway here is men being men. Two guys get into physical fight, one stabs the other, friends of stabbed man kill the man who stabbed them. It seems that it had less to do with sports and more to do with a fight and people not knowing how to act like adults. I despise Can't State and Ohio University and Ohio State when it comes to sports, and I actively cheer for their teams to lose. But I don't want to get in physical altercations with their fans, especially since I have many friends who are fans of them. People just need to remember that modesty is always the best. If you win, cool. Don't gloat too much. If you lose, well it's just a game.
  23. I was just randomly thinking this, but I thought it might be something worth throwing out there....but why don't we have ZipsNation T-shirts? With our own logo?
  24. No. 1: he's an incoming freshman...how could he be privey to this knowledge. 2: Bowden has a 5-year, $2 million contract. They wouldn't have dedicated the resources if they did not intend on keeping bowden those 5 years and not offer an extension granted the team improves, which it most certainly will).
