ZachTheZip
Yes. Isaiah Johnson also had an offer from Xavier. We are at the top of the MAC in terms of recruiting. BJ Gladden had offers from ECU, VCU, Xavier, Charlotte, Wake Forest, and Wyoming among others.
Dr Z
If we could land ONE point guard who is talented enough to control tempo, distribute and provide a scoring threat (like Cooper at OU, Huffman at K.E.N.T., Boykins at EMU, etc) the Zips could very well take that "next step".We (in my previous reply) both forgot this guy. Absolutely loved him.
VAZip
Not a perfect ending for Akron..but who had it worse? The Zips or everyone we claim to want to be like? VCU, Butler, Gonzaga go down a game later. VCU went down bad and Gonzaga would have lost to anyone else in their 16-1 seed game. Butler takes something good away in that they weren't beaten badly. The point is that the only thing that these three have that the Zips don't is respect from the public for a run that happened in the past. So all we are really saying is that we want a little R E S P E C T!
LZIp
Florida Gulf Coast has only been eligible for the NCAA tourney for 2 years now, and they are the first 15 seed in the sweet 16. Currently trending worldwide on twitter and their website has crashed, even with updating the servers today. Just throwing it out there... Currently trending worldwide on twitter and their website has crashed, even with updating the servers today. Just throwing it out there... All without a 10,000 seat arena and separate practice facility. Shocking. They do have a lake on campus with a beach around it and some dorms around that. What's more important in drawing a player to your school? 1. Hot girls laying around a lake in bikinis year around on a lake in the middle of campus? or.. 2. A new arena and practice facility. Here is an idea as long as we are throwing things out there. Take off their uniform and put on one of a known school like say Pittsburgh or Wisconsin or Texas. Would anyone be surprised that talent made the Sweet 16? Of course not. Their success comes from the things that matter: talent and coaching. That 3rd option is winning when it matters.

I tried to get on simply to see what conference they are affiliated with.
odhgibo
Some of this discussion reminds me of a complaint about Tressel: he built teams to win the Big 10, which then couldn't match up against SEC teams. There's more than one type of team that can win the MAC, but not all of those styles will have similar success rates against teams from other leagues. akzipper
Success in the tournament is based on who you draw. Like most have said VCU was probably the worst team to face. I felt that any top mid-major would be tough (VCU, Butler, St Louis, etc) because they are used to playing teams like Akron all year, while big schools are more prone to being upset. I felt that this year's team was the best one we've ever sent to the tournament. I'd say they would have had a good chance to beat the Gonzaga or ND teams faced in the past. OhioU has been very lucky with who they drew. Georgetown, USF, and Michigan are all beatable teams. If we make the tournament enough, eventually we will get favorable matchups that allow us to advance. Let's just hope the "every other year" trend doesn't continue. We need to consistently make the postseason and consistently get better recruits.

The whole university is founded on the concept of Fun & Sun.
ZippyRulz
It's the same reason UCF, USF, FAU, FIU, etc. make it to the Sweet 16 year in and year out

GP1
If you don't think those schools have a recruiting advantage due to their location, I don't know what to tell you. They do have some recruiting advantages. However, there are many good high school basketball players in the north. Enough that climate, etc. shouldn't impact a college program.
