akronzips71 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 Worst performance ever in NCAA hoops in the shot clock era. Our RPI will probably plummet! Four points is tied with the lowest half ever in college basketball. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 Our RPI will probably plummet! What makes you say that? Anyway, NIU is terrible at basketball, but EMU is just plain unwatchable. Every game they play is like this. It's like they took what Charlie Coles did, and turned it up to unneccessary levels. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 20-4 EMU now...5 minutes into the second half! HAHA Quote
GoZips88 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 ESPN MAC scoreboard doesn't even offer a link to a box score for the game! Quote
Dave in Green Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 Wow. This may go down as the worst game ever. Not only did NIU set records in that game, so did EMU -- 8-61 from the field including 1-33 treys. Check out all the new records in the ESPN Huskies News Feed here. EDIT: They changed it. They originally showed EMU with the bad shooting and just changed it to NIU. Quote
UAZips Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 The NIU board has them going 1-30 in the first half from the field. Quote
zippyfan34 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 I'll take 13% shooting for only 7 turnovers any day of the week. Way to protect the ball from the opponent . . . and going throught the hoop! Quote
Zip Watcher Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 This kind of game is a big problem for any hopes of a MAC team getting an at large. Can't have headlines like this .. worse if it's twice in one season. Quote
akronzips71 Posted January 26, 2013 Author Report Posted January 26, 2013 Actually, we dropped to 71/72 since the last win. That is the big problem, the SOS is too weak and even winning does not help. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 LOL! 1-33 on treys?? Well, you know, a shooter can't stop shooting, just because he misses a couple shots! Quote
GP1 Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 This game set college basketball back 50 years. Quote
Quickzips Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 Something has to be done about the EMU situation, and I really don't know what. They are better than they were a few years ago in terms of record, but the brand of basketball they are playing is hurting the overall image of the MAC. There were two great, exciting games in the conference tonight (UB@Akron and OU@Can't). Nobody will even notice. The only thing that will get any press is NIU scoring 4 points in a half. If the MAC ever wants to be respected as a conference we can't continue to have these teams that can only win if the game is in the 40s. Nobody wants to watch that. We just finally got rid of Charlie Coles, but quite frankly, Rob Murphy may be even worse in terms of playing entertaining basketball. Quote

Three wins in three years. Keeping it in perspective, the four point half was less embarrassing. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 I think the 888 attendance figure is the most embarrassing part. I mean, seriously?! 888 people in a beautiful arena like that? Terrible. Quote
GP1 Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 I think the 888 attendance figure is the most embarrassing part. I mean, seriously?! 888 people in a beautiful arena like that? Terrible. Further evidence that the arena has nothing to do with the quality of basketball. There are lots of pretty things to go look at. In fact, there are lots of pretty things to go look at that would be prettier than an arena. I'd rather watch good basketball in a poor arena than poor basketball in a good arena. BTW, this game got EMU and NIU national "exposure" because of that abortion yesterday. I guess they win in the long run if we are to believe the prevailing wisdom that exposure is always a good thing. Quote
Dave in Green Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 In his latest blog, Ken Pomeroy uses the EMU-NIU debacle as a starting point for a statistical analysis of how much defense can affect 3-point shooting percentage. While he generally believes that defenses have little control over opponents’ 3-point percentage, he does acknowledge that Syracuse's Jim Boeheim and his former assistant, EMU's Rob Murphy, run defenses that may somewhat affect 3-point percentage. Why would KD switch to the 1-3-1 if it wouldn't affect the opponent's 3-point percentage? Quote
Hilltopper Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Why would KD switch to the 1-3-1 if it wouldn't affect the opponent's 3-point percentage? I thought he said he switched to the 1-3-1 to stop the dribble penetration that was leading to easy baskets for the Bulls. Then he said they run a hybrid version of that defense that is effective against the 3-pointer. I've always wondered why we don't use more Zone with Zeke patrolling the middle. Quote
