Zipmeister Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 First ever post from the Zipmeister...nationalchamps.net shows Akron playing at Wisconsin on 8/30/08. Hadn't heard of this before, but maybe I'm just slow. Also have some thoughts about filling gaps in future schedules with home games. Realize that return trips will be required for most if not all of these suggestions but according to above mentioned web site each of these teams appear to have room on their schedules for an away date for the years mentioned and I think most would be respectable games.2007 Rice2009 Colorado State2010 Fl. Atlantic or Hawaii (wouldn't mind a return trip or two to the later)2011 Boise State or Hawaiiwhat do you think? Quote
RACER Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 does anyone know who the 4th game this year is? we need a home game, and would not be to upset if was a 1-aa team. given the cirumstances with three road games we need a easy game at home. Quote
zip37 Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 There are easy 1aa teams & tough !aa teams, being 1aa doesn't necessarly mean an easy win-- I'm not too sure how we would do against the PURPLE RAIDERS from Alliance. Quote

First off, Mount Union is D3, not 1-AA. Any D3 school would get absolutely ass raped by any D1, 1-AA, or D2 school. If Akron played Mount Union, first of all, it would be unsafe for the Mount Union players because it's an entirely different kind of player and skill level. Secondly, it'd be 56-0 or worse by halftime. 1-AA schools can sometimes compete with a 1-A school. But Mount Union would not come close to Ashland, much less Akron. Quote

Hahaha You beat me to it...man people who sat the bench at my high school in massillon START for Mount Union. All county players and honorable mention state players go to D1...you gotta be kidding. I'd prefer to do it wothout that horrible blue turf, however. Also, hell yes, let's go to Hawaii. I think I could sell it to my wife, sure, a vacation and a Zips game all in one! Quote
zipsbandman Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Hawaii wouldn't schedule us because LO backed out of a game with them at the last minute because he was scared to play them. Quote

Zipmeister Posted March 16, 2006 Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 OK, who is LO?Anyhow....I checked Wisc. web site and they have the Akron game listed on their schedule. Problem is that Wisc would be Akrons's 13th game for 2008! Can't find Syr., Cinn, Army, or Kentucky's 2008 schedules on their websites to determine who is now NOT on the zips schedule. Any info? Wow...this tone from the guy admonished me for being too harsh on someone claiming "Can't has a better recruiting class than Akron (football) and the 2005 MAC championship won't help Akron in recruiting?" Yeah, I'm no Vince Lombardi, but anyone who knows anything about football realizes that the entire Mount Union football team would be in Alliance Community Hospital by the end of the 1st quarter! NWLB Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 What is with the Florida schools climbing into 1A? I'm going to have to search to find out how many more are making the jump to D1 or 1A. Has anybody seen a finalized or speculative version of the Zip's MAC sched. for next year? Quote
fear the brown roo Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 other than not playing NIU and playing toledo, i'm not sure who else we play in the west or when Quote
zipboy Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 French mentioned WMU on one of the broadcasts. Also since we played NIU and Ball State the last 2 years, I don't think that we play them again. Quote

Mount Union probably couldn't get more than two first downs. I doubt they could get the ball across the 50. Akron would score every time they have the ball. This person has never watched a DIII game. The talent is nothing compared to D-1. There is a reason those guys are there and not here. Quote
GP1 Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 One other thing. No D1AA teams should be scheduled. The MAC should expand the conference schedule to nine games. Watching Akron play 1-AA schools is a waste of my time and money. Quote
RACER Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 i do agree gp. i don't want to see akron play 1 aa teams. the more mac games would make the confernece schedules more balanced. the only point i was making that we only have a few months before the season starts. it might not be that easy to get a d-1 team to come to akron becuase most teams have the schedule already filled thi year.i would rather play 1 aa team at home then go on the road for all four non conference games.it's easy to say don't play a 1aa team, but unless we want to play on the road. we may not have a choice.
