GP1
So IOW, he was just doing what Sweatervest did. Ahhhhh, following the great Suckeye legacy! A lot of people do things for good reasons. For example, Newt cared so much about this country that he screwed a Congressional staffer behind his wife's back...at least that's what he told his ex-wife before asking her if it was OK for him to run around. I think Newt really wanted a three way...and I don't mean a plate of spaghetti with chilli and cheese on it. Newt and his home wrecking, Targaryen wife are going to make quite the pair on the campaign trail.

K92
Buzz Bissinger chimes in. Buzz pulls no punches. As it should be. This has to be one of the most disturbing disgusting stories in sports history. All those who were chastised for "rushing to judgment" in previous posts are owed an apology. K92
No apology needed for suggesting one wait till all the facts are in before "rushing to judgement." Is it alright to have an opinion at this point? I am sure there will be some more facts discovered.
Zipmeister
Is it alright to have an opinion at this point? I am sure there will be some more facts discovered. I believe it is now acceptable to have both an opinion and to have "rushed to judgement." At the margin, the difference between all the facts and the facts now known appears to be effectively zero. Dr Z
John Harris of the Tribune writes that This is Only the Beginning for PSU It’s the biggest sports story in our lifetime. Bigger than steroids in Major League Baseball, bigger than Spygate and bounties in the NFL, bigger than NBA players fighting fans in the stands. GP1
Deadspin at its best again. Anyone remember the old X Files show? Fox Mulder always had that sign on his office wall that said, "I Want To Believe". That's what a lot of sports fans do with the people they see on TV. For many PSU fans, Paterno could never be a guy who covered something up because he wanted to continue to coach and wanted to win more games. For OSU fans, Tressel was just a guy protecting his players and not someone who needed those guys to win games so he covered everything up to keep them on the field. It's the either/or high school debate club nature of media and society these days. Deadspin has a lot on it that is funny. Normally they are at their best when they are taking a crap on someone who deserves it. Every once in a while, they do something serious and it almost is always great. This is a good example. Why? It presents the "and" issue that someone can do good deeds and do something really self serving and just plain wrong. I love a good "and" article. Big Zip
I am listening to the press conference on the radio and if this isn't the definition of lack of institutional control...I'm not sure what is. Given the penalties other schools have seen for "FAR" lesser things I hope the PSU football program gets the death penalty. SMU got the death penalty for drugs and cheating....allowing children to be molested on your campus is the worst. I said allowing because the lack of care regarding this by these children is disgusing. On a side note the blinded PSU fans and alumni who continue to try to defend Joe Paterno (my relatives included) disturb me to no end. K92
GP1, Thanks for the deadspin link. Just spent a half hour reading Penn State stories there. Some of the comments after the stories are better than the stories. There is some outrageous, piss-your-pants black humor in there if you're into that kind of thing. It is sick and disgusting. Child molesters are the 2nd lowest form of human life, only surpassed by those who enable them. This makes the whole Penn State aura about doing things the right way a hollow and superficial advertising campaign. To think...Paterno once condemned Jackie Sherrill and Barry Switzer. Disgusting. zippy5
They would be so much better off just keeping the story out of the news. Instead they prove over and over again that they place football above all.
