tpsjugglerdude
The Marketing Dept needs to set up a Madden contest. The ultimate winner gets to call the plays for the next Zips home game. Reasons this is better then what we have:1. We will have a proven winner calling the plays.2. He can't do much worse3. He won't call run up the middle from shotgun every other play4. It will get mentioned on ESPN (might be a negative)5. It can't get any worse.6. If it works someone gets fired (possibly from both schools) If they don't go for this then they should set up a console on the side of the field and press the "ask Madden" option to determine the plays before every snap. GP1
5. It can't get any worse. It can always get worse. This could have been a good topic in the hands of the right person. I'll give it a shot.Play calling is a rhythm. One play sets up another and coaches get into a play calling rhythm. The reason they run off tackle so much in our offense is because without the off tackle play, nothing else will work. The running game sets up play action. The off tackle running sets up counters and misdirections. Play action is big play stuff and is needed in a pro style offense. Watch any NFL game, they are decided on 3-5 big plays a game...There is a reason the 20+ yards per play statistic is kept. Why do they throw so many short passes? Without the short passes, there is no threat of a big play deep pass. Until those work, the deep stuff won't work.Until the Zips can produce long drives allowing the coaches to get into a play calling rhythm, it will always look like the coaches aren't creative or grasping for straws. Coach I is doing exactly what a pro style coach should do, it just isn't working for a number of reasons. Anyone on this board who thinks they know more about a pro style offense and play calling than Coach I is kidding himself. Whether or not you agree with the philosophy is a different matter. Dave in Green
GP1, I don't think anyone on this forum has ever summarized it as simply and with such crystal clarity as you just did.Nice work.

Everyone that knows anything knows that if you are going to design an offense that will work, you MUST get your knowledge from Tecmo Super Bowl!!! Lee Adams
I hope no one is thinking they know more about a 'pro style' offense than a coach who has actually done it. Maybe there are some out there. But,what appears to be happening into the second year of the Ianello regime/system is that the players who played in the systems both offensively and defensively last year and there are a significant number don't appear at this point to be improving under his coaching. And,to complicate matters the coach chose to start a QB who had never played in his system. Its possible that the 'talent' that has been here for these two years is that bad. I happen to believe that there are some players who play their butts off but were overrated talentwise when they were brought in. Some of those are pre-Ianello. But for this team as a whole to still be performing as badly on the field as they are is very distressing to say the least.

Maybe because they don't have the base ability to get better.

And, the worst team probably has the worst or near worst talent (at least "bottom 10" talent).
Captain Kangaroo
Get the ball in #15's hands. David Harvey single-handedly won games for Brookhart. #15 can do that for Ianello, but not with 4 catches per game. Hit #15, and the other stuff opens up.How many deep throws has LR8 attempted this season? Can he even throw a deep ball? If he can, let #15 make a play on it.This is a recipe for winning a couple games. I want to see us win a couple games.
johnnyzip84
I agree with CK that we need to open things up early in the game and get Suel involved early. I still have concerns about whether the O-line can give LR8 enough time to throw deep, but maybe a few roll outs would do the trick. Can you imagine if we had THIS GUY as our coach If I remember correctly, he coached K.E.N.T.'s Spencer Keath in HS. A playmaker at WR can make an average QB look good, provided you throw the ball his way.We need to go the Jabari Arthur route (speaking of, check out his recent tweets: the Zips are embarrassing him) and throw to Suel until he's drawing every DB on the field. Get the ball into the playmakers hands and it takes the pressure off every one else.
akronzips71
But why is a team that is just about the worst in DI playing a "pro" offense.Maybe our guys would be better off trying a high school offense.Interestingly, most of the guys who play pro offense are ..... wait for it ...... PROSWhich our guys are NOT.
