After the Celtics hired Brad Stevens, is was only a matter of time before the next domino fell.

Sorry that I want to post news about Akron Zips basketball. If it was Dambrot, Embick, or Bowden, there would be a bunch of posts about it. That's all I'm going to say...

I am in complete agreement with your umbrage. How dare he make a topical joke which tangentially pertains to your post.

If some if you think Bowden had it bad coming in the door, it was nothing compared to what Kest had coming in the door. She took over what was basically a DIII program and now they are a contender for the MAC. Lots of decisions were made that seemed harsh, but in the long run they are paying off.

Well said. Kudos to Coach Kest.

I have great respect for what Coach Kest has accomplished at UA and am glad to see her contract extended. Anyone who wants the best for UA has to be pleased to have such a quality women's basketball coach running the program. The relative small number of comments here generally reflects the relative popularity of women's versus men's sports, same as it's reflected in the number of fans who show up at women's versus men's games. It's just the way fans in general look at sports.

OR, you could say it reflects the attention which the media pay to any sport or social phenomenon. It was in a University of Akron sociology class where I first learned of the process of the self fulfilling prophecy. As for myself, as I've stated here on multiple occasions, the women's game (at this time at least, even with the intervention of players like Britney Griner) is a more entertaining, competitive and team-oriented game than what is provided by men's basketball. Nonetheless, I will be watching coach Dambrot's squad every chance I get. But when I have my own choice, I will gladly pay less than half as much for a ticket to a women's game that is IMHO a better entertainment value.

Off the topic of Coach Kest, but on the subject of MAC women's hoops, I was watching the USA women's basketball team in the World University Games (watched just the first half of the game Saturday vs Australia) and noticed a player from Central Michigan receiving significant minutes for the US -- and looking very impressive in her time -- Crystal Bradford of the Lady Chipps was a nice slashing 2-guard or wing who did a great job of taking the defensive pressure off the USA stars like Oddysey Simms of Baylor. I had never heard of her, but as I recall it was her team that beat us in the MAC title game.

Congratulations to Coach Kest - hope she has continued success and gets a MAC championship or two. Out of curiosity, what is her ballpark compensation? I saw that the men's program was 3rd in money spent behind OU and Western Michigan if I recall correctly. I'll try to find those stats and post them.

She was the primary reason the Chipps and not the Zips went to the NCAA tournament. Very talented player, and she and just about her whole crew is back this year.
