Chris Wells ignores commitment to Buckeyes

I think the two most heralded running backs to suit up for the Zips the past 7 or so seasons were Christian Morgan and Marcus Sanders. Both were epic busts. Two of the least heralded in that span were Bobby Hendry and Brett Biggs. Two of the school's all-time best.

Sometimes where you're rated on paper in high school doesn't amount to much on the field in college.

In Wells' case...I would LOVE to find out for certain via my seat at the Rubber Bowl! ;)

I saw Wells play this year. He remind me of Eddie George. He is very tall and lanky and is a long strider. He doesn't look like he's working very hard but the results are there. He gets up after every play like it might be his last, but so did another player by the name of Jim Brown. If OSU is telling him to look around, the Zips need to make a BIG push to get him. He has a ton of talent.

So how many Zips fans do you guys wanna predict? Memphis boards say they'll bring maybe 3,000. As much community support as I've seen for this team and with most people being off work from Christmas, I could easily see 15,000 Zips fans making the short 3 hour trek. What do you guys think? I know that's even over our season average for home games this season, but with weather and midweek scheduling, it was a weird year. Plus Akron football fans are about the most severely fairweather as I've ever seen! We can't get 12,000 to some home games yet if we have a champion people are willing to drive 3 hours. Whatever!! Just wanna see lots of blue and gold in Detroit!

I wouldn't expect to see a 5 figure turnout from zips fans for a bowl game quite yet. Not to be a downer or anything but I just don't think the bandwagon has warmed up quite that much yet. 5-8K would be pretty reasonable. By the way ITZ. What is with the sig man. I don't get it, the sign or the chick holding it having a Can't hat on. I guess my head is too numb from finals week to comprehend.

Wells would not have even been three deep for Akron this year.

The #1 running back in the nation wouldn't crack our 2-deep?? You're insane. This kid is going to be a star.

If you think he's the best high school running back in the nation you are a fool. The best running back in the nation would have ran for more then 98 yards on thirty some carries against Hoban. They wouldn't take themselves out of games on crucial fourth and 1's late in the fourth quarter. You all hear that some publications rank him number one and think he's the next messiah. If any of you saw him play you'd agree with me.

I have never seen Chris play in person. But I would like to make this point.

Being an Indians fan, I enjoy going to minor league games to watch the Indians “next stars”

I have watched players from Jaret Wright, CC and Baez in Akron, to Bell, Manny and Thome in Canton.

This is a short list of many to save time. Point is, sometimes when you go to see a prospect,

it is very obvious that the guy plays head and shoulders above everybody in his class, and sometimes

It’s not so obvious. An example (for me) of someone that was not so obvious is Victor Martinez.

I think I saw him play in Akron 5 or 6 times. I NEVER seen him get anything better than a single in a game and

I never seen him get more than one hit during a game. I think I saw three games where he went 0 for 5.

I didn’t understand how this guy was the Indians catcher of the future and I kept reading he had such a good bat???

Well you know the result. He is a huge success in the majors now. I can also make this point with Rudy Saenz.

Sometimes there are certain players that don’t impress you in a lower level of play but have all the tools to do so.

Chris may be a guy that has the tools but needs somebody to motivate him. I don’t know. Maybe you know more

than me on this subject but this was what I thought of when I read this thread. I’m not saying you are wrong or right,

I’m just making an observation. From what I read about this guy, he will surely help this program. Having players

that are rated so high on anybody’s list visiting and considering Akron is a huge accomplishment in our program.

I think the Zips will come in right around 10,000. The ticket office had sold around 5,000 as of yesterday though. It's hard to tell because there will be a certain number of people who buy tickets on the internet and just print the ticket up at home. Students really need to turn out though....and they should take their parents to the game with them to increase numbers.

If Akron does not get at least 10,000, they will NEVER get a chance for an at large bid for a game again without significantly increasing regular season numbers.

OK precipitation is possibly the dumbest person i have ever seen when it comes to football players. The kid is insane the only reason his numbers arent great is because of his line and the awful caoching of Bob Sax. Have you been to a garfield game to see him play, the line is consisted of guys under 5'9" and either are so fat they cant move or are extremly small. For having no support his numbers are absolutly amazing there is no other runningback in the country how could have had his numbers with the lack of talent around him. Delonte Carter will be a decent back for Syracuse but he is no chris wells. Tyrell is also a good back but again he is no chris wells. I hope you guys watched him today in the Army game and saw how he jus carried people into the endzone from 3 or for yards out. mind you there were at least 4 guys hang on him. And saw how fast he accelerates and hits a hole. And as for the official visit. he was notified about it but he did not come to anything except for the practice that was held that saturday. so you therefore cant count that as a visit.

I saw both Wells and Sutton (and Carter) play, and NO ONE thought much of Wells. He played very soft, and nowhere in the same league as the other two - couldn't break a tackle to save his life. We were shocked because we were expecting to see a real show from him, and in all sincerity, it was nothing. Now, that said, it's possible he got his proverbial act together and has been doing better. But remember, he didn't even get Ohio's Mr. Football award. At the time I saw him play I was surprised OSU wanted him. I can't stress enough how unimpressive he was.

Beanie, I went just to see him play, at Hoban, early in the season. Just reporting it like I saw it. He couldn't break tackles, and while I was hearing Hoban had a good defense this year, it ain't Michigan's, either. ;) As I said, maybe he's got his act together. But at the beginning of the season he had problems, no doubt. And Carter did beat him out for Mr. Ohio Football (sometimes the locals have a better handle on the talent than the the national rankers or reporters. Look at the ratings services - often they have no clue, and actually change kids' ratings depending on where they commit!).
