I know enough dedicated alumni (1), that it has never happened, but I would if I had to. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Edit: I lied. I forgot, I went to a BG game at BG one time by myself the day of the game. It was a awesome fall day and it was on a whim.

I'm neither a family man, nor an alumnus of UA (Walsh U. alum), and most of my friends, sadly, are actually Can't alumni. It's not an uncommon occurance I can't find anyone to go to the game with. But I'm a diehard fan & don't like to miss games, so I still go.

I often just end up asking a girl or two - they don't really care about the game, but think the event is fun & like going out to eat before/after.

But I'd say that, on average, I usually end up attending 2 games each season by myself (usually toward the end of the season, when it's cold/rainy & the Zips suck - which is like, every year.)

I actually had 3 girls ask me (together) just last week, "When are we going to another Zips game?!" I was pretty excited until I heard why they really wanted to go: "We're hungry for Crave after the game!"

I don't mean to insult anyone, but going alone is boring and personally I would feel weird. It would be like going to a restaurant alone or going to a movie theater alone. Just awkward and it's not very difficult to find someone to go with...

I've done the restaurant alone numerous times on business travel. Now with many restaurants serving food at the bar, sitting here (at the bar) and having dinner is pretty commonplace (and much less weird feeling). I haven't done the solo movie....yet.

I hate the way the hostess looks at me when I ask for a table for one. I usually just get something to go and take it back to my room. Going to a football game or any other game alone is not that strange. It is unusual for me but it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper than taking my soon to be wife and her never ending thirst for hot chocolate with me. I have been to an Akron basketball game twice by myself because the weather was crappy and nobody wanted to brave the storm. That wasn't strange at all. I went to the last football game alone last year because we were that bad and everybody knew it by that point in the season. Plus cold weather didn't help.

Unless you're pretty shy, going to football games alone is really not that difficult. For our inevitable November games, I've been there alone more often than I've been there with others! When a good or bad play happens, everybody around me normally cheers, and its easy to make comments about the game and strike up football conversations with complete strangers. I've met a lot of great Zips fans that way, and its even easier in the season ticket sections where you tend to see the same people over and over again.

For those of you who question my fan-hood, my first date with my high school sweetheart was a Zips football game.

Everyone laughed then, we've been married almost 25 years.

Since then she's graduated from Akron and I will next year. Non-traditional students.

Anyway yeah I've seen a few alone. None of my friends are fans. Infatuated with "the vest". I just run around with the wrong crowd I guess.

I don't really understand what you mean by "attended alone". I drive/travel to Zips games, more often than not, by myself. I arrive alone, and I leave alone. But, I attend all of the games with other Zips fans. I always find someone to talk to, hang out with, etc., whether they're family (i.e., a niece who is a current student), long time friends (alumni with whom I graduated), or other Zips fans I've met at other games or just met. I never feel alone...I'm always with other Zips fans...GREAT PEOPLE/FANS!

A couple of examples...

Flew from Akron/Canton to N.C. alone on morning of September 5th; met up with 50+ AWESOME Zips fans in the stands of Spry Stadium at WF that evening...also shook hands with several players of the #1 D-1 Mens Soccer Team in the country before and after the game...players who made sure I knew they were happy I was there. NOT ALONE; would not have been happier to be anywhere else that day.

Met CK and Mike Rasor at Akron/Canton airport when I was flying "alone" to Portland to see our Zips in the NCAA Mens Bball Tourney. Knew I wouldn't be alone in the arena in Portland, before I left home. Made GREAT friends in both Rasor & CK; Checked out the micro-breweries with CK. (Rasor was actually on a different flight; headed to Louisiana, if I remember correctly.)

I'm not sure what the point of this poll is, but my point is Zips' athletes/coaches/staff/etc are awesome people, Zips' fans are awesome people. I may arrive at a game alone; I may go home alone. But, I'm never alone at any of the Zips' sporting events, and I never let "not having anyone to go with" keep me away. My glass is half full, and I've found life to be much more fun that way.

GO ZIPS!
