Blake Justice

Well thought out, researched and articulate postings from Dave and GoZips. Is the kid a sure fire NCAA star? Of course not. Is he sure to flame out and never play any meaningful minutes for the Zips because he plays D-III ball? Of course not. All I'm saying is don't dismiss the kid just because he is from a smaller high school program. Gotta give the kid a chance.

I seem to remember a certain Zips Linebacker who came out of a small, obscure lower division high school who is now a Zips fan favorite and potential all-MAC linebacker. Don't knock the kid until you actually see what he can do at this level.

Special thanks to bearcat65 for posting a firsthand report after actually watching Justice play.

Here's a little more data I found on Justice:

According to maxpreps.com, Justice was the 39th ranked HS player in the country in number of 3-pointers made, and was #10 among juniors (class of 2011) with 81 made in 21 games.

There's only one short video on youtube to observe his shooting form:

Of special note for those who think Division III Ohio HS players should be summarily rejected from consideration by UA, 6-1 guard Aaron Craft of D-III Liberty-Benton in Findlay, OH, was recruited by and has committed to Ohio State.

Hey, I know absolutely nothing about this dude. But I can say I'm not at all excited about this one. I don't want Podunk's top scorer (we've had this type of player before and none have panned out - McClanahan.) I want a player who's torn up the AAU circuit.

I wanna see Remy Abell in the blue and gold!

Just to get back to the AAU circuit point in here. Seems Akron 2011 recruit Nick Harney lit it up at the King James Classic, knocking out the home King James Shooting Stars (and Mr. Everything Jakaar Sampson) with a 21 point performance over the weekend for the Ohio Basketball Club.

I wish the Beacon had given this tourney more coverage. Players you'd not want to miss, when & where to see them, box scores, tourney champion, etc., etc.

Outside of the major recruting services and select fanboards it can be pretty difficult finding good AAU tournament coverage. The local newspapers don't often cover the events like they do high school sports because there isn't as much of a connection for rooting for the King James Shooting Stars or All-Ohio Red as there is rooting for St.V's or Buchtel. The AAU doesn't put out a lot of information themselves. Usually the best place to get updates is at Rivals. They follow most of the big events and usually do a decent job of updating on the top performers and recruits.

Blake Justice goes for 50.

Justice's 50 leads Peebles to victory

Peebles senior guard Blake Justice dropped in a school record 50 points and reached the 2,000-point mark in his career on Friday evening to lead the host Indians to a 109-82 win against St. Patrick.

Justice, who is headed to the University of Akron, drained seven 3-pointers during the game. Andy Countryman scored 21 points and Jake Daniels added 14 for Peebles.

The Saints (7-15) were led by Ryan Gallenstein's 24 points. Taylor Slack scored 22 and Cory Jodrey and Daniel Yeary each added 15.

More on Blake.

Justice scores 38

The Akron signee, who had scored 50 points and eclipsed 2,000 for his career one night earlier against St. Patrick, said the turning point offensively was when the Indians began focusing on penetration, setting up jumpers.

"Coach (Josh Arey), he talked just a little bit in the locker room about attacking the basket, kinda getting to the hole, looking inside," Justice said. "We started off the second half kinda attacking the basket a little bit more ... we got a couple kickouts and they got me going a little bit, and I hit a couple in a row."

That he did. After Peebles' Andy Countryman scored down low, Justice canned back-to-back treys, the second while off-balance, and then grabbed an offensive board and hit a putback to stretch the Indians' lead back to 46-33.

Another record falls, another Peebles win, another SHL crown Justice breaks SHL scoring mark

It was another capacity crowd and another record-breaking night at Peebles High School last Friday as the Indians finished their regular season by hosting the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs. Most of the crowd was there to see the Indians' Blake Justice shatter yet another record as he became the Southern Hills League's boys basketball all-time leading scorer with a basket in the second quarter. On top of that, the Indians captured the league title with a 12-1 record and finished the regular season 19-1 overall

Blake Justice's season has come to an end. I was hoping to go see him down in Columbus. Finished his prep career with a 27 point game at the OU Convocation Center. I think I would be more than happy if he averaged 27 points a game at the Convo the next 4 years.

We might be tapping the family pipeline similar to the Mcnights. I was doing a little googling and found this article on Blakes brother in 7th grade. 32 points, 10 boards and 4 assists. I know its early and who knows what will happen but maybe he will also be a future Zip. ;)
