Does anyone remember how long it took after JD's firing to hire Ianello? Just wondering what the time frame would be until we hear who the new coach will be, or at least hear about some interviews.

Owens fired 11/16. JD hired 12/16.

And: JD fired 11/28. RI hired 12/9.

If history is a guide, we should have a new head coach in two weeks to a month.

Hmmmm (with all due respect to the original creator) ...

This man, Jim Tressel, best be the Zips number one choice.

Mr. Tressel has all the experience, tools, connections and drive to

quickly pull the Zips out of their nose dive. All other coaches, especially

Paul Winters are suspect.

Akron badly needs a coach that can get all aspects of the job handled.

That man is Jim Tressel.

Do you want to remain mired in the cellar of the worst football conference

in Division 1A? Or, would you prefer to become a BCS school?

Only coach Tressel can deliver that goal at this time. Take the blinders off.

Go for the best available coach. His name is Jim Tressel.

With all due respect Akron fans, you are not going to get Eric Wolford of Youngstown State. The ONLY job I ever see him leaving for is Kansas State for Bill Snyder, where he graduated from in the early 90s.

I can't see how moving from YSU to Akron is a step up for this guy, that has our program moving in the right direction and will likely be a preseason top 3 team in the MVFC next season.

Best of luck in your coaching search.

OK there bud. Keep him. Also, why the post that seems so troll-like when ZN is celebrating at the removal of The Grim Reaper? We wouldn't do that on a YSU board when your program is down.

The ONLY reason I posted was because his name was on that list in the poll and it left me scratching my head. I think you would agree it would make no sense for Wolford to leave YSU for Akron, correct?

And look at all those Youngstown guys on that list, can't go wrong there. At least you have the right idea, though I doubt you get Tressel.

FBS is a step up from FCS. We aren't saying this, it a freaking fact!

Comparing YSU to Akron is like comparing YSU to Wayne State. Completely different level.

Some more names I've heard pop up: Brian Polian, Chuck Martin, and Mick McCall.

Forgot about Chuck Martin, right type of guy, extremely successful at a lower level. Though some people have said "NO MORE NOTRE DAME ASSISTANTS!!!!!"

I think we would all make an exception in Martin's case.

Don't know if this was posted yet, but footballscoop says we are targeting Tressel, for what it's worth:

Akron: The same source that confirmed to us the Akron news on Tuesday has told us that Akron officials are targeting Jim Tressel. For what it's worth, Akron's facilities are considered "the best in the MAC".

I was at the basketball game last night, and overheard a conversation that TW was having with someone that the first candidate is coming into town Monday or Tuesday and they needed to keep his trip quiet. So they must be having a big name coming to town early this week. I'm really thinking we will either have JT or LF by December 9th.

It pains me to write this, BUT, I just don't see Luke moving from coaching at an above average football program to taking over the mess iCoach has created. Would that be a good career move for him?

Great question. I think it would be a terrible career move for him. IF he can stay on staff at OSU for just a couple of more years, better opportunities will open up and his professional experience will be expanded beyond Owens and Tressel.

I would tend to agree with these as reasons logic would compel Fick to stay at OSU, plus no move for his family (kids schools). Staying is certainly less risky than leaving. Heck, he may get a better offer than Akron yet this year.

On the other hand, maybe he has anxiety over how his role will play out under Urban Meyer. Have you ever had a job where you got a new boss, and it was clear the new boss never considered you one of "his guys", and you never really felt comfortable with them? Luke must be wondering how that situation will work out.

Plus, while he'd be taking over a bad program at Akron, he should be able to improve it fairly quickly and then move on to coach at a bigger program.

IMO, it could be decided based on money, and how comfortable Luke feels being in a situation where he knows he was "pushed" onto Urban Meyer by the OSU atheletic department. UA may be able to close the gap regarding money. The other variable can only be determined by Luke's gut decisons, and likely only after he has had substantial discussion with Meyer (who will surely say all the right things). I doubt Fickel will be prepared to make a decision right away, unless he has already concluded he does not want to stay on under Meyer.

Why would Meyer want a leftover from the Tressel era. All that does is divide loyalties among the players. You know there would be players who would have more loyalty to Fickell than to Meyer in a case like that. He doesn't need that crap. Its not as if Meyer couldn't pretty much get the pick of any assisstants he wanted.

Supposedly, the OSU administration and athletic department insisted to Meyer that he offer Fickel a position as a reward for his thankless job of loyally leading the team during this season of suspensions, investigations, and turmoil.

They are rewarding Fick for his service as a good soldier.

Thats nice of OSU. One would then assume as Meyer is, that Fickell will take a head coaching job somehwere pretty quickly. No reason for him to hang on at OSU any longer than he has to if he gets a job offer. His guy Tressel is gone. Meyer owes him nothing.
