akronzips71
I REALLY want to win on Sunday and wrap up the NIT bid. But I think it would bring the house down to win it at home. First MAC season crown ever! There go the nets LOL.

UAZip0510
I'm not trying to make too much of something, but I don't want them to cut down the nets for the regular season title. Can't State celebrates regular season titles. I'd make a short announcement, let the players get a little recognition, and then go about their business. Let's wait until March 11th to cut some nets down.

akronzips71
Isn't this the first year of the new format, with one conference champ, not east and west champs, and then the better of the two records getting the NIT? Quickzips
Don't care where we clinch, so long as we do it. Hoping it comes on Sunday (I hate seeing us lose games, especially to OU). Don't care about NIT bids at all (I've made that very clear on here several times). The bar has been raised for this program. We can't be satisfied sitting at the kiddie table of March Madness anymore. Time to prove that we belong with the big boys.

skip-zip
In 1986, we cut down the nets when we clinched the OVC title. We then cut them down again the next weekend when we won the tournament. Cutting down nets is good. Anyone who thinks that we would not take advantage of an opportunity to celebrate our first conference title in 26 years in front of our home fans (if it happens next Wednesday) is crazy. tpsjugglerdude
Whats with all the negative threads akronzips71? Do you have no faith in this team? First a thread about coasting the last few games, now a thread about if we want to lose on Sun on ESPN so we can clinch on our home court? Dave in Green
If we say we want to clinch it at the JAR, aren't we saying that we want the Zips to lose in Athens?

I asked a question, and got a bunch of answers. Now save your stupid remarks for Can't state.

Captain Kangaroo
The ONLY way to go into the tourney is with the NIT in our pocket. The NIT is for K.e.n.t. skip-zip
I believe the 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 teams would disagree. You don't think those teams would have wanted to win a MAC regular season title? Have the #1 Seed? Have a more favorable draw? And have to play less games to win the tournament? And have to play less games to win the tournament? Wow did you miss my point. The original post implied that we had no chance of making it to the NCAA's if we didn't clinch the one seed, which would also give us the NIT auto-bid. I simply pointed out that this wasn't the case for the 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 squads. I'm sure those teams would have loved the extra byes, but I also know that they wouldn't have given up the NCAA berths to go back and have the bye. Back to the subject at hand. Again, I really don't care where we clinch. It is going to happen one way or another. Frankly, if this team DOESN'T clinch, we have a lot bigger problems than just losing out on the NIT bid, or having to play an extra game in Cleveland. Losing 3 in a row, including two in a row against the suddenly struggling Bulls and Flashes would be an utter meltdown heading into the tournament. Even losing two of those games would be unaccetable IMO. This team has had momentum the entire conference season. Can't give that up now. Really uncalled for personal attack man. It is one thing to question a fellow fan's opinion on our team, it is another to put into question that fan's academic integrity and the academic integrity of our institution. Your post read that the ONLY way we are getting into the tourney (I presumed the NCAA tourney) was to go in with the NIT already in our back pocket. I simply pointed out that that isn't necessarily the case. Now if you meant the MAC tourney that is an entirely different story, and I apologize for misconstruing your words, but it is no reason to come back with the personal attacks. Now, kindly explain which part of that post states, implies or in any way even hints that I said the ONLY way to get into the NCAA is to get the NIT first? You completely misrepresented what I said, and got offended when I called you out on it. I said, I want to win on Sunday and clinch the NIT. What the hell was wrong with that? Dave in Green
@akronzips71 and @Quickzips, I get where you're both coming from, and I don't think you're too far apart. I think what's happening here is that we're in the unexpected position of having a 3-game lead for the MAC regular season championship with 3 games to go, we're not used to being here and we're all a little disoriented. I think we just need to get used to the fact that it's all good right now, and all hold hands and sing and dance. Sooner or later something will go wrong, and then we can all go after each other.
