Class of 82 Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 The numbers may change, but this poll and its thread almost made me spit my coffee I laughed so hard. http://marshall.rivals.com/forum.asp?fid=2236 Hope y'all enjoy this as much as I did. Quote

As of now, the MAC is second in that poll. If they are that desperate to get out of C-USA, I promise you that the MAC will never take them back and they will be stuck there. They can thank themseleves for their own mess. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I'd take Marshall back in a heartbeat. Great fans. Travel well. Exciting games. Logistically perfect. Good basketball. Does anyone remember the MAC took NIU back after they departed in the 80's? Nobody died. It actually worked out well. Quote

I'd definitely bring them back, but with one significant caveat: The MAC Football Championship stays at Ford Field (or at least a neutral field)! Don't forget, we host the Blundering Terd in 2014 and visit Huntington in 2016. This could help with MAC scheduling ps. Not to mention (but I will), we beat them 2 out of the last 3 times we played them :gun: :gun: Quote
LZIp Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Im not aware of the circumstances, but the MAC took Temple back before, so I dont see why they wouldnt take Marshall (or even Cinci) back. I have a big feeling the Big East will exist no more and Cinci will be an odd man out in all of the realignment. Quote

I'm not either, because Temple was only in the MAC ONCE (and as a football only member at that). Perhaps you're thinking of the Big East taking back Temple? Quote
Hilltopper Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 I would welcome the idea of Marshall coming back to the MAC. They are a good fit all the way around. Quote

I think having Marshall in the MAC was great, and for precisely the reasons you provide. I'd add, too, that Miami and (especially) Ohio U were and still are their natural rivals. Them moving to that fiasco known as C-USA was a real negative for the MAC, but it hasn't been very good for Marshall, either. (I wish a few Akron fans would consider Marshall's experience as an object lesson of grass not always being greener elsewhere.) I just found it funny that a forum poll... unscientific as it is... would show a plurality in favor of rejoining a conference that the vast majority couldn't wait to get out of just a few short years ago. P.S. Coming from behind to beat Marshall in 2004 was one of the best games I never saw at the Rubber Bowl. Under-dressed and freezing our kiesters off, we left midway through the third quarter and watched the stunning last few minutes on ESPN at the bar. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 There's no team that's as fun for the entire MAC to hate as Marshall. If we brought them back, it would give the rest of the MAC fan bases a boost. However, they bring nothing in football, an OK basketball team but nothing to write home about, and zero media market. Captain Kangaroo Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 However, they bring nothing in football... Says the guy whose team has 3 wins in three years. Quote
akzipper Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Can we add Marshall and dump Can't? Quote
GP1 Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Going to CUSA was a horrible move for Marshall and I said it on this board years ago. Marshall had everything it could want in the MAC. It was a big fish in a small pond that went bowling almost every year. Their fans had something to cheer about and going to Marshall games was a big deal for them. Now they are just another sad sack CUSA. Another AD strikes again. Quote
Zips Win! Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Aren't we leaving for the Big East? Quote
