legendofzippy Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Dambrot's style of having a deep rotation means that even though last year's starter has departed, this year's starter has plenty of game experience. Not much fall off because of the change in player. Most programs tend toward a six or seven man rotation while the Zips tend toward a nine or ten man rotation. This makes for more experienced players on the floor and fresher bodies in the game. This likely to continue. A tidbit: this year's incoming class is looking stellar. First, your description of Dambrot's style is great. I think that's what makes this team so hard to beat in the MAC. How many programs can go 10 deep? Anyone? Even with a very young team, it "feels" like a veteran squad. As far as this year's incoming class - can you elaborate? Anyone in particular standing out? Quote
GoZips Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 As far as this year's incoming class - can you elaborate? Anyone in particular standing out? Thus far, all four young men are looking great. A lot of talent plus they are all athletes. It seemed all to often in the past that we recruited either an athlete or a baller. These kids, all four are both athlete and player. So far they are absorbing what they are being taught. Fun to watch them get their first taste of real team defense. High schools do not really teach team defense. They are learning to think and function like a team. Defensive assignments are far more intense and complicated (but, still simple) than what they saw in high school. They all handle the ball decently and all can shoot. They like being able to go to the rim which is encouraged at Akron. A competition will develop over time for the two available spots in the rotation. Deji has no intention of yielding his place. All four freshmen are impressing favorably. Be patient. Quote
zippyfan34 Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Big Dog is coming. Purdue coming to the JAR? Quote
Dr Z Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Big Dog is coming. I heard he has lost weight. Quote

akzipper Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Big Dog Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't call that a MONSTER jam. Compared to dunks we've seen by Zeke, Tree, Chauncey, Diggs, Harney... Quote
Hilltopper Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I doubt there are too many players who are going to be looking to draw a charge against Big Dog. Quote
ksu sucks Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 December 28th, a Saturday. So Saturday, December 28th in Columbia? I'm there. Quote
Dave in Green Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 There are two ways to look at "monster jam" -- the jam is a monster or the player jamming is a monster. Quote

Z.I.P. Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 So if I understand this correctly: Home games Coastal Carolina Oral Roberts Middle Tennessee Cleveland State Coppin State Road games St. Marys South Carolina Diamond Head Classic Iowa State Boise State, St. Marys, South Carolina, George Mason, Oregon State, Hawaii That is a reasonable enough start to a schedule. You would always like to see another quality home opponent, but I fully understand the difficulty getting quality opponents to come to the JAR. So let me get this straight...Akron is playing two games vs teams that they could end up playing twice in the same season? But they left an offer on the table to play @Hawaii while already on the road. Maybe hotels are cheaper in Moraga and Columbia. Well, actually, I know they are. p.s.: I want to know if Underdog is coming? Quote

As previously reported, both South Carolina and Saint Mary's will be in the other bracket. As for underdog ... no one cares; but remember this: Big Dog is coming. Quote
ZippyforPresident Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 A little trip down south this winter doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. Coming back to Akron with a W doesn't sound too tough either... Especially since South Carolina went 14-18 last season. Yet another SEC school poised to bite the dust against "little Akron." Quote

ZachTheZip Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Big Dog is coming. Butler? Georgia? James Madison (who I would love to see join the MAC)? This is still the thread about our non-conference schedule, yes? Quote
Z.I.P. Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 Big Dog is coming. I read somewhere that he arrived in Boston today. Hmmmph. Quote
GP1 Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 I want to know if Underdog is coming? Does Simon Bar Sinister play for them? Quote
ZachTheZip Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Looks like we drew Oregon State in the first round of the tournament. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Looks like we drew Oregon State in the first round of the tournament. According to... I don't know, but there are strong rumors that certain residents of 1600 Penn Ave. could make their way to this event. If coach Robinson lasts long enough... Quote
Z.I.P. Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Here is the complete Diamond Head Classic bracket, in .pdf It looks like Iowa State jumped the gun, so ESPN Regional (owner of the event) just put it out for all. Quote
