ZachTheZip
I have to believe that even the current players on the roster will be more motivated and "coached up" than they have been since their arrival at UA. I wouldn't wanna go face an angry Coach Amato after letting a running back slice thru me like a hot butter knife. It's time to light a fire under some players' butts. Let's see some energy and pride in their ability to stop the opposition. After all, that IS what they've been given a valuable scholarship to do, isn't it? Either you're a D-1 player or you're not. If you're not, please step aside and let the MEN onto the field. Maybe they'll try harder now that they don't have somebody cleaning up all their missed tackles. GP1
It would be cool if he were in your foursome. Absolutely. We could toast the day with a nice $75 bottle of wine.
skip-zip
Lighting a fire under poor talent is the difference between beating the Saints and Pats in consecutive weeks by large margins and never sniffing that kind of win a year later. We don't have BCS busting talent on our roster like NIU or Toledo, but we have enough talent to help have a mediocre season next year with the coaching we have. The first thing Bowden is going to do is make sure his guys have confidence in themselves. The next thing is having confidence in each other. Then he will give them a reason to believe they can win. And hopefully proof of that belief comes within the first two weeks. I hope you don't really believe all of that. You can't win without good players, no matter how much ability a coach might have in making a poor player perform better.

I think we have a talent problem because we were beaten so badly last year, but I don't know how bad it really is because they were placed in an impossible situation with horiffic coaching. What we are really lacking are star players. If we can get some star players, what is left may not be so bad.

Ianello could EASILY have won 6-8 games over the past 2 seasons if he weren't such a horrific game day manager. If Bowden can do the following, the Zips should win 3-4 games in 2012, and have a fighting chance at .500 in year #2: 1.) Kick-off once per half 2.) Try for a TD (not a FG) when he's inside an opponent's 20, with 30 seconds remaining in the half, and 3 time outs in his pocket 3.) Kick an extra point when he's down 20-6 in the 3rd quarter 4.) Push a 4th quarter home game into OT with an XP when he's down 1pt, with 0:00 on the game clock 5.) Hold an opponent behind the 40 yard line on a kickoff once in a while 6.) Try to win games every Saturday, instead of obsessing on negligible steps within a "process" 7.) When down 3 scores in the 4th quarter, DON'T kick a field goal that maintains the 3-score deficit 8.) Try to beat BCS teams, and not simply run clock and take a paycheck 9.) Inject energy into the fans and team 10.) Openly care about beating K.e.n.t, and getting our Wagon Wheel back Only being on campus only a few weeks, he's already knocked-off a couple of these. Based upon his background, I think the remaining items would be taken care of with ease.

You can't win without good players, no matter how much ability a coach might have in making a poor player perform better. You can't win championships without good players. You can win games with anyone. We aren't as bad off as you guys think we are from a talent perspective. The blowouts at the end of the season were a result of the players giving up on Ianello. That is the primary reason he was canned. Every one of those players wanted him out. What we got was the result of players quitting.

We were fairly competitive early and then the team flat out quit.

From what I saw, poor game planning and preperation were key to lack of success. In game play calling was (you fill in the blank; I can't ). Just think how many times you sat there and told yourself "don't run that play", only to see them do just that. The play calls were not only stupid, but totally predictable! On defense we gave up so many big plays not because our guy got beat, but because they were no where to be found. What did they work on all week? I firmly beleive that with the coaching staff that coach B is putting together we will see much better results on the field NEXT year. On our guys giving up at the end of the season. These are not jr. high players. I think they have enough football sense to recognise the hopeless situation they were put in better than any of us. Pride will only take one so far. ZipRoo
Players mirrored the fans....neither could stand Ianello. And yes, they flat-out quit on him, probably hoping against hope that he'd be fired. I fully expect that Bowden and Amato could take the exact same group of players and win some games. It's the difference between knowing what you're doing--and having the team buy into it wholeheartedly--and being a no-name recruiter from out-of-state who has no business on any sideline in America. Ianello couldn't win with Brookhart's recruits, even though Brookhart could win with his own recruits (as well as win with his predecessor's recruits early on rather well), and that's why JD got so many more years here than Rob Ianello. Coaching makes a difference. I was against replacing Brookhart unless we could hit a homerun, because I knew instinctively at the time that JD could get wins out of his players and there was a risk of downgrading to someone who couldn't get wins out of the level of talent present, even though I recognized that time had run out with a 3win season. Nothing personal against Rob Ianello whatsoever, but there was almost NO RISK in firing him and replacing him. Anyone could fare better. Who he is replaced with turned out infact a homerun (I'll go on record and say that before a single game is played). I hate to actually state something to akin to expectations, but I will be surprised if we get only 2 or 3 wins this year, but I will settle for it. If Bowden says he has a "process", I will actually believe him.
Buckzip
I think people are going tobe shocked with how much talent is on this team. I don't think we are at the top of the MAC, but I certainly think we have the talent to be a 500 MAC team.
