Sounds to me like the U has priced the Big Dialer out of range for a LOT of potential events that could be held there. “We’ve had a lot of groups reach out to us,” he said. “We’re looking to having some high school football in there, and there will be some semi-pro teams that will play there, too. There are going to be some concerts and other types of sporting events, so we’re confident that it will be a venue with a lot of activity.”

“We’re hoping for four or five months of renovation, and we’re probably going to extend that to seven or eight months, with some of the recent changes we made to the design,” said Mason.

Among the renovations to the stadium: a new scoreboard, new seats and — one can expect — a new sign proclaiming the stadium’s corporate sponsor. (The Rubbermaid Bowl? The GOJO Bowl? The Swensons Galley Bowl?)

Best of luck to them. If they (re)build it, I will come.

You know, if this renovation does happen, could Akron be in the running for OHSAA semi-finals and finals?

They could hold the Division I, III, and V at the Dialer, and the II, IV, and VI at the renovated Rubber Bowl. Only five miles apart, they're closer than Paul Brown and Fawcett.

Dont think so. Canton or Columbus. I do not understand why the U doesnt submit a bid to host playoff games, however. We have no problem hosting multiple city games every week...

I think that they did already. Was passed over in favor of Massillion.

So the OHSAA would rather have games played at Green (they host) instead of the Info?

Like I said in my first post, maybe it was the co$t? Why is the as-of-yet unrenovated RB getting all this interest?

Seating capacity, it will look more attractive for them. They are probably thinking "if it is not a Massillion-McKinley playoff game, do we want empty seats at the Info and if that is the case, the Rubber Bowl might be a better option."

If it is all about the $$$, I wonder how much is it to rent out the info? Even better question, is the university trying to keep all profits from concessions if they hold playoff games there.

Three words.

Suburbanite article on the new owner's and their plans.

The Akron Fire has already picked out its head football coach. It will be Carl Crennel, nephew of former Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel. Carl played in the NFL for a few years before trying his hand at coaching like his uncle. The football operation president will be Anthony Griggs, someone who coached under Bill Parcells. Along with them will be a host of former NFL coaches and players to help advise them along the way.

So Bill and Sean "carry themselves with quiet confidence," and a dangerous lack of local knowledge.

"The duo has many other upgrades in mind. The oddly placed lights that restricted so many views over the years will be removed."

No problem if all your events are scheduled during daylight. Otherwise, good luck on that.

Lack of local knowledge? Did you read the article?

Gladly, but first I need to hear L's answer.

No idea. Never watched a game in the Rubber Bowl.

Just think it is a safe bet that a guy who grew up in the town of the Rubber Bowl, and a guy who has lived in North Canton the past 10+ years would have plenty of local knowledge.
