What could have been done with you season ticket $

I spent $505 on worthless tickets (Including $25 for the Can't Game but that is dirty money now)this year. Wow it hurts to even think about how I could have spent that hard earned money on other goods, service, or entertainment. Tack on the $50 for parking (1 tailgate too many in 34) and $30 or so dollars in concessions...CALCULATING...this season has cost me a grand total of $585 and about 8 Saturdays that I will never get back. I really hate when people say only true fans would keep throwing money at this crappy program. I have purchased season tickets every year since my graduation in 2006. I know, I know...some of you have been season ticket holders since before I was born and I commend you for your dedication. However, this thread is dedicated to how we plan to spend the same amount of money next year or how we should have spent it this year. I'll start with a mini-vacation.

Wish number 1

Next year I would like to take a 4 day trip to the beach in North Carolina with my wife. It is about a 1,300 mile round trip drive to Emerald Isle

GAS & Tolls: $106.00

FOOD & Beer: $60 a day or so for 2 people= $180

Lodging: Islander Condos $299 for three nights including tax

Total of about $585...Watching (or not watching) three ZIPS games/ year on DVR PRICELESS I would also feel a whole lot better sitting on the beach than I do about this wasted season. Hell I bet that I could play a few rounds of golf too if tailgating food and drink were thrown in.

Wish Number 2

I should have put it in my 401k. Hell, $585 dollars at 5% interest compounded annually over 35 years would yield $3,226.87 towards my happy retirement. Damn I could probably buy a month's worth of my medication in 2045 with that.

Share your dreams :D

People need to stop complaining. If you want to be a fair weather fan, go root for Ohio State...

Being a "fair weather" fan and not wanting to waste money are two entirely different topics. I'll still watch the ZIPS on tv and purchase discounted single game tickets. I will consider buying all of the games upfront when the product is of consistently adequate quality.

I do not regret the money I have spent on the 2010 Zips. What I regret that I can't hogtie anybody to come with me for a tailgate and a game. I will be flying solo for the Western Michigan game, so I am actually going to work Saturday morning at an auction in North Olmstead, instead of coming to tailgate. Not much fun by yourself. :(

I am almost afraid to see what kind of a crowd shows up. I picture something similar to last year's EMU game. I have not been able to confirm this, but the story on the MAC BBS says that we are ranked 119 out of 120 for FBS average attendance at 12,716. Only Ball State trails us. The very real prospect of drawing the fewest fans is so depressing. Just a little over a year ago there was so much optimism and excitement. Sigh.

The jig is up in NE Ohio, wouldn't ya say? Call us fairweather fans, frontrunners, just plain fed up, or--more to the point--tired of wasting money on a bad product. But the Indians "fans" have been in revolt for several years now, and it's not going to get any better up there. And now, the remaining Zips fans are seeing the light. You can't continue to disrespect your fanbase time after time, raising prices, poor hires, and no hope (ever) of winning. Fans are more savvy now, and our discretionary dollars will be doled out accordingly.

If the U of A is happy with their hires and their product on the field, that only compounds the problem and delays any hopes for a reversal of fortune.

I'm an actual Zips supporter, but I can tell you right now: there's no way I go to a football game if I'm not given a ticket. I've seen more entertaining games at the high school level for 5-bucks.

Solution: Instead of wasting the money on tickets, go tailgate, enjoy the atmosphere (whats left of it), and just sit in your car maybe watching other college games or listening to the radio broadcast.

Now that is a great idea. Do you think Walmart would allow a group of us to meet in their parking lot during spring, summer, and fall months?

This is actually a very important post and I bet there are a lot of people MaxZip's age who are thinking the same thing.

I had always somewhat given up hope on alumni around my age (40) and older. I had hope that the younger generation would have something to follow as they aged. They aren't getting the same experience now as they did when they were in school.

MaxZIP was in college when the Zips won the MAC in 2005 and it was probably a great time for him. Five years later, he is closer to 30 than 20, probably doing as well financially as he ever has and married. It's probably still a really exciting time in his life and he has the option to do a lot with his money if he doesn't have children yet. The Zips are quickly losing his attention and I don't blame him.

If the current path of the football program continues, another generation could be lost. I sure hope the turn things around soon.

How about instead of buying season tix next year, we all take that money and contribute it to a fund to buy out Rob Ianello's contract? That would do far more good for the football program than buying tickets again.

Does that mean we would get veto rights on the next coaching hire?

Ya know, I grew up Baptist, and in the Baptist church, when a new pastor is being hired, there's a search committee that goes out and finds their favorite candidate, but then the congregation has to vote to confirm him. I think that would be a great principle for college football. Let the AD find a candidate, and then let the season ticket holders have a vote to confirm the guy. This gives the fans veto power over totally inept "brother-in-law" hires like this one, and some responsibility in the coaching search process. Then, if the guy flops, the only place fans can point the finger is right back at themselves.

i saw a bunch of people putting their tents up to the fence and just watching the game from there....that's the way to go.

They ruined a great tailgate.

We had a great time against the fence. The tent kept our heads dry, and the beer kept our throats wet.

You'd be surprised what you can withstand if you have enough cold beer.
