Akron1 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/20...named_most.html Good publicity for The U of A! Quote
Dave in Green Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 From the precise wording of the story, definitely at UA, probably at the JAR. Quote
skip-zip Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Beautiful. Now....how much we get out of this depends on how much he decides to talk about us Quote
Dave in Green Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Haven't seen anything about whether this is open or closed to the public. Seems odd to pick a place that seats more than 5,000, and then have it closed to the public. Quote
ZippyforPresident Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Beautiful. Now....how much we get out of this depends on how much he decides to talk about us I know your comment is a lighthearted one with the "toothy smile icon" But I just wanted to say that it's great that he decided to accept the award at our school, and that is all the gesture he needs to make. Thanks for taking pride in Akron. It's LeBron's day and he is being rewarded for all of the hard work and all of the dedication to his craft, which is absolutely awesome for him and it gives all Akronites something to believe and take pride in. Afterall, hard work is something to be proud of, whether gritting it out to take care of your friends and loved ones or proving that Northeast Ohio (Akron) is now basketball's holy land (or both) Thanks LeBron, you're a good man for all that you do for our city of Akron. It's really awesome to think that an international icon takes as much pride in Market, Buchtel, or Exchange street as I do. Keep doing what you're doing friend. I don't think you get nearly enough credit for all that you do in helping this city. Go Zips! and Go Cavs! Beat Boston! Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 At the very least, it allowed "The University of Akron" to be named twice during the playoff game tonight. Quote
MDZip Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 David Aldridge just mentioned that LeBron was going to be getting some sort of award at the University of Akron on Monday after the game on TNT. Nice little plug. Quote

ZachTheZip Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Plain Dealer says 4:00 PM. But they say it's only a rumor. http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/20..._insider_1.html Quote
mes102 Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Straight from the Cleveland Cavalier's twitter page: "Fans are invited to a major NBA and Cavs Press Conference on Sunday afternoon at 4PM at Rhodes Arena on the campus of the Univ. of Akron" Quote
GP1 Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Can someone please explain something to me....why would anyone waste their Sunday going to see a guy hold a press conference for himself? It used to be that when a guy won an award, he humbly accepted it in a small ceremony or before a playoff game. Then he would either answer some media questions or play a game. This is strange and self serving if you ask me. Quote
Dave in Green Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 The focus is always going to be on LeBron no matter what he does. That the biggest star in professional basketball elects to share the focus with his home town, the high school he attended and the university he supports is pretty unique. I have a relative from New York who visited Akron last weekend. He's absolutely certain that LeBron will end up in New York, because the Big Apple is where all the greatest people want to be. What LeBron is doing today is just another in a long line of examples of actions that separate him from other superstars. LeBron is a humble man, which is alien to the New York thought process, so they have trouble understanding how he ticks. It's easy to understand why some people will never get it. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Right. What he's doing is fantastic. He's going out of his way to support UA. UA was mentioned at least twice on TNT during last night's playoff game. It'd be a lot easier for LBJ to just hold the press conference @ the Cavs training facility during today's run-through. God definitely broke the mold after He made 'Bron. He's truly one-of-a-kind. Quote

This is strange and self serving if you ask me. 1) To show support for our star player 2) To show appreciation for him choosing The University of Akron - out of all of the places in the world - for his press conference. 3) To show appreciation for bringing every national media outlet to the JAR, which offers both Akron and UA incredible exposure. 4) To show appreciation for visually relating incredible success to Akron, The University of Akron, and Keith Dambrot. 5) Because in Cleveland and NE Ohio, it's very rare for us to have something/somebody so great in sports. We need to appreciate it while we have it, and look no further than the Cleveland Indians for a perfect example of that. Quote
ksu sucks Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Watch the ceremonies live: http://www.foxsportsohio.com/pages/live_lebronpresser Quote

I'm also not buying it does anything for the BB program. If he really wanted to have a press conference going back to his roots, he would have it at St. V-M. He want's UofA because it provides a bigger arena for him to promote himself. I know a lot of you want to believe LBJ sits around thinking about this stuff all day long, but he actually has people think about these things for him. This is a marketing creation by the geniuses at Nike. A commercial won't be far behind. Quote
zipseuph Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 love LBJ as a baller but you can't tell me he is humble when he has the words "chosen one" tattooed on his back Quote
