ZachTheZip
I've heard some rumblings that tickets for the season opener have already sold out, nearly two weeks in advance. I find this very hard to believe, but that might just be my Ianello-bred pessimism speaking. We do have a beautiful stadium, recognizable coaches, and are playing on college football's opening day. Maybe it really is possible. Or maybe I'm just hearing bad information.
K92
I saw a player update his facebook status with "UCF vs. Akron sold out". Can this possibly be true?
akzipper
I can not confirm or deny, just say that don't take anything you read on facebook/twitter as fact. Usually with sellouts, in the past, GoZips.com is very quick to release a statement. We also would hear about the bracelets for student attendance. I just think there would be more "reports" if something like this were to happen and I'm really not expecting more than 20k...
skip-zip
Yep, I'm thinking that would be HUGE news, and would be all over the place. And we probably would have gotten some "warning", such as "only 5,000 tickets remaining for home opener". akzipper, I agree that 20k would be great. ZachTheZip
Like I said, I'm skeptical. But even if it did sell out today, you wouldn't normally see an announcement on a Sunday afternoon. There could also be other interpretations. Maybe a certain subset of tickets has been used up, like the family section or the visitor's section.
K92
I would be shocked if it sold out, but happy.
akzipper
It really doesn't matter what day or time. If the game sold out, somebody somewhere within the Athletic Department would know about it immediately. Also I agree we would have definitely gotten a warning that only a few thousand remained. Especially for people like me who have yet to purchase tickets. Unless someone this evening at 10 decided to buy 20,000 tickets for himself haha. But like I said, I'm not denying it. It just seems very, very unlikely. I remember when the first game at InfoCision sold out, I believe a week before we got a warning or something like that. Definitely not almost two weeks before. bobbyake
Ticketmaster found 12 family packs available for the game. Not a wise rumor to start because it could cause people that haven't purchased tickets yet to reconsider, fearing they we're too late? UA has been known to use a scarcity marketing strategy in the past, they did it with me the entire summer trying to get me to renew. They posted several times about the scarcity for the soccer camps, and posted when they were actually sold out. If the game was close to being sold out, we would have seen a post mentioning the scarcity.

Create some buzz... Do we know how accurate Ticketmaster is? Because if you zoom in you can actually see dots showing the seats available. If it's accurate I actually don't see many reserved seats left. Maybe a few hundred? And over $100 for Club seats? that's a bit much

g-mann17
I'm going to say its not even close to sold out, current best available: Row 5 22-23 Section 106.
jupitertoo
I'm going to say its not even close to sold out, current best available: Row 5 22-23 Section 106. I just received a solicitation from Akron Athletics to purchase a block of seats for the UCF game. It's not sold out.
johnnyzip84
Sell out, schmell out. I don't really care right now. I just got done watching a replay of the 2001 Clemson-GT game on ESPN classic. What a game!! Tommy Bowden's Tigers win an OT thriller over George O'Leary's Yellow Jackets/Engineers/Rambling Wreck. Can his brother repeat the magic versus the resume padder in 2012?

skip-zip
Then I guess we can pull the "get your dadgum tickets today" messages from the billboards, radio, and newspapers ?? Not a chance. With 10 days left, I'm saying that it would be amazing if we are even at 10k right now, with season tickets and the few people who would have gone out and purchased a single game ticket for UCF, combined. Even in the old Acme/Zip days, it took people lining up at the gates right before gametime to get us near that 25-30K level.
Zipsrifle
No way this game sells out. TB has a name but not THAT big or a name in NE Ohio. Now if they ran a promotion (Meet Jim Tressel at Infocision Staidum) they would be yelling "OH-IO" as 20,000 sheep mindlessly flock to the stadium thinking OSU is playing an exhibition game. On another note, I don't know much about UCF, and given the past two years, I am just hoping to see some entertaining football. The last two years was the most boring football I have ever seen in my life. Starting to get excited!
johnnyzip84
BTW, Frenchy confirmed on WNIR this morning what we already knew. He mentioned the "internet rumor" regarding the "sellout", then laughed a little and dismissed it saying "it ain't a sellout".

72 Roo
Hey I just bought an extra ticket. Is it a sellout now?
skip-zip
Hey I just bought an extra ticket. Is it a sellout now? You might be number 10,001 , in what I believe is probably the most generous estimation at this point.
Captain Kangaroo
You might be number 10,001 , in what I believe is probably the most generous estimation at this point. Assuming good weather, I'm confident we'll hit 17k ("real," butts-in-seats).
skip-zip
Assuming good weather, I'm confident we'll hit 17k ("real," butts-in-seats). I was referring to my own previous post in which I said that ticket sales AT THIS POINT may not have been 10k. The final number at game time is actually within a few thousand of your number. zestycoyote
I don't want to be a downer, but does anyone remember the attendance last year? I know, Terry Bowden is a name, blah blah blah, but he isn't big enough to draw 10,000 more people to this game than last year's average. Announced attendance: 18,000. Real "in the seats" attendance: 7,500.
