Zipmeister
Cute quip but missing the main point that Cooper's performance next season without Groce could seriously degrade his NBA draft potential and end up costing him a lot of money. It's unlikely that he'll get an opportunity next season to look any better than he did in this year's NCAA tournament. I'm certain his 3 for 20 shooting performance in the UNC games turned some NBA scout heads (unfortunately for Cooper, they turned away from him). zipsbandman
Sad day for the MAC. The fact that we cannot keep our coaches is a major reason this conference cannot get anywhere.
Blue & Gold
Sad day for the MAC. The fact that we cannot keep our coaches is a major reason this conference cannot get anywhere. +1. I'm not at all excited about the conference getting weaker just so we look better. Bad day.
Roo
Sad day for the MAC. The fact that we cannot keep our coaches is a major reason this conference cannot get anywhere. Why on earth would he stay? This conference doesn't compete at a mid-major level on the court consistently and even a bump up to a top mid-major is a huge pay increase. The MAC doesn't want to make sports a priority and the pay and support shows that.
Sergeant Zip
Bassett ran out of options: Armon Bassett goes all the wayFollow Mister Bassett on twitter. Love the tweet where he says "Had a bum acknowledge my glow today..told me "you got style young blood". I said thank you my slime." I wonder if he meant "my slim" or is "my slime" new slang? Maybe he is a big Ray Parker Jr and Ghostbusters fan?

zippy5
That would suck. We would sink into the same abyss as the football team. And Terry Bowden probably can not coach basketball. Not a chance in hell it happens. Besides being in a better conference, Duquesne has nothing better to offer.
akzipper
Not a chance in hell it happens. Besides being in a better conference, Duquesne has nothing better to offer. That's really all they have to offer. Akron has a better facilities, fan support, and better athletic department as a whole. If Dambrot is trying to go there for a law degree they may have a case. I also highly doubt they can afford to pay him any more than Akron. I also thought after the first article there was zero chance...but hearing more sources is a bit unsettling. If KD leaves I would say Akron will lose a lot of respect for him.

akzipper
Some interesting quotes in this article about KD's future at Akron. "When you have no aspirations of going anywhere else, you make better decisions where you are at" "I think what makes guys better, not just me, is when you coach and know this is your last stop," You'd like to think a guy like him is honest when making statements like that. Even Terry Bowden had vague answers when asked about his future.
Dave in Green
http://woodsrecruiting.com/2011/02/16/keit...ot-is-an-idiot/ Let's see now, what exactly are the qualifications for having a blog? OK, so the guy took a fragment of a story, imagined the worst and ran wild with it. If today's "real" news reporters can do it, why not a blogger? But the last line of his blog says it all: If you like this blog post, then please sign up for my weekly newsletter. It’s free! You get what you pay for. ZachTheZip
So Duquesne wants Dambrot. Big deal. Illinois wanted Shaka Smart and three other guys before they settled on Groce. The only thing Duquesne can offer is money. The A-10 NCAA paycheck allows them to offer about $750k per year compared to Dambrot's $400k, and the MAC is gaining ground in that regard. OZoner
"And threw him 5 bucks to get busy with on the dollar menu..that's a full course wave" ^Yep, that's an Ohio grad alright. I have to point out Bassett did not graduate from Ohio and would not have even if he didn't leave school after jacking up a guy's face. And Dambrot to Duquesne is just silly. He needs to just stop it.
RootforRoo44
That would suck. We would sink into the same abyss as the football team. And Terry Bowden probably can not coach basketball. While the chances are obviously absurdly low that he would leave...I don't think we would sink into anything close to what Ianello put the football team into. Also, I'm not sure I'd even worry that much. Sometimes I think we are too content with being just a notch above mediocrity. Seeing a guy like Bowden talk of bigger things makes me dream of having a basketball coach that wants to do the same.
akzipper
The same guy tweeted again about Dambrot being the frontrunner. Getting annoyed! Just a thought no one expected Lebron to leave either...just saying But Dambrot to Duquesne would be like Lebron going from the Cleveland to Charlotte
Quickzips
All this KD to Duquesne talk is starting to make me nervous. At first I just dismissed it as pie in the sky dreaming by one or two random Duke fans, but this thing seems to have a little momentum. No idea why KD would do it, but the rumor just doesn't seem to want to go away. I'll be happy when DU announces a new head coach not named Keith Dambrot. zipsbandman
How bad would it be if we lose an alumni head coach to DUQUESNE?
zippy5
I think KD is the frontrunner, Dunlap is right. Sure, a lot of schools want KD...KD won't leave for Duquesne. I think Duquesne should, and will end up with Orlando Antigua.
