K92
I haven't ever started a topic on the basketball board, but there is no thread yet for the final game. I have no words of wisdom, special insights or bold predictions. Someone just needs to get the ball rolling here. My request is hereby submitted to the basketball team... Please beat Can't tomorrow because I really hate them and a victory would make me very happy. Thank you. :screwks: :screwks:
K92
Wow. The OU loss was more deflating than I thought. Usually a little humor and some Can't bashing can get people to come around a little bit.

ZachTheZip
I'm not deflated. I'm angry. I'm sick of our athletes not caring about their own success half as much as we do.

Blue & Gold
I actually think they gave up versus OU. It looked like they were looking to high-tail it out of the Convo even before halftime. (Perhaps KD sensed that as well and thus, as GP1 pointed out, called those late time-outs so the team couldn't just run off into the locker room?) I'm afraid that if the going gets tough @ Can't they may do the same. Can't is an athletic team who can pressure our guards and guard the 3-point line, generally not a good combo for us. Our team really seems to be composed of a bunch of friendly, upstanding guys that the community (not to mention their parents) can & should be proud of. However, they've really got to be able to flip a little bad-ass-switch once the game starts. So get angry, Zips! Get mean! Get aggressive! Look to abuse somebody out there! Beat that hippie-school down! Go Zips!
skip-zip
I don't know. Wasn't it kind of crazy to think we'd pull off two huge road wins after a string of 7 wins already and wrap this thing up? We're not as good as we maybe thought we were a couple of weeks ago. But, we still might be good enough to beat any team in this league on a neutral court in Cleveland. And that's all that really matters right now. This game will be really tough. We needed quite an effort to beat these guys at home, adn that never gets me too excited to play that same team later on the road. And have we played well there any time in recent memory other than that dramatic season-ending overtime win 4 years ago?

You're right, minus one thing: For Can't and us, the Q is more of a home court than neutral. We have a tremendous advantage there when we bring some big crowds. Let's just hope people show up, we avoid OU, and we play our game against any other competition.
zip37
Sadly, I think Can't will blow us out to about Stow.

And Ken+ has a little bit of the same advantage. But after spending last year's championship game listening to about 50 pretty loud O H I O chants coming from the crowd during the course of the game, it becomes obvious that the advantage is nowhere close to a home game. Zip Watcher
Who's running for the hills? The Zips .. or their fans? Wow. No way in the world this team starts mailing it in. They lost one game out of their last 8, and only 2 of their last 11, and fans think they've got no chance to win a road game against a team they beat solidly early in the season, when we all will agree, the Zips were no where near as good a team as they have been the last month or so. Have a little faith in the guys. If you don't think they want it more than you do, then you're a fool. As far as the Q, it's in the conference by-laws that the tournament will be renamed the Akron Invitational after the Zips make their 5th final in a row. They're comfortable there. 10-3 the last 4 years. Pretty darn good if you ask me. B) Go Zips!
tallzip5
For my first post to ZipsNation... To add some fuel to the fire that everyone of you is lighting within you for the game this evening.... A few of the Can't State Felons came to our campus last night and it seems that they are actually taking this rivalry as serious as we are as they took sidewalk chalk and did their oh so original slogan of "Screw the Roo" outside of the Student Union by the Starbucks entrance..... I hope that all of you that are on here and the ones of you that will be attending the game tonight bring your "A" game...yea we talk about how our team is playing and how we don't know if we are going to be able to pull of the win tonight but let's remember one thing that we say over and over again, that might sound cliché by now but why the hell not...it's Can't State....you all know that our team plays different against them and I have good feelings about tonight And hell....if we can't pull off the win at least we still have that soccer national championship to shove down their throats haha Go Zips
johnnyzip84
Oddsmakers (Zips getting 3.5) are giving us more of a chance than our fans. It's a difficult prediction for me. Regardless of the OU fiasco, the Zips are clearly a better team now than at the beginning of conference play. Of course Guyton didn't play for K.E.N.T. in the 1st match-up. Maybe those factors negate each other, and the home court is worth 3 points? While I'd like nothing greater than to see a win, I'm mostly concerned that the Zips get back to doing what they've mostly done down the stretch: defend the 3-ball and let Nik and Brett McK work it down low. Go Zips!!!!

Dr Z
Welcome tallzip. Thanks for the info about the chalk on the walk. My 3 year old niece loves that stuff. I think that's a 4 credit class at Ken+. We are lucky to be playing Ken+ after the OU pounding. Ken+ game will be easy for the guys to "get up" for. Time for our seniors to step up and set the tone for the run at the Q. VERY important game for our success in the tourney. I think a solid win at Ken+ will go a long way. Zeke was a big difference (no pun intended) in the last Ken+ game. He is a match up problem for them. Look for Ken+ to change their offense up to make Zeke move. Go Zips!!!! I think this is what it's all about right there in that highlight. I really hope nobody is running for the hills, as Zipwatcher suggests. As I pointed out in an earlier post, we've now shown that we can play well enough to beat anyone in the league, especially since the tournament games are nowhere close to road games for us. Unfortunately, we've also shown that we can collapse completely in any game. And when it happens as recently as 2 games before the tournament, it's pretty alarming. So tonight, win or lose, I'll also be looking to see if we can simply do some of the things we were doing during the good period of this year. Of course, I don't like that the game in Akron in January was so close, and that Ken+ has played well since then, has had a major contributor return to their lineup, and have the game at home. But, how much better have we become also? Closer to the team that destroyed BG and Miami? Or more like the team that played OU, NIU, and EMU ? I hope that tonight's performance is good enough to restore everyone's hope.
