This is why I don't come to forums like this, I try to be insightful and tommy toughnuts calls me out saying I'm lying. Whatever, I know I said the truth. I belong to other forums and never post bs. You want my other forum info and check it out? Feel free to little man ;)

Marky Mark, if "Mr. Withers" is good enough for you, he's good enough for me. Your info is impeccable. We'll let you do the introduction at his first press conference.

... I feel like I'm talking to a Can't State fan :wall:

I don't even want Withers. Why would I randomly make that story up? That's stupid. It's pretty immature to accuse me of something so stupid.

I'm going to take a wild guess.. Are you a Steelers fan?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you are not just messing with us. So, here is a tip........

It is Winters, not Withers. Paul Winters.

All the hype about Tressel has proven that the community wants to be excited about Akron football. They just need someone to be excited about. I hope Wistrcill takes note. We need more than just a coach, we need someone who will create a buzz. If Toledo's OC is really our second choice, then we will make another huge hiring mistake. We simply cannot afford to wait until the new coach "builds" something over the course of a few years before they manage to win enough to excite the community. A coach finally getting to six wins three years later while languishing in obscurity won't do jack to help the program. The coach needs to be recognizable, someone people are interested in keeping tabs on while he struggles to fix things in the early goings. Last time, I said the same thing about what our coach needed to be. Instead, Wistrcill hired a no-name nobody with no real resume. I hope he's learned his lesson.

I don't think Paul Winters is that guy. I do think Terry Bowden is. People understand the name Bowden. The only people who recognize Winters are the hardcore fans from over a decade ago. That won't excite the community enough to throw their support behind the program. Carl Pelini and Brian Polian are other good names.

Not that Bowden wouldn't be a great hire....but. Why at this point in his career after he has coached in the real big time and has been successful with non-football gigs as well as his current gig would he need or want to come to a place like Akron? He is not oriented to this part of the country. He has stated he wants one more shot in the SEC if he could get. But,he hasn't gotten some bigger jobs he has interviewed for. He is going to get more exposure down south by doing what he is doing now. But,you can always make an offer.

:( My iPad automatically corrects stuff and it must of switched it. I can see why you think I'm lying. I'm sorry, I was so pissed I didn't even realize it was happening.

Need to override that "must of" too. Ipad probably meant "must have".

B)

Well... I did fail English my sophomore year in h.s...

Any clown can hire the most-familiar name they hear.

After the name "Tressel," no other "name" carries any weight in Akron Ohio.

Pelini? Polian? Bowden? Have all three of them walk through downtown Akron for 10 days, wearing one of those "HELLO MY NAME IS" stickers on their shirt, and see if one person recognizes them.

Please Please Please... If Zach starts the ant-______ shit prior to the new coach doing anything just because he did not like the hire, ban him from the site. Let's not poison the new guy before he gets started.

Anybody know this guy? His Twitter profile says he's an intern at ESPN Cleveland.

His tweet from a few minutes ago........

BobbyDigital2

Got a new candidate rising for the akron job , and found out why tressel has been around the program

just read that myself...I'm starting to look up coaching connections with Tressel while he was at UA possibly. Or just people he knows very well. I'm wondering if Tressel is trying to lure more than just a head coach here. Maybe some assistants too? This might sound bias since I've graduated from the same high school as this guy, but Jim Heacock did a great job in Columbus as Defensive Coordinator. possibly seeing him come up as an assistant with the right head coach...

Don't know him personally, but it's probably Bob Demyan. He's posted on FB that he interns at 850AM. I'm sure the guys there have some sources.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tress is trying to find some coaching jobs for his former staff that Urban is letting go, including his brother, Dick.

A friend of mine told me late yesterday afternoon, that in all the midst of Tressel talk, he didn't talk about Tressel to me. He told me Winters was in the fieldhouse today(which was yesterday). I immediately told him it was probably someone else because he's preparing his team at Wayne State for their DII national quarterfinals game against Minnesota-Duluth this weekend...

Maybe he saw Denzel Washington?

If we could get Denzel Washington to be our coach, and he just gave speeches from Remember the Titans to our players, I'm sure they would perform better than then have been. Is that the best movie ever or what?

When are people going to get off this...some guy tweeted that Tressel is in the board of trustees meeting right now...If he is, he's there to talk about his reccomendations for the next coach probably...nothing big...

Last time, we took some old coach's (Barry Alvarez) recommendation over having a legitimate coaching search. Look where that got us. Are we going to listen to Tressel just because of who he used to be?

You're right, we should ignore the advice of a national championship-winning coach and go with who TW thinks is best. That worked out SO well last time.

That movie wasn't about football as much as it was African-Americans and whites coming together to achieve a greater goal. A lot of the quotes were for that reason. You're right though, it's one of the best movies ever and some quotes would be successful. Plus, Denzel would raise attendance. Haha.

This man 461753.jpg will make Akron the capital of West Virginia once again!

Hey, he was 28-12 at WVU!

My kid is a WVU alum, so I'm a big fan and pay close attention to the Mountaineers.

I hope the post about Stew and Akron was a joke.

He was not a good game day coach (sound like anyone else we know?), and he really made a mess at WVU on his way out.

In spite of his record, Oliver Luck decided to get rid of him less than a year after becoming AD.

It was a bit tongue in cheek. But Stewart might be the most hated coach ever with a 70% winning percentage at one school.

For those who mentioned Leach as a stretch candidate..........

He just took the job at Washington State in the PAC 12.

This from Football Scoop:

Washington State: Bruce Feldman is reporting that Leach's deal is 5 years, and will make him the third highest paid coach in the Pac-12. Our analysis puts that at north of $2.5 million per year.

There are stilll supporters who point to his overall record. No doubt, it sounds odd that a guy with that winning percentage should be considered weak as a coach. I'd go into it, but that is talk for the WVU forum.
