ajgareri Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 I am relatively new to ZN.O and I'm just trying to clear up who he is. Quote
Hilltopper Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 I am relatively new to ZN.O and I'm just trying to clear up who he is. He's a front runner who only shows up when he thinks it a sure win. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 He died from an apathy attack. Quote
CincyZip Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 He's what is going to push Akron over the top. UA needs him. Quote
zipsbandman Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 I am Joe Akron and will not pay to watch crap.....Terry Bowden has got me pumped though IMO Quote
skip-zip Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 He's a regular guy, and a sports fan. But currently, for whatever reason, he is not taking much of an interest in athletics at either of the only two D-1 colleges in the area. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 He's usually found on a couch, where he can deftly perform the "YMCA/O-H-I-O" motions horizontally. He has never been to a Zips sporting event, yet can tell you everything that is wrong with Zips athletics. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I think of Joe Akron as any Summit County resident (or greater Akron area resident - I live in Stark) who is a sports fan, especially a college sports fan, but who has never been interested in the hometown U. Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Together, CK and B&G nailed it! Joe Akron has no local pride or interest whatsoever and even goes out of his way from discouraging those around him to have any as well. In many cases, he is a Scarlet and Grey zombie yet has never attended the institution that is south on I-71. Quote
MaxZIP Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Joe Akron will/may become a Zips fan and possibly a ZNO member if inspired by one of the following: 1.) A personal connection to the University Community (Alumni, parent, friend) 2.) Having their inner sports fan engaged by on the field/court/pitch performance 3.) Feeling like the University Community is open to new members w/o affiliation beyond proximity (merging the values presented in marketing with those of the local community AKA giving the program a local flavor) 4.) Consciousness of the value of supporting local programs (outsourced inspiration and convenience) Quote

Zip Watcher Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Ditto .. except for being out of state attending schools. Quote
GP1 Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I am Joe Akron and will not pay to watch crap.....Terry Bowden has got me pumped though IMO Then he would finish with, "If they give away free tickets at Acme, I'll try to get over my grudge about Dennison getting fired even though I never saw one of his teams play and go to a game...as long as the parking is free. Dr Z Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I'm not a UA alumnus. Just a lifelong area resident.A couple of times I thought of starting a poll to see what majority the ZN posters were, alumni, area resident... Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 A couple of times I thought of starting a poll to see what majority the ZN posters were, alumni, area resident... Good idea! Maybe throw in ex-Zip athlete as another category (even if it overlaps with alumnus)? Relative of Zip athlete? Quote
Spin Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I'll be alumni in June. Technically that makes me a tweener. Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 A couple of times I thought of starting a poll to see what majority the ZN posters were, alumni, area resident... Do it up, Dr. Z. You have honors on this idea. I am fascinated to see what the results are. I would be interested to know what other schools fellow alumni have attended as well. Pitt and CMU here though my loyalty lies with UA! Quote
