GO ZIPS BEAT Northwestern.

If we can get past the Wildcats and win a few more, it seems likely we'll eventually have a rematch with somebody. I mean, this could easily be the Zip OOC tournament! Miss St, ORU, Cleve St, Middle Tenn, Marshall, Valpo....just another testament to the strength of this year's schedule. Go Zips!!!!

There are some impressive teams in the NIT this year.

And THAT is EXACTLY why I'm still pissed off with those IDIOTS...(YEP I CALLED U ALL IDIOTS again--and u know who u are)...for having the audacity to tear down our Zips...YET...even the announcers are saying that this is the BEST NIT 32 team make up ever. Not to mention that a BE team like PITT,didn't even GET INTO THE NIT!! But people on here want to poo pooo the NIT..

GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go SIT DOWN!!!! and STOP TALKING!!!

Welp..back to Chi-town once again!!! LETS GO ZIPS...we can play against any of those boys and like someone else said on here...we can get a REVENGE game against any of those OOC teams we played...would love to see Zips put their foot down the throat of ORU or Valpo...just my personal preference!!

You tell'em Mama!

Seriously, I can't believe those folks saying "I don't care about the NIT".

We have a real chance to advance in this tournament.

Given a choice (that I don't have) I would take an NIT championship against a one and done NCAA bid any day.

Thank you DIG...because I have done EVERYTHING not to get on this board and BLAST :gun: some people! I am so sick of the foolishness...I mean give me a freakin break...this team brought the University their FIRST EVER regular season championship....the FIRST to ever go 13-1 in conference play and the DPOY (who--by the way--broke his season best in block shots) and is well on his way to becoming the NUMBER 1 SHOT BLOCKER IN MAC CONFERENCE!! We got the DPOY AND the 6TH MAN OF THE YEAR..and those IDIOTS (and yes I called you all IDIOTS..if the shoe fits..OH WELL--if it doesn't then good for you!!) have the audacity to degrade and disgrace this team, this season??!! Ridiculous...**exhaling**

now that I got THAT off my chest...lets get ready to rumble in the NIT...my prediction is #4 seed against #5 Illinois AT HOME!!!

My reminder is set on my TV...time to make some noise and get to MSG--momma gotz some NYC shopping to do....:lol:

Look, people are just disappointed. Nobody is tearing down the Zips. We have high expectations for the Akron Zips basketball program. That's a good thing. I don't want our players, coaches, or fans to ever not be disappointed in making the NCAA Tournament. So yes, 24 hours after our team lost a heart-breaking game to a hated rival that crushed many of our hopes of the Zips making some noise in the NCAA Tournament, it's a little hard to get excited about the NIT. If that makes me an idiot, so be it.

Does that mean I won't be tuning in Tuesday night? Not at all. Does that mean that a nice NIT run wouldn't be awesome? Of course not.

We all care about the Zips and want to see them do well...we wouldn't be posting on a site called "Zips Nation" if we didn't. After a loss like last night's, some of us just take a little bit longer than others to move on from it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Now can we all come back together and get ready to kick Northwestern's ass Tuesday night? :)

Why did the announcers keep saying the NIT had a field of 32? There are 4 regions with 7 teams per, right? 4x7=28?

And what a nice field of teams!

We have the chance of being on an ESPN network channel a number of times. I'm down with that.

The potential trip to Washington would be a tough on on the fellas.

Interesting matchup, especially considering the soccer history.

Don't know a lot about Northwestern, but here's how they match up statistically, with the understanding that their stats are against the Big 10 and not the MAC, and we had no common opponents:

UA vs. NU Stats

It looks as if they play a good nine players deep, and their two top scorers are 6-9 and 6-5. I don't see any major size problems in any of the matchups for the Zips:

NU Player Stats

Wish I could make it over for the game. But I have family commitments Tuesday.

@GameChngr44, my wife loves shopping in NYC, and if the Zips make it to MSG, we are definitely going.

@Big Zip, I understand that you're disappointed that the Zips aren't in the NCAA tournament. We all are. We all want the best for the team. The best thing for the team right now is to go as deep in the NIT as possible. Whatever you may say on the forum about not caring about the NIT, I'll bet you'll be pulling for the Zips because I think you're a full-time Zips basketball fan who's just really disappointed right now.

Best NIT field EVER. Period. Honestly, I think this field is better than the NCAA field in many areas minus the top like 3 sets of seeds. I'm pumped about being in it.

Northwestern, really? The NCAA did this on purpose, and they made it a 4 - 5 match up only to piss Akron fans off. However, we can beat them. They came on late, but didn't make it into the NCAA tourney despite a head of steam. This means they are more likely to be vulnerable and have a let down at home. I would love to see that happen. Height wise, we are taller, but they are more experienced in the front court. Shurna and Crawford are there only two legit scorers. I like this match up.

With 7 teams from our regular season schedule in the NIT, it really says something about Dambrot's scheduling. What a great job to him and his staff for putting together an outstanding schedule compared to years past. Next year is supposed to be even better. So pumped!

Get this win and hopefully play the Mavericks at home! Go Zips!

EDIT: Just a note. I'm looking over the bracket, and I'm filling out my second NIT bracket. The first bracket I had Akron winning after beating Northwestern, Washington, Oregon, Middle Tennessee and Drexel. That was sort of a joke, Akron-wins-it-all bracket. My next bracket was serious, and I have Akron getting to at least the championship game after beating Northwestern, UTA, LSU, and Middle Tennessee. The finals would be against St. Joe's, which I think we will win. I'm about to fill out my third bracket, and I'll have Akron lose at Washington. I really like our chances in this tournament though. It speaks measures that I think we have a legit chance at making a run for this thing. I think we are right in the mix, and people will overlook us.

I`ve been to Evanston to see them play one game a year the last several years (My son is a NU grad and season ticket holder for FB & BB}. I watched them take the Buckeyes down to the wire last year and another close loss to Purdue this year. They will drive you crazy with back door lay ups. They seem to get their opponants to play down to their level. Sullenger particularly amazed me last year. He had a couple of bursts where he showed himself, but he seemed to coast through most of the game. Although I have not seen the Zips in person, I think we have the athleticism to take it to NU offensivly. We just can`t let them lull us to sleep. Defensivly, we just need to play 35 seconds every time down the court. They have a lot of guys who can handle the ball, but we have the guys to keep up with them. Our bench will help us keep fresh legs in the game. Zeke could have a monster night. I don't think they will have an answer for him on D, and he could control the paint on D as well covering up some of those back door cuts. I predict that NU scores 55. If we "show up" for the game and play 40 min., Zips score 80. If we allow NU to lull us to sleep, Zips 50.
