NewZipsFan
Everybody who plans to be at the game, should plan to be at Roo Walk as well. The buses drop the players off on Vine Street - (between the stadium and the Field House) - and the band, fans, etc. will be there to line the street and welcome the team as they walk together to the locker room. I know its not "Vol Walk" -- but we've got to start somewhere -- and the more people who come out to support the guys 2 hours before kickoff - the better! Let's show these kids how proud we are of them, and how excited we are for them to get Win #2 on Saturday! Roo Walk/Zips Fest Info Let's Go Zips! Beat Miami! JimmytheZip
I second that. We need tradition even if it starts small. We have a small group of very passionate fans and our passion will be contagious. We need to let the team know we are behind them and believe as much as they do. Go Zips! Fear the Roo Miami! JZ84 and I walked over for the Roo Walk before the UCF game and there wasn't much of a crowd. I did not make it over at the Morgan State game, but all of us who are on campus at that time should really try to make it this week to show the team our support. I BELIEVE it does make a difference to the players..
Zip_ME87
I will try to be there. It's going to be a very long, but FUN, Saturday starting with the Roo Walk at 11:45 am and ending with the Men's Soccer match in the evening. I encourage Zips fans to take the time to show our support to our players. I know how much the Men's Soccer team appreciates the March to the Match. I'm sure it means a lot to our Football players to see the fans take the time to support them prior to the game. EDIT: I just clicked the link provided by NewZipsFan...be there at 11:45 am the team arrives between 11:45 am and noon.

I'm embarassed tp say that I have still not made it to a soccer match - but I believe Saturday will break that streak. Excited for the March to the Match! I had the opportunity to meet Coach Porter - and was really impressed. Hate that he's leaving - but very happy for him. Soccer has paved a very nice road for "real" football to follow Its the day before our 1st conference game --- lets really show the team how optimistic we are for the future of Zips football! Captain Kangaroo
"Roo Walk" sounds like a result of an injury, or simply a long day at the office for Zippy. Roos hop, right?
Jalapeño Zippy
I am looking to participate in the Roo Walk starting with Homecoming. Unfortunately, I can't come this week.

Let's not get carried away.... The "Roo Walk" refers to the PLAYERS walking through the crowd (because they are Roos... actually they are Zips... but let's not get started on that debate either!)... Please, please, please don't ask our guys to hop...
Captain Kangaroo
Please, please, please don't ask our guys to hop... Anyone remember the "Icky Shuffle?" 20 years later it's time for a re-make! I agree. No team hop. Not to push this further off topic than I already have, but why "Roo Walk?" Aren't we the "Zips?" The Roo term has its place, but Marketing folks seem to forget it isn't our name. I digress... hope it is successful. But I will be watching my son pitch, hopefully not walking anyone, and with some Zip on his fastball at noon Saturday. See everyone around 1:45pm, hopefully for with time for a Roo beer before Roo kickoff.
Big Zip
I think the Roo Walk is misplaced. I think lot 9 has a solid tailgating experience developing and consistent -- the longer term fans of the Zips are there. I won't be walking all the way to the other side of the field house and leaving my tailgate for the walk. I think you have to walk them through the people not expect the people to move to the walk. I could see the team possibly walking through campus (Zips Fest) but not through Lot 9. Personally, I LOVE the experience of greeting our Soccer players prior to their games and letting them know I'm there to support them. No walk is too far for that or for doing the same for our Football players. I'm proud of all of them and will take the time to let them know I appreciate them and their coming to the University of Akron. GO ZIPS! The team walked through campus the past 3 years and it never worked out. The buses would drop them off by the rec and they had to walk over to the fieldhouse. It usually turned into a long period of awkward silence, and about 5-10 fans watching with an occasional clap heard now and then. I always felt like that might have hurt the team's motivation more than encouraged them. Also recruits couldn't have been very impressed watching it either. Not to mention Ianello was so dull he really didn't even acknowledge the few fans that did show up. The goal is to have the team walk through the most condensed area of fans. I really don't care if it's in the middle of campus, or in a tailgating lot. Honestly I'd have cheerleaders and players throw out tshirts and other giveaways as they walk through. Everyone loves free stuff, maybe that could help draw some crowds at first.
ZachTheZip
The UCF game this year had a pretty decent amout of people (including the cheerleaders and Zippy) try to do a walk with the team, but the team snuck into the stadium about a half hour before they told people they were coming out. The players and coaches could then walk through that crowd with Terry Bowden addressing the crowd and then heading over to the end zone facility. By doing this in the field house, it could be done rain, snow, whatever.

Do we want the band playing in front of a few dozen fans? I think that once the RooWalk gets larger crowds it can migrate inside. Also sometimes with indoor events like that, some fans might not even realize it's happening.
K92
Huge difference between the walk at UCF vs. Miami. Quite a few people turned out and the band was there. This event will hopefully keep growing.

CincyZip
But to the Roo-Walk (coined and created by Terry Bowden himself) yesterday, before the walk Dalton Williams went over to students and shook their hands/gave them high fives. The guy gets it.

NewZipsFan
Nice photos Keener, thanks for posting. Yes - great pics! Roo Walk is scheduled again for this Saturday - 11:45am - same place. Let's have twice the turnout this weekend as last Saturday.. It's already building -- let's keep it going At stadiums all across the country - the fans will "travel" to wherever the team is entering. I can't imagine complaining that someone has to walk a few blocks to greet the players getting off their buses. I used to have to walk almost a mile to get from our tailgate to the pre-game walk...and then back to the tailgate..(uphill, in the snow, both ways... blah blah blah ) Roo Walk!
