I think we may be seeing the end of the assassin. In the post game interview KD mentioned he was going to choke Nik if he kept taking those early threes. Don't think his three point attempts tonight (0-4) were a result of coaching.

As Nik was setting his feet for his last 3 point attempt of the night, the entire crowd could be heard groaning and saying NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Put the ball on the floor and get to the bucket Nik.

When the Serb was hitting about 40% of his 3-pointers earlier in the season, it was a pretty effective weapon. Over the last few weeks he's trailed off badly and his season average is now down to about 30%. If he can't consistently hit 3s at a high percentage, there are others on the team who can fill that role.

Unfortunately, I think the Serb will keep shooting 3s till he makes one. He is wide open when he takes the 3s but he has missed about 10 in a row so he seems to be aiming the ball instead of shooting it. Many of his recent attempts have been short and some even haven't made it to the rim. The first 3 he took was an air ball and Miami when on a run after he missed the 3. The Serb was very good around the rim the second half and had a great full court pass to Walsh. Late in the game he made a foul shot and wanted a high 5 from Zeke but Zeke was talking to Keith. The Serb grabbed Zeke's hand and got the high 5. Zeke was clueless. The Serb is definately a fun kid and a great basketball player. When he is playing his best this team can be unbeatable.

I think it's fair to say that his ability to hit that shot has deteriorated. The question is, how will Keith truly handle the situation?

Remember, this is the same coach who let Humpty keep launching 3-pointers a couple of years ago when he was accumulatiing a stretch of something like 24 misses in a row.

He may have a desire to curb his desire to take those shots early in the game, so that we can establish some other things. But, based on what I said above about Humpty, I'll be a bit surprised if he gets the instructions to "just stop taking that shot". In fact, at least as of tonight, it may even already be obvious that he's continuing to get the green light.

Last night Nik was scoreless in the first half and launched a few 3's, but in the second half he was able to fake the 3 and had quite a few nice drives to the hoop that resulted in points for his team. Nik brings so much more to the table that I am willing to put up with a few bad outside shots. I don't think KD is going to embarrass one of the Senior leaders of this team by making a big deal out of it during the game.

On the post game show he said he was going to strangle Nik if he kept it up. Steve said KD woudl have to be Joe to it. Nik taking three point shots is not Sr. Leadership and is a detriment to the team. I would start Tree in front of him on Saturday to try to send a message -- KD has told him (he said so on the post game show) and he is obviously not listening.

To clarify what KD said in the post-game interview, he expressed his displeasure with the Serb taking 3-point shots early on the shot clock. KD did not say that he didn't want the Serb taking any 3-point shots.

Anyone who has sat in on a Zips practice this season knows that the Serb has hung around practicing 3-point shooting after most of the other players have left the court, and KD has done nothing to discourage him from that.

I think that kids today love shooting the 3 and the Serb is no different. I am sure that the Serb thinks this is a part of his arsenal of offensive weapons and if the defense is going to give him open 3s he is going to take them. However, even our good 3 point shooters Nitro and Walsh have been struggling at the 3 ball. If the Serb wants to shoot from the outside, take a 12-15 footer. Show that you can make open 12 footers before you take shots from the 3 line. He is still one of my favorite players to watch because of his enthusiasm for the game.

I agree with KD

“I’ve been hard on him in getting back to what he’s really good at — being a junk-yard dog.

He’s Dennis Rodman. When he does that, he’s one of the best players in the league." -- KD

Get down in the paint and work like the HOF'er!

Best game Nic has played in more than a month. Aggressive play in the paint and hustle down the floor. He passed up on multiple open threes, so I'm guessing that KD's open criticism seem to work. The next thing I would tell him is quit thinking, and react. When he dribbles more than twice in the half court...well let's just say that when he lets the game come to him, good things happen for the Zips. I hope he continues the rest of his Zips career like he did today. :thumb:

+1. He was our "rock" against ORU. Still missed too many bunnies, but who cares...he was relentless.

I liked this post, Dave. And since he launched a 3 last night, it would seem evident that he has not beein told to stop shooting 3-pointers.
