LZIp
As has been discussed before, scheduling a good lower level team early in the season has benefits over scheduling a weak D1 team, as it does not count against the Zips' RPI. On the other hand, if the Zips had scheduled a good D1 team, they would have been screwed with Tree and Harney out and Rico playing at reduced capacity with a bum ankle. So JCU worked out just fine as a tuneup for the Oklahoma State game, where the loss of Tree and Harney along with Rico's bum ankle put the Zips at a significant disadvantage. scheduling the likes of Malone and Tiffin didnt seem to prepare us well for Coastal Carolina. I'll withhold judgement on how well John Carroll prepared us after we play OK St.
TJX
Akorn does not need "warm-up" games. I would much rather Akron be the "warm-up" oppopent for the likes of a Big 12 or ACC team. Wouldn't you? I want to see how Zeke measures up to Nerlens Noel from Kentucky. I thought this seasons theme was THINK BIGGER?

Plenty of difficulty in November and December. More difficult than the recent past.
MDZip
Not to mention, we just lost to a weak D1 team last week, did we really want to start 0-2? How do we know they're weak? They had a good year last year and The Big South has sent some pretty good teams to the NCAA tournament before. Lets wait a bit before we decide how good or bad they are (and consequently how good or bad that loss was).

They are getting blown out by the powerhouse known as "Ole Miss"
Dave in Green
While it's true that CCU got whipped by Ole Miss, 90-72, that's not quite the whole story. CCU was on the road and actually led Ole Miss at halftime, 39-36, in Oxford. Ole Miss is projected as one of the better teams in the SEC, which is ranked as the fourth strongest conference in the country this season. The Rebels are currently projected as an NCAA tournament team. Unlike the Zips, the Rebels were playing at full strength against CCU's less deep lineup, and wore them down in the second half with 10 players playing double-digit minutes. The Zips might have been expected to do something similar on CCU's homecourt had Tree and Harney been able to play and Rico's ankle not been injured. Unfortunately the "powers that be" do not look to see if a team was at full strength during a loss during Selection Sunday
zippy5
Unfortunately the "powers that be" do not look to see if a team was at full strength during a loss during Selection Sunday They take injuries into account. Unfortunately, I feel that's mostly big name injuries, as they're probably too lazy to research who/how good Tree and Harney are.
Zipgrad01
It was one game......that does not end a chance to get an at large bid. A run in the tournament tomorrow erases a lot.

That is true. Knocking off NC State would do wonders for us. However, I do not have as high hopes of that happening with the way the team performed at CCU. Hopefully they have improved considerably since.

Chances of beating OK State are slim without Tree and Harney
