fknbuflobo
As usual, throw out the respective W/L records when these two programs face each other. This match-up is more than just bragging rights, it is about recruiting the state of Ohio.
TennZip
Ohio State clearly used to be the 2nd best team in the state. Based on this year's results, I don't think the Bucks can say that. 0-0 tie with Wright State 0-0 tie with Bowling Green 3-1 beatdown by Dayton. Xavier would have to be favored against the OSU. that being said, the Zips need to come out and take care of business
Dr Z
Borrow a Cowlumbus fans ugly red shirt and get a nice Akron shirt. ...or grab one from the trash.
LZIp
I like the promotion. They did it a few years ago as well. Nothing pisses me off like seeing people wear OSU gear to Akron sporting events.
ZachTheZip
Nothing pisses me off like seeing people wear OSU gear to Akron sporting events. The weird thing is that they usually only wear them to sporting events. Go to campus on a regular school day and you will see tons of Akron gear and hardly a single piece of red-and-silver clothing. Then on gameday, they show up wearing that crap. I don't get it.

skip-zip
As I've said often, if fans in this area want to establish the same presence that Cincinnati Bearcat fans have solidified in their area, this is the type of activities and attitude that need to become more prevalent. Buckzip
I think they should do this at EVERY Akron sporting event for every game. Yep. Students should be embarrassed to wear another schools gear at their own school. If you aren't proud of our school, go elsewhere.
legendofzippy
Yep. Students should be embarrassed to wear another schools gear at their own school. If you aren't proud of our school, go elsewhere. I still don't get the obsession here. If you picked your college based on your favorite sports team, you're a moron anyway. I grew up an Ohio State fan. Akron had a better engineering program so I went to Akron. I still like Ohio State, and the two teams rarely play. What's the big deal? skip-zip
the two teams rarely play. That's part of the problem. They won't schedule us. Take basketball, for instance, where they were forced to play us in the 1989 NIT, and have dodged us ever since. And now that we are very successful, what are the chances they will schedule us now? It's a sure way to make sure you don't get beat by other teams in Ohio, and risk losing credibility in basketball recruiting in their own state. I give them kudos for continuing to schedule us in soccer, although we've kicked their tails something like 5 or 6 games in a row now? Who knows about the future of the occasional football matchup. With the new national championship qualifying criteria, they will have to stop scheduling the way they do with their OOC games, since the abysmal Big 10 schedule, plus the lineup of cupcakes (which is a word you can apply to most of their schedule anyway), will hurt their cause substantially in the new system. mes102
Growing up, I was a Seattle Seahawks fan. I still am, but if I go to a Cleveland Browns game and it isn't against Seattle, then I'm not going to wear my SEA gear. It's that simple. It just looks stupid. Akron is DI, not DII or DIII. If you want to be an Ohio State fan AND an Akron fan, just don't show the OSU crap at Akron games that don't involve Ohio State. It's like being a fan of both the Browns and Bengals because they're in the state of Ohio. It's like being a fan of St. Ignatius and St. Edward (or Massillon and McKinley), because they're in the same county. Just doesn't make much sense to me. Or for the soccer example, it's like being a fan of both the Sounders and the Timbers. Just can't really happen. Yeah, for us Akron fans it might be easier since there's former Zips on each side of that rivalry, but if you're an average fan for either side, you absolutely HATE the other one. Just getting tired of the way other students make me feel I'm at a community college instead of a DI school.

How do you know they won't schedule UA?Wait, don't tell me, one of your 2 OSU buddies told you. LMAO. You don't know. You are just assuming. I would love to see them play in baksetball. I think it would be great for NE Ohio. Akron needs to knockoff a top 20 opponent to be taken seriously. As for the cupcakes that every major team plays, OSU had to play FAMU because Vanderbilt, of the SEC, cancelled the home and home and OSU was stuck looking for a replacement last year. OSU was supposed to play Vandy this year and next but they chickened out. When SDSU was scheduled they were a much better team. Then their coach left. Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGA, etc don't come north. The B10 pretty much sucks. That doesn't mean you make it up out of conference. Nobody does. What people with an agenda, like you, fail to ever recognize is that schedules are made years in advance. When Cal was scheduled they were a top 20 team under Tedford. They suck now, so that is OSU's fault for scheduling them in your world. So, if OSU schedules Bama for 4 straight years starting in 2016 but Bama gets hit with all of the recruiting violations that they have commited, they will suck in 2016 and you will be talking about the weak OSU schedule and blaming them for it. OSU has a home and home scheduled with Oklahoma in a few years. I hope OU is still good or you will be whining about SOS. OSU has a home and home with VTech starting next year. Oops, VTech is sucking right now, OSU fault for scheduling them. Never let facts get in the way of your rants. As for soccer, I love going to the OSU board and talking crap after UA wins. Most have a sense of humor about it.

Just getting tired of the way other students make me feel I'm at a community college instead of a DI school. I'm ok with that. If you go to an Akron game, you should wear Akron stuff. On campus I don't think it matters as much. Look, OSU is on a roll in two major sports, there are going to be a lot of fans. But we're on a roll in two sports (soccer isn't major) so why does everyone care what they're doing? Take football for example, they were talking about this on 1350 yesterday. OSU is going to get the top SVSM kids, like they're already doing. We need to make sure the next level of kids pick Akron. Dambrot has basketball to that level, now Bowden needs to do the same for football. What OSU - or any other top 25 team - is doing really doesn't matter to us. This is nitpicking I guess, but FAMU wasn't the Vandy replacement, SDSU was. FAMU was always a scheduled game. Announcers got that wrong. But the larger point is correct - every major school started scheduling cupcakes years ago when losses counted so heavily in the formula. Now everyone is scrambling to pick up tougher opponents. Good for football, but good for Akron? I think we'll be ok. Schools can't exclusively play top 25 opponents, so a MAC game on each schedule should still be fine. But the FAMU's of the world are going to be hurting.

Sigh..if they are too afraid to schedule us, why are they playing OU in basketball this season? Little difference between OU's program and ours, besides the fact that OU has beaten giants. Lets not let facts get in the way of our conspiracy theory.

Let me correct you on these two points: 1) The schools in the top conferences are not "scrambling". Many of those teams are just fine once their conference games are figured into the equation. 2) You need to have some connections in the athletic dept. There is a genuine concern that fewer and fewer "money games" will be available for us once the Big 10 and other similar conferences have to upgrade their SOS to have a chance at playoff consideration.
