I'm mad because Tim Carroll didn't get to play. I don't care if he isn't a player anymore, I wanted to see some TC. I could see him over there on the bench, in his tie and sweater vest, itching to go in, knowing that a year ago, this would have been the type of game he would have been all over.

Last time I saw Tim on the court was a month or so ago at the Rec ruining the opposition. Just like this John Carroll game, you don't realize how talented Akron basketball is until you watch them play against guys who thought they were hot stuff in high school etc, etc...

Yeah, I wasn't close enough to get in on that game... Although, it would be fun to see how one could fare against a legit Div. I basketball player.

Tim is an awesome basketball player, just as any players are that can make it on Coach D's squad.

Well said, and this couldn't be more true. This is a pet-peave of mine. The general Akron-area population is almost entirely ignorant about how good Akron's basketball players are. Most folks I talk to seem to think that if you started on your high school team, then you could play for Akron. I simply don't understand this incredibly ignorant sentiment.

Did you know: The chances of playing D-1 athletics is less than 1%?! If you take 100 high school basketball (or football :puke: ) players, statistically speaking, less than one of them will be good enough to play at the D-1 level. Only 7% of high school athletes will play on any collegiate level (so those players from JCU were definitely the absolute studs of their respective teams) let alone the D-1 level.

I think Akron athletics would get more respect in the community if people realized this, but, unfortunately, they don't seem to.

I'll post this here because I don't think anyone has mentioned it: Our atheletic dept as created a PROMOTION! Lord knows they won't market it, so spread the word here. Next Friday vs. Milliken is $1 hotdog and $1 pepsi night. GREAT IDEA, albeit simple.

Smart ass.

:laugh_up::mad_flame::laugh_up::mad_flame:

Did they use my poster idea too?

You're welcome, Tom.

John Carroll is the kind of team where any decent high school starter can play. The Zips just blew them out of the water. We were bigger, stronger, more athletic, better shooters, better ball-handlers and better defenders. There wasn't any phase of the game in which JCU matched up against us. Our walk-ons would be all-stars for that team. Not trying to take anything away from JCU, their results over the years show that they are very good for what they are. But the talent gap is blatantly obvious. It takes a lot of talent to get to put on a Zips uniform and even more to earn significant playing time in it.

Just looking at the box score this morning and a few things are standing out to me.

Roberts played more minutes than anyone on the team (31) and put up a very pedestrian line of 5 points on 2 of 9 shooting, no rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and a turnover. With our lack of depth at the guard spot we will need better out of Daryl.

McNees took seven shots last night. All of them 3's. This has been a trend for him over the years. Granted he hit 5 of them, but I can't help but wonder how good he could be if he ever added some mid-range shots and dribble penetration to his game.

We shot 54% from the free throw line. That is horrible. I suppose we should be used to it by now, but once again this season, free throws will likely lose us a game or two.

Zeke went 6 of 7 from the field. That kind of efficiency is what we really need from him night in and night out. It remains to be seen if he can do it against actual D-I big-men.

Abreu had 5 steals in 17 minutes. If he can keep that kind of pace up he is going to cause a lot of headaches for opposing guards. Very quick hands.

3-point shots are worth 50% more than 2-point shots. Keep shooting, Steve.

I understand that, but to a certain extent when your opponent knows that such a large percentage of your shots come from beyond the arch it makes it easier for them to defend you. If Steve had any kind of a mid-range game that opponents had to respect it would open up even more space for him to knock down those 3's.

Did Quincy Diggs play @ the 2G spot at all last night? Did it look like he could handle the 2G spot, or is he more of a SF?

Diggs was a 2G in HS and at UNO. It's the 3F position that's new to him. But the key point is that he's a wing player, and the Zips coaching staff considers the wing F and G roles to be similar in the team's offense. At least that was what we were told by a member of the coaching staff at last season's awards banquet.

At one point in the second half, Diggs played a number of minutes with Euton, Egner, Green and Abreu. In this lineup, Diggs was effectively a 2G and looked just fine in his old position. In fact, Diggs brought the ball all the way up the court a couple of times, and had no problem handling JCU's press. In the postgame show, the announcers mentioned that it appeared that Diggs could play the 1, 2 or 3 positions. That's the way it looked to me, also. Diggs seems to be really flexible on what positions he can play, and he will no doubt be used wherever KD thinks he's making the biggest contribution to the team.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! It was sooooo good being back in the JAR and seeing everyone...even the staff personnel!!! OK...OK..so I have to ask...DIDN'T anyone else notice this:

During the ZipsLive Radio Show--Coach D was quoted as saying:

"Zeke is 50% better than last year. We will throw the ball to Zeke everytime. Will he be able to deliver the mail everytime? Not yet, but by the middle of the year to the end of the year look out. His basketball IQ is way up. "

BUT

during the post game press conference he said:

"I thought (Zeke) did some good things. We've gotta keep the ball inbounds on his blocks. He has a terrific jump hook. I think he's 100 percent better than he was last year.I'm just sayin.........maybe I'm the only person who noticed this...but oh well...I'm just saying.... :thumb:

I noticed in another thread when KD went from 100% to 50% better on Zeke, so it's good to see that he's back to 100% better. ;)

Other Thread

So how can it be that if Steve McNees shoots 3's instead of 2's, he scores 50% more points...but if he shoots 2's instead of 3's, his ppg drops by 33%?

You mean we're finally seeing things that every other school at out level takes for granted?

Yeah took them long enough...from what i hear they just created the position around the start of September. God knows why they dont go to any away games though.

Whoever is doing the recording and/or editing of these videos needs to learn to, at the very least, duplicate the audio track on BOTH the left and right channels instead of just the left. Its really annoying to only have audio out of the left channel. Hell, let me know when they're editing these videos and Ill come in and duplicate it myself. Its not that hard... Then again if theyd record the audio in stereo, there wouldnt even be an issue.

Zeke was smooooooth last nite, I would rae his improvement @ 100%, 'spcly with the strength he's obviously worked so hard to get. In addtioin, his footwork ahows how hard he's worked, and that, has given him confidence. WELL DONE ZEKE! I especially liked the dunk he put down short, but it crawled into the hole anyhow.

They dont even record with an external mic, they use the built in crappy microphone. The funny thing is they have all the equipment to do this very nice. They just settle for average.
