Keep Tressel employed at UA for the next few years until his coaching suspension is lifted. Then hire him as the head coach. By then two things could happen 1) we suffer through more 1-win seasons and Bowden gets replaced 2) Less likely scenario, we improve as a program and Bowden moves on to a better gig. Either way I don't think Terry will be around for more than 4 years. Which I believe is the duration of Tressel's suspension? Winning coaches move on, losing coaches get let go.

You have to be the most damn pessimistic person in the world.

Bingo.

I don't get how anyone who spends time around campus could be upset about what Tressel has done. Sure the new arena isn't a reality yet, but my God, it's barely been a year since he took the job. He's been a great face for the U, and he's certainly done some positive things for it.

Regarding the arena however...We make a sweet 16 run, coupled with this winning streak, and we have a very good chance of opening some eyes and wallets. Just WIN WIN WIN!

Mr. Tressel is performing well in his current UA assignments, and that it would not be surprising to see him rise in the executive ranks.

I'll bite....What is he doing well?

You aren't seriously trying to compare DeKalb to Athens? A city 60 miles from Chicago sitting right on a major interstate vs a hick town in the middle of nowhere?

(facepalm) You completely missed my point.

How much money has he brought in?

Please go back and read my post a little more carefully. It states exactly what I'm comfortable saying and explains exactly why. It would be inappropriate for me to expand on what I've already said.

PLUS ?! And I wish the Mods would make that offensive quote at the bottom of his posts disapear.

You can do that yourself. Just go to My Controls, Board Settings and change "Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?" to No. Just that easy.

I'm fine with that. The Mayflower, if it can be rehabbed into a nice downtown apartment building focused on UA students and younger professionals, would be the best thing to happen to downtown since they moved the bus station away.

Agreed. Surprised that a low-income residence building was located downtown.

Doesn't it seem like now would be the prime time to be able to attract funding for a new arena?

Absolutely, this is the PERFECT time to get it started. I can't think of any better time to show that we need more capacity, and a modern facility than right now.

Those against the new arena, are you proud of the nation having it's only impression of the U by what they see inside the JAR?

If you look at what downtown Akron looked like after the industry left and before CP was built, it would make sense. There was once at least two porno theaters downtown, two other glamorous hotels in that area were converted to low income housing (Hotel Howe and Hotel Anthony Wayne). The rest was empty storefronts and businesses that catered to the low income.

You wouldn't recognize the place.

I picture a suitable arena built on campus and butting the rest of the city, and rejuvenating East Exchange in the same way Canal Park did downtown.
