lance99 Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 The Catholic schools are leaving the league and mostly the rest are abandoning it. Who would you play games against? Exactly! Why go there now? Basketball will be a mess when they leave and at this point, Football will be also. Quote

GP1 Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 The Big East truly is an odd situation. Next year it will be composed almost completely of (former) Conference USA schools. It sure is in an odd place. The way I look at it is, where would you like to live? The MAC is like living in a lower middle class neighborhood. Good hard working people who are trying to do their best. They may not have much, but they can still enjoy a good life. If they do the right things, they can one day live in a nicer middle class neighborhood. The BE on the other hand is a homeless shelter. It's where you go when you have nothing in the hopes of landing on your feet after gambling your life savings away in Las Vegas at the craps tables. Schools that jumped to the BE were making a bet they were never going to win. At best, it is one step away from living in public housing. At the worst, you are living under a bridge. Once the remaining Catholic schools leave, it will be like living under a bridge for those schools. All they will be is a bearded group of piss and body odor smelling bums huddled around a fire in a trash can drinking booze from a paper wrapper nobody wants to associate with. Let them live with the consequences of their "building process"....idiots. There is nothing attractive about the BE right now. Quote

MDZip Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Note to scorekeeper: Please record The Grate One as undecided on the Big East situation. Congratulations! You have been a smartass for three thousand posts! You have just set an all-time record! I knew you could do it! See? I've been keeping track since Wednesday, March 15th 2006! Remember that day? You threw out your first smartass comment on the MAC tournament. Since then you have gone three thousand posts without failing once to be a smartass! Let me shake your hand again! I'd also like to present you with a specially inscribed scroll commemorating this historical event. Again, may I say "Congratulations!" You are an inspiration to all smartass people in this world! GP1 Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Link Best part is at the end when they discuss what to call the league. I would suggest, "The Island of Misfit Schools Conference". Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 It amazes me that no MAC program is on the conference hopping radar whatsoever. Yeah, some putz with a blog might speculate something completely unfounded. But the reality is - core MAC programs don't seem to be going anywhere (carpet-bagger programs like UCF/Temple/UMass/Marshall have never been "core" members). Quote

I always thought Toledo would be the most likely, but I am glad the core members seem to be as committed as they are in this climate. Interestingly, as the Big East looks to finalize their split in 2014, two of the schools mentioned as possible additions to the football-based conference are Tulsa and UMass. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The MAC should force UMass' hands on this and make them either join the MAC for all sports or leave pronto. Quote

The MAC would be better as a smaller league. Quote
