lance99
Alright, I said in another thread that the ULL game was a win. Now that did not happen, the next three games MUST be a win to be in the MAC race. BG is winnable if some things happen. -Passing down field -strong defense up front -Do not have an slow start Is it doable? Yes it is, but will it happen? That remains to be seen. lance99
Akron(IMO), is the most dangerous team in the MAC this year. So can they take advantage?

Balsy
Agreed. On my drive back I calmed myself down from another disappointing loss by reminding myself that "Only Conference play really matters." Which is the truth. But we absolutely have to start winning these perfectly winnable games, and soon...or I fear for the fan base. It was a fun atmostphere at Infocision tonight, but if we keep losing absolutely no one will be there.
Dr Z
For you stat guys, I'm looking for two stats, tackles and snaps. How many tackles does CJ have? How many snaps has MTB have? This is easy info to find in the NFL, but seems to escape me in college football. Can someone help? BG QB is 23rd in the nation in passing yards. Pohl is 34th. The best site I know for football statistics is NCAA.com, they have a lot of that kind of data. You will need to select sport and divsion on the left side of the page. Did not see Mizell and I know they don't have it to the depth of each players snaps but it might help some. Freeman, March and Holmes are listed among the tackling leaders, Justin March is tied for 5th in interceptions per game.

I wonder how many people focus on passing yards when evaluating QBs. Both BGs MJ in 117th place and JP in 167th place are very far behind the guy in 33rd place based on QB ratings. Dr Z
I wonder how many people focus on passing yards when evaluating QBs.I would guess nobody if you were evaluating QBs. But if you were evaluating a game, and wanted to know if there was going to be some passing in the game, it might be a good indication. Dave in Green
@Dr Z, as far as I can tell from researching your question, snaps is not a stat that the NCAA requires in the official scoring in the same way as they, for example, require subbing in and subbing out be documented in the play-by-play of basketball official scoring. Each team may keep its own record for internal use. But I don't believe it's generally made public. If football play-by-play showed all the subbing in and out the same way basketball does, it would be relatively easy to track the number of snaps each player was in for. Dr Z
Here is an NFL example of what I'm looking for. I'm specifically interested in the Zips players snapcounts. Bowling Green favored by 15 according to OddsSharks.
LZIp
Indiana smacked BG. We are very similar on offense to the Hoosiers in that we pass a lot. Our run D is also stout. Not having to deal with a dual-threat QB is a bonus. Should be another nail-biter for the Zips, and most certainly should beat the spread. Dave in Green
Yep, that's exactly what I was searching for. Couldn't find a hint of any NCAA football stat like the NFL one. I'm usually pretty good at internet searches, but maybe someone else can do better on this one.

We have more talent that last year, but I'm not convinced we're caught up to anyone. Let's not forget what a disaster this team was two years ago. legendofzippy
I think you should look at the roster turnover now compared to two years ago. We can compete in every game. We have more talent, I'm certainly not saying that, but I don't think it's a simple matter of "learning how to win". Sometimes teams are down, sometimes up, I get that. But over the course of the season, talent is going to show in your record. Two years ago we were a bad division II team. So yes we've upgraded a lot, but time will tell just how much. The MAC seems a little down this year, so maybe things will work out. We have a brutal MAC schedule though.
akzipper
Like I've said before, this team is capable of beating any team on the schedule. Will they, who knows... Honestly this team is a few plays away from being 3-1 right now. If the offense can start to click we will be okay. Need to learn how to win, it's that simple. Lee Adams
And they will start beating those teams you say they were capable of winning, when? I am concerned that when all the one year guys who are playing and leave this year, that you still have a bunch of inexperienced players at key positions. IF this program is going to get over the hump, its still at least 2 seasons away. Most people have no interest at this point. And, will not show up for games unless this program wins early in the season. They had a chance Saturday to follow-up on the UM game,but....again.... ksu sucks
Let's be honest, a win over ULL would have hardly excited Joe Akron. It's going to take a bowl season before we see anything near 20,000 in the stands again.

It's going to take a bowl season before we see anything near 20,000 in the stands again. Yes, let's be honest. Any win would have excited Joe Akron, one week after catching his attention in Ann Arbor. Also, our attendance vs JMU was 19,653, and vs ULL it was 18,809. You don't think that proving that we can win a game or two, even against MAC teams, won't bump things up past 20,000?
Dave in Green
... Also, our attendance vs JMU was 19,653, and vs ULL it was 18,809. ... Uh oh. I sense that this statement will start another attendance discussion. To be clear, those are paid attendance numbers (including season ticket holders), not butts in seats. Just getting most season ticket holders to show up for a game would be a huge breakthrough.
