InTheZone
So is there any chance the great GP1 might do some in-person, head coach scouting this Saturday in Winston-Salem? For the rest of us, the game will be shown online on ESPN3.

Just click on the appropriate game in the bracket.
ZachTheZip
No way Akron pays anything close to 500K a year. Where is the money coming from? Buyout of iCoach, no ticket sales? You cannot write checks that are going to bounce. Donations from people who want to see this program succeed. Why do you believe that the athletic department is a closed system that can only spend what it makes in ticket sales?

LOL Other peoples money Because I can read the budgets that have been posted on this site and know that Akron is not awash in cash. You made your thoughts known and I disagree. It's not the end of the world. I just do not think that Akron is going to pay someone $120K more as a head coach than we did for the iCoach AND pay for a solid group of assistant coaches to go along with them. The Assistants are the key to any staff so if you are going to break the bank then do it for the top 3-4 assistants. Akron will pay somewhere in the 425K range plus incentives and should have a salary pool of around $850K for the assistants if we are going to be a player. You get the right coach and the big donors will pay. They want a return on their investment (stadium naming rights). But I can see where you're coming from if we're sticking to hiring someone like Paul Winters or Joe Moorhead. That won't get the money flowing. But I can see where you're coming from if we're sticking to hiring someone like Paul Winters or Joe Moorhead. That won't get the money flowing. Win games and the big donors will pay. Our stadium is already named. Winning will get the donations flowing. Naming rights are a form of advertisement. If the team wins, more people go to the game. More people go to the game, the more people see the advertisement.
GP1
Paul's team plays W-S State Saturday in Winston-Salem. Maybe the Great GP1 needs to make a road trip.
Zip Watcher
I'd like to see you holding up a "Paul Winters: Please call 1888-99Akron. You're Zips family wants to talk" sign. Stand by the guy with the Washington State flag. He ALWAYS gets on the air. Love Winston Salem.

GP, tell me what you think of the overall team size and speed of that level of D2 ball in person. The game last week that a lot of people here watched was played in northern Minnesota in frigid 20 degree weather. LSU would look slow playing in those conditions. My experience in the Ashland-WSU games I've attended is that the level of play, at least amongst the starters, is comparable to the MAC. The difference between the GLIAC to MAC is about the difference between watching a MAC game to a Big 10 game.
skip-zip
TIP: Paul Winters is NOT number one on the radar screen. Someone else is. I know who. Do you? This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I would be surprised if even a successful D-II coach was the most targeted candidate for any D-1A school looking for a head coach. I'd be incredibly underwhelmed if he is selected. I see him as the "we couldn't get anyone else" candidate at this point.

And I can see that the emotion continues to bring out the "I know better than you" attitude from a few select poeple on here. But, let's separate two things here: I'm not predicting who is going to be hired, or who is not going to be hired. So, please save yourself the time. Everyone on here can dig up multiple posts regarding wrong predictions from posters on this site. I just have a negative opinion of Winters on several levels, and don't want him to be our coach. I hope every one of our coaches wins us a MAC championship, regardless of my opinion about their professional abilities.

But if you had your druthers, who would you want to see hired? I’ve made it clear that while I like Winters and think he would do a respectable job here, I will not be nearly as disappointed if he doesn’t get the job as you apparently will be if he does. There are quite a few additional names I’ve seen mentioned here that would get me excited for the direction the program is taking.

Last week I had never heard of the guy, but have just recently become familiar with his resume. -2-time 1st Team All-American defensive lineman for Mount Union. -Part of 5 National Championship teams @ Mount. -OC @ Mount for 2 seasons before moving to BUGS. -Now in his 3rd year as OC of Toledo's incredible offense. What impresses me is his playing experience is on the DL, but he's just proven to be phenomenally successsful as an OC. Plus with his experience in coaching the OL, his experience & success in recruiting elite-MAC-level talent and his being from nearby Massillon, man, this guy is awfully intriguing. Dave in Green
Campbell worked with Urban Meyer as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green, and is a rumored "top target" by Meyer as offensive line coach at tOSU. How ironic would it be for UA to snatch up a coach targeted by Urban Meyer at tOSU? Urban Meyer’s Coaching Staff: Offense
