FIU (Homecoming)

Ianello wants to improve the passing game. I'm not sure what he means by “we have to throw it better. That’s got to be, in the next seven games, what we grow up with.” Seven games? So our aim is to be good by the end of the season? At that pace the players he's working with will have graduated by the time he gets them to the level he wants and he'll have to start over with a new group.

Also, two of our best O-linemen (Kasparek and Bice) are out for a month. Marquelo Suel and ShelDon Miller are also out.

As much as I like "the Chisel", his numbers are bound to suffer with Bice and Kasparek out (although it's not as if he's had huge holes to run through in the 1st place). I think defenses are going to start keying more on #44, and with a weekened O-line unable to protect LR8 it could leave the Zips with few options on offense.

That's a tad nippy for Miami.

I think the Zips will win by 14, but I will give the points when I communicate with Al the Book.

My wife and I took a cruise out of Miami a few years ago. When we arrived back in port the temps were around 65*. It was February and most of the locals working the docks were wearing parkas and complaining about the "bitter cold".

I lived in Boca Raton for 13 years and was stunned when all the department stores sold winter coats and corduroy pants during the fall and winter. It seldom went below 70 in the winter. That is when I would put the top down on my Mustang :)

I believe it was/is inevitable that the Sun Belt conference would move up. That is where the people are migrating. And they don't always mind stepping over the line down there....you won't see much criticism of Miami for breaking the rules down there. Check the new census and the change in # Congressman. The south picked up 8 in the last 10 years. Can we move Akron to the south??

They don't want it.

Wow. How can this offense grow when an already-inexperienced group is missing so many pieces?

We're paying someone $350,000 this season to figure that stuff out.

This week is a mid-2000's "Akron vs. Marshall" type game. Our record is bad. FIU's is very good. We're at home and desperate for a signature win. This is where LR8 needs to shine. He needs to carry the team with his feet and arm. If he completes passes at a 50% clip again, and throws for less than 200 yards again, we lose by 30.

No excuses. The Zips need to defend their "house" this Saturday. Another ass-whipping-game-over-at-halftime result isn't an option.

I totally agree with you CK, but...

Remember when you were talking about the bar being lowered? FIU is being considered a signature win. We're hoping for better than 50% completion and 200 yards. Wow. That's where the program has slipped to. :(

The bar for a "signature win" has certainly been lowered. But FIU is a solid team that won a bowl game vs. a MAC program last December, so I will bestow the "signature win" moniker upon them.

The truth is...we will be an underdog in every game we play for the remainder of this season (maybe K.e.n.t. is a pick'em), and for all of the upcoming 2012 season too. Any D-1A win is a signature win.

I don't see Moore doing anything but 50% and 200yds. Unless we're down 40, like Cincinnati. Then he can put up some respectable 4th quarter stats and give the faithful's Kool-aid Bong™ some fluid.

If Moore is any good, FIU is a break out game for him. We have a chance. If he's Moore-of-the-Same, we get waxed.

Before the season I predicted that the key games for Akron would be vs Temple and Fla Int'l. If they could win those two -- they would have a chance at a .500 or better season. Well, we saw what happened in the opener. And FIU looks to be almost as good a team as the Owls. Akron must score 20+ to beat the spread. Not likely. Nor is a three win season. Even we lukewarm fans are losing any interest we had.

You guys are having way too much fun in this thread. I'm going to have to compose a long, serious post to settle things down.

Don't you do it, Dave! If you do, I'll post tons of I-coach's greatest hits(quotes), such as "I liked what I saw" or "We're going to look at the film." Of course, I wouldn't really do that, but it is funny and we all need a laugh. Actually, I think I might post only Rob's soundbites for the rest of the season, because if you hear it enough(TW) you might want to drink the kool-aid. :puke:

I have not seen any comments about one of the most glaring issues on Saturday. For someone who is considered a high NFL draft pick...Ty Hilton is the biggest sissy in D1 football I have ever seen. That boy not only runs out of bounds a yard before the hit...he goes to the ground before the hit too. Did not hear much of the game on the radio...but the little I did it seemed like it was a topic of conversation…Ty Hilton does not like to get hit. Sorry...looks like a fine receiver but he will never make it in the NFL. I hope the Jets or Giants draft him :-)

Did he finish the game? Yes

Did he fumble after a big hit? No

Was he banged up heading into the game?yes

Will he play next week? You bet

Have the zips had major injury problems at the wr spot (bowser, lefrance, seul?) the past three seasons? Yes

You don't pay receivers to run people over Hilton can run around guys and finish plays out of bounds after a gain if he wants to. I would even consider him polished and pro-caliber for doing so.

The only thing stopping him from the NFL is a major injury. Like MaxZIP mentioned, he's only been back playing full-time for a game or so. Not every successful, pro WR needs to be built and/or play like TO. How did you like his leaping catch over the middle (towards the grass end zone) on a ball thrown well behind him for a KEY 1st down?

This may help explain something, here is a quote from this article -

“He’s improved every week,” Akron coach Rob Ianello said of Chisholm. “We know that’s a great place to start, with a guy who’s going to dot the I for you.”

Does he maybe think he is at OSU?

Why didn't Chisholm start Saturday?
Tender feet

I'm glad he doesn't have an agent to suggest that he not play and risk further injury to jeopardize his career.

So he didnt start because of tender feet but he played the rest of the game? I am glad he was able to play but then why start off the game with three straight runs? Script plays to take advantage of...the #2 running back. Great plan.
