KingZip
The last two seasons have been an improvement over the Hipsher and Crawford years, but what has really been accomplished.Dambrot is not your typical second year coach because he was the lead recruiter for the previous three years under Hipsher.Akron Basketball has no consistent strategy except to launch the three and hope that the other team is cold. If the team is not making the long ball the team loses. The Zips have no inside game and no go to player who can take over a game. Peterson is the only guy on the roster who has firepower and it seems like he has been in the doghouse for the last two years. The only reason I can figure is that he takes shots away from Golden Boys Travis and Joyce. There have been no recruits for the past two years that are potential All MAC performers.I think Dambrot needs to look himself in the mirror and make some changes on his staff to bring in some other coaching talent to help boost this team and get them over the hump. msopher
Don't even start with the "Fire Dambrot" approach. The guy will make a winner out of Akron. It takes some time. It took Joplin 10 yrs to get to the MAC championship game. Have some patience.
Chrisj0384
I think he is the right coach for sure. He just needs to figure out not to let Nick Dials play every minute, and then punch him in the face every time he rushes another long 3 pointer. GP1
I'm disappointed at KD today, but I'm not ready to throw him under the bus. 22 wins is a good season regardless of what happened last night. Guys who can win a lot and stick around eventually win championships....just ask Bill Cowher.

Captain Kangaroo
Dambrot is not your typical second year coach because he was the lead recruiter for the previous three years under Hipsher. How tough a job is it to recruit when you're telling kids they're going to play for Mt St Hipsher? You bring them to a game for their recruiting trip and they see Bryan Hipsher logging 22 mpg while the home crowd boos incessently. That's a tough sell...I can't hold KD accountable for that.22 wins is 22 wins, even in a watered-down MAC. However, if these new guards (recruits) are as quick as advertised, I want to see them on the court next season. No more Dials and Joyce for 34 minutes. GP1
I'm interested Dials is taking such a well deserved beating on this board today. Anger must bring with it clarity because he is just the type of whi............."suburban" player people love when things are going well and love to make excuses for when things go poorly. I'm glad none of them are getting a break today.
KingZip
Perhaps, but the fact is that these are Dambrot's players.Linhart is a role player and is not star caliber.Rybak and Milam are major projects.Dials is one diimensional.Mraz, Sowers, Sallee and Goddard are not even division one players on any of the more than 300 teams in the nation.Joyce plays too damn much and shoots 3x more than a point guard should. He does this because he wants to be a 2 guard.Travis wants to be LeBron. He is 80% hype and plays to that percentage with the stupid haircut, tights, and tatoos. Make something happen in crunch time then act like you are an all-star. Travis has the athleticicism but none of the heart to be a champion at the college level. Everytime the game gets tight he stands around and looks for LeBron to make an appearance on the court. I think he has gotten worse in this area since he was a freshman and that is the fault of the coaching staff.Wood has not played ball in two years now and is shaping up to be Akron's answer to Gerwig. Let me be the first to say that I think Wood has played his last game for the Zips.Conyers is a wild card - let us hope that he is as good as advertised.Middleton is the only returning player with heart, talent and composure.Without Peterson, Futch and Preston I think this team will really struggle next year to match the 22 wins from this year. I predict a 18-win season and no better than a 3rd seed again next year.
GP1
Wood has not played ball in two years now and is shaping up to be Akron's answer to Gerwig. Let me be the first to say that I think Wood has played his last game for the Zips. He has plenty of time to answer cell phone calls during games though. He hides next to the stands behind the bench and talks to whoever is on the other end of the line. Nice teamwork!
fear the brown roo
i agree with the quote on romeo. i can't believe he was all-mac first team. how many more 2 footers is he going to miss? seems like he misses at least 3 bunnies a game. I DON'T THINK GARY WATERS DID THAT WELL IN HIS 2ND YEAR. WITH BALL AMMUNITION LOCK AND LOAD.
Z-Pouch
Dambrot's the right guy but I think he's got a little to learn on handling his players. Stop playing favorites and play who's hot and provides better matchups for each game.I'm concerned that with Joyce at the point all of the time, we can only go so far. On most nights in the MAC, he is okay but against better competition, he is athletically overmatched and can't run the offense let alone take it to the hole every once in awhile. Better guards suffocate him to the point that gettting the ball up the court and into the offensive set is difficult - Not good. I just don't see us doing anything significant (MAC Tourney, NCAAs, NIT, Big OOC wins...) while he is here. And I'm pretty sure Dambrot's not going to make any changes there. What is Joyce's upside ? or is he playing at the top of his potential.....I'm pretty sure quickness will not sprout over the summer. Put it this way, imagine Akron with Toledo's point guard driving the hole dishing out or down low in the post  Hmmmm...Middleton..... Dambrot had a horrible night last night - He stuck with his guys and his guys (Joyce and Dials) really let the egg hit him right in the face. KD - How does Middleton get the least of the guard minutes when he was the most productive ? and matches up best with Toledo's quickness.- Peterson in the post, scores at will - Disappears in the final 10 minutes ?- Romeo in the post, scores at will - I think he took one shot in the second half after going 4-5 in the first half. WHY didn't he get the ball more ? Other then the two missed throws, he played an awesome game working underneath for the ball -- I imagine after the game he was asking "what ball"...should've easily been a 20pt night.- After a timeout, down two, the chosen one (Joyce) doesn't fight for an inbounds pass and Toledo makes the play of the game. AFTER A TIMEOUT !!!!!!! Games on the line, how can you not be in position ? How can your head not be in the game. For all of his big time StV games, Joyce looked scared and panicked in the crunch. Things are a lot different out there without LBJ.- Dials for another ill advised three and sees no pine. Dials will get a lot better and I swear we will love the guy next year but last night, he needed some pine time.- Seperate note - White Uniforms ? Get rid of them - Make the undefeated gold unis permanent. It was a great season even with a lot of adversity and KD's got the program going in the right direction. But what an awful way to end. I knew we were in trouble at the start when the guy had the flag backwards on the video screen - Dude in front of him with the double shocker saved him

Hilltopper
OK everyone, TAKE A DEEP BREATH, its only a game played by teenagers. The sun will rise tomorrow and life will go onward. It was a fun season. Anybody who thinks this team underachieved this season is nuts. We lost three key players and still made it to the semis. Enjoy what you have and quit trashing the very people who made it happen.

Balki Bartokomous
In two years, Nate Linhart is going to be a player that other teams look at and wonder why they don't have anyone of his caliber. He is a freshman. Have you noticed how every time he gets the ball at the three point line he DOESN'T shoot, instead he drives to the hoop for layups and get the other teams big men in foul trouble. He might be the only player on Akron who trys to get a damn rebound. He always seems to be involved when there is a loose ball. He will be a star.Next year's line up should be Joyce at point, Middleton at SG, Linehart at SF, Romeo at PF and Wood at C. That is if the self proclaimed "Wolverine" of college basketball can actually use his healing powers and not spend another season racking up a massive phone bill. He may only be 6'6" but he has the build and the drive to shut down MAC big men. With a healthy Wood and an more experienced Linhart, Akron should be a rebounding machine. Middleton will lead the team in scoring if he plays half decent minutes. Hopefully Romeo spends this off season working on some post moves and on BOXING OUT. All and all next years team will be better.Don't start on the fire Dambrot crap. If he wouldn't have screwed up when he was coaching at C. Michigan, He would already be coaching at a bigger school than Akron. We are lucky to have him. Who would you rather have as a coach, Dru Joyce II? Zipster
Last week KD was the greatest coach in the world when we beat Can't. Now you all want him fired?????? Valpo Zip
No body is saying that KD should be fired !People are saying that he did mistakes and yes he did !All we are asking is explanations and we want to make sure that these mistakes won't happen again... curly71
KD is right for us. However, like all of us, we can always learn. KD needs to learn from last nights game, "Play who's hot and pine who's knot" !!!!!!! Dials was not close to having it all evening, and Cederic is sitting? No way !!!!!!!!!!! We play with a 8 man rotation all first half (with Peterson), then we don't seem him later while he sits with CM? The favoritism has to stop. I agree with GP1 that we did not need defense the final 3-4 minutes, but offense. Peterson already had 13 points. KD has to put his bull head attitude away and play who can help the team when needed. Before the game, Coach Kraley talked about how we were going to go inside because Toledo did not have any size on us. The first half, we went inside and all was well. The second half, we all of a sudden had to have 3 point hero's throwing bricks and never went back inside at all. We went compeltely from the game plan. I just hope KD takes this game and does some soul searching that will make him a little better than he already is. As I said, he is our guy and "Play who's hot and pine who's knot" !!!!!!!!!!! If you were happy with the coaching yesterday then i feel bad for you.I agree completely -- NO ONE wants KD to go anywhere. Some here have been thru the Crawford and Hipsher years , that was awful.I guess if I look at the positive side of KD sticking with his guys, it is a lot better then the short leash and quick hook Hipsher had with everyone. Those guys were always looking over their shoulder and afraid to play the game.I don't think there is a person other then King Zip (Mrs. Hipsher, where have you been ?) who wants to talk about KD going anywhere or not being the right coach. I'm just confused by some decisions yesterday as are others. I'm interested in insight and comments - especially Peterson. I thought all season that we were just saving him for the end of the season due to his injuries/back.

And I certainly don't agree that he is waiting for LeBron to make an appearance. He is, however in need of some help down low. The offense looked so smooth with the ball going down low, kicking it out, moving it around--with Peterson in the game. When he went out, Toledo sent an extra guy to help on Travis and we had horrible flow and movement. 99% of the time Travis plays within himself and is a great team player. Preston gets my vote for team MVP.....Romeo is our Most Important Player.
