Game 5 - Miami (OH) at Akron

OK -- I'll start the thread :)

I just saw this article from yesterday... Will post an excerpt and link to the entire thing:

Cleveland.com - Mid-American Conference Insider

Game plan: One thing has become crystal clear when it gets down to preparing to play the Akron Zips: You will have to score big to beat them. Witness Akron's 47-26 loss to Tennessee of the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee had to make some major halftime adjustments to post 24 points after intermission while holding Akron to a field goal.

That said, the Zips (1-3, 0-0) have scored 14, 38, 66 and 26 points this season against a slate that before the season appeared to be daunting. Now Akron settles into a MAC schedule that by comparison looks downright inviting, and upset-friendly. The Zips play Miami this week and Bowling Green next week, both at InfoCision Stadium.

Sounds like an objective observer actually GETS IT! Watch out for the Akron Zips, Mid-American Conference!

Some here will still think this paints a rosy scenario. I think it’s about as objective and logical as you can get. Of course it’s evident that the MAC is punching above its weight this year. But the results (especially the weekly improvement) of the 1st four games indicate the Zips are right there with them.

Don Treadwell certainly has his work cut out for him this week, bringing the hated “sweaters” into town as the favorite. While the odds makers still aren’t believers, I’m sure the MAC coaches are fully aware of how well the Zips are playing.

I think the article gets it right. Our performance as so far paints a better outlook for the season. Our stated goal of 2 wins takes all the pressure off the season at this point, and I think the 2012 Zips are already relishing in their role of early season spoilers. In a sense, we;ve become the "trap" game for every opponent. Its no biggie at this point if we lose to the Bobcats... If we pull off the upset, There goes thier season. :tomato:

Till then, bring on the sweaters and Muck *iami. Go Zips! Beat RED!!! :mad_flame:

The season starts 9-29! Hopefully the Zips didn't get beat up so badly Saturday that they have nothing in the tank. If they can pull one off this week it kinda sets up the rest of the season at home. If they can get 3-4 wins in the MAC and get Pohl some PT,next year looks REALLY good. But,we need to temper a little this season. This team especially on the D side is still a work in progress.

Could be reminiscent of the Frye vs. Big Ben shootout(s) - not to bring up any bad memories. I wonder if TB has learned about some of the history of this series(?) This one is on ESPN3 again but then BG and OU are not..

This is a game to watch closely. Will the Zips feel let down from the loss at Tenn? That would be understandable. I'd love to see them keep their focus and come out fighting vs. Miami. Lets get into the W column!

Not a chance these kids are down. This is a very smart group of football players. Sure they're disappointed that they didn't pull off the upset - but they understand what the odds were and they know how well they played on the road against an SEC team. They will continue to correct their mistakes - continue to improve - and continue gaining confidence.

Coach Bowden has this team believing - and it ain't gonna stop any time soon. If anything, this team believes in themselves even more now.

Watch out MAC - the Zips are no longer your doormat - they're becoming the big steel door you can't get through. (Ok - I may have been reaching on that analogy - but you get what I mean).

Good point. If ever there was a team that understands what it is to be down, this team does. Some veterans have been around long enough to have been through some very dark times and those times must have taught them a lot. Even if a player wasn't the brightest bulb on the tree, his intuition would point to the team being in a better position to be successful. Those who "get it" have to feel great about the rest of the season. I don't worry about the mental state of this team.

I spoke to a few of the players after the game and these kids are on a high, they do not feel like this was a loss and if it wasn't for the turnovers they had this one in the bag. They are focused and ready to go. We lost a couple key guys due to injuries, my question is how well will we cover for the loss. I can't get to Akron this week, but all of you who can needs to get out and get behind the team, they feeds off the energy.

ZIPS ON THE RISE.........

Here's what the enemy is saying.

Some are concerned. Some still think of the Zips as the conference patsy.

WOW! It sounds like they are scared of this game. They must have penciled this one as a win. Not anymore with this group.

I wonder if someone could have guaranteed Brian Wagner that this season was going to be more fun than since he'd been here...would he have stayed? I hate that Ianello made him not like football so much he quit again when he got to Arizona. How sad!

I think his mind was made up a long time ago. I don't believe he even gave the new staff a chance to talk to him.

Where is he, anyway?

This guy likes the Zips and the points (sorry Lee).

Besides, don't you just love the pic in the upper left hand corner (during the UT game)?

Hey,I'm all for being a home 'dog' for whatever its worth. IF Williams is healthy AND the Zips give 2 turnovers or less and the coaches can get Chisholm to run N/S instead of E/W lets get into a shootout w/Miami and see who can score last.

BUT,don't get into a 20-17 or something like it game. Miami's D is better right now. Easy folks. I know OSU ran it up on them but this year its all about scoring.

Like I said,season starts Saturday.
