Buckzip
1-We have a lead early and then go into a shell. 2-Over a minute until half time and we are content to run out the clock. 3-No adjustments after BG adjusted to what the defense was doing. 4-3rd and inches and you try a pass. 5-4th and inches and you attempt a FG with a bad kicker. 6-Ever trying to run Chisolm in short yardage. 7-Giving up throwing downfield after it worked early. 8-Trying the terrible screen pass that never works because it is so poorly designed. Does any other team set up a screen with no blockers in front of the receiver? 9-Showing complete lack of confidence in your o-line within 1 foot of the goal line. 10-Quitting on your team. I could go on and on, but this is just plain sad. There is absolutely no excuse for this loss.

Balsy
So sick of getting my heart torn out. I question why I care. I feel terrible for the parents of our players. Same here. I'm so mad and upset, only to be questioned by people around me on why I care. I'm seriously debating hanging up my Akron football jersey for good. I've seen the team go 7-46 (including this 1-4 season) and I'm not sure I can take it anymore. Its not good for your all but non-existent fan base to be questioning what else they could be doing instead of watching ZipsFB.
akzipper
Not being good enough to win is one thing, but I can't stand a team that isn't trying to win. Are the Zips tanking for a draft pick or something? I'm tired of trying to get excited for soccer. I'm tired of waiting for next year. I'm just flat out tired of losing. I'm glad I get to watch the Browns suck too tomorrow against the Bengals. I can't remember the last time I got to root for a good football team. 2003? Dr Z
JJ, addressed almost every one of the above comments to the coach after the game. Excellent Q&A from Joe and coach. You will learn something every time you hear coach speak. Tough loss for the excitement that was built in the first half. Too bad we didn't have a quality backup for Kyle when he got dinged in the head.
GP1
They lost by 17. Much more than a coaching problem. Zips still have a talent gap that needs to be addressed before they can compete with the better teams in the league for four quarters. Better coaching, they still lose. Sorry GP, there is no talent gap. 3rd and goal on the one inch line down 10. You run the ball in, and yhen use 4th down if third down doesn't work. The coaches over thought that situation. Overall we are as good if not better than BG and the coaches need to realize they have the talent to do the things every team can do. No need to be cute in those situations like they were today. Certainly not as big as last year and improving. My suggestion to fans who blame play calling is to diagram some plays and send them into the coaching staff. Most fans couldn't diagram a play. It doesn't matter if we drew up plays like The Fonz did in the Waterboy if the coach doesn't run them. Using the old "you couldn't do better" line doesn't prove your point one bit. They may be more talented than Akron, but this is on the coaching staff. They got a 2 score lead early and shut it down.
Valpo Zip
We can second guess play calling and have different opinions but can someone explain why we decided to chew 1:41 off the clock to end the first half? Keep in mind that we had all our timeouts too.

GP1
They may be more talented than Akron, but this is on the coaching staff. They got a 2 score lead early and shut it down. Did they shut it down or get shut down? I saw the game and saw a team that got shut down. The Zips threw some really good punches in the first quarter and shot their load. I watched a lot of football yesterday. The one consistent theme was the teams with the better talent won. South Carolina had better players across the board than UCF and survived the early flurry to win. Oklahoma had better talent than ND. OSU has way better talent than WI and won. NIU has way better talent than Purdue and won....that was no upset. Stanford was bigger, faster and stronger than Washington State. This is why recruiting is so important in college football. The teams with better talent win. If we are going to be critical of Bowden for anything it should be for bringing in players, specifically WRs, who are too small to break tackles. Football is about QBs, Coaches and WRs and we brought in two WRs who are too small.

What about Arizona St smacking USC or a horrible WVU beating OK St? They have better talent? Lol I seriously hope you don't believe the stuff you write..."Football is about QBs, Coaches, and WRs"

I like how you used the talent excuse only in the games that prove your point and ignore the rest. LOL As for small receivers, you keep mentioning that. Sure there are a couple small guys, but most of the WR are good size. I'm not sure what the hell you are looking at. Bickley is tiny but is a spark plug. Lol I seriously hope you don't believe the stuff you write..."Football is about QBs, Coaches, and WRs" I saw him play and I'm not impressed. Need bigger players. The guy doing play by play said basically the following during one of his receptions: "Bubble screen to short guy. Look at him go. What an exciting player. He is like trying to catch a water bug. It's now second and nine." Enough said. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Get the ball downfield to bigger WRs. USC has been crippled with recruiting sanctions over the past few years and is perfect evidence to prove my point. Thanks for bringing them up. Fewer scholarships means fewer good players to pick from. Fewer good players means less overall talent. Yes, ASU has better talent. Let's eye where Oklahoma State is at the end of the year. They aren't as talented as in the past. I bet they won't be in the top 25. There will always be upsets so nothing is 100%, but in the majority of cases in college athletics, the team with the better talent wins. It's easy to point the finger at one person when things don't go right. Saying things like the coaches "quit" are the silly discussions fans have when they don't know what else to say. It assumes the person knows the mental state of those they are talking about. If the coaches yesterday were driving NASCAR cars, Bowden was driving a Nationwide Series car and BGs coach was driving a Sprint Series car. The difference in the cars makes theirs faster and ours non competitive against their. Bowden had to hope for them to crash to beat them. They didn't crash. We lost again. Akron is going to win some games this year. It isn't going to be against the likes of BG and NIU. I still thin they will win four, but they don't have the base talent to win more. There are more Nationwide Series cars in the MAC then Sprint Cup Series cars.
GP1
Yea, BG forced is to run out the clock with over a minute to go before the half. I didn't like what the coaches did here either. The assumption is we would have scored. Maybe, maybe not. BG had some momentum at that point. While I don't agree with it, I can see why they did it. Let's say we score, we still lose by ten. If they get an int for a td, we lose by more. Nobody on the board can say for certain what would have happened. What we do know happened was BG was able to use superior talent across the board to win a game against an average to below average talented program. The Zips don't need a spark. They need players who present them with the opportunity to move the ball and get first downs. BG has that type of team. Lots of good players all over the place. We need to get the Zips to that level and not a program wishing for a miracle every week or trying to trick play themselves to victory. I can't review every college game on this board. a-zip
I am not happy about the loss (the missed FG cost me the point spread ) BUT, lets not forget that when everyone made their predictions for Ws and Ls, I think most picked this as a loss. So, in my humble opinion we are showing signs of life and I think we are going in the right directions............. Central Florida - beat Penn State, barely lost to South Carolina James Madison - a good team, would compete well in the MAC - we showed guts in the comeback Michigan - nothing more needs to be said - still so proud BG - most would have predicted a loss, they beat Tulsa and destroyed Can't State (who they outscored Can't State 24-0 over the final 34:40) Just trying to keep people off the ledge ;-)
GP1
I'm not sure what the hell you are looking at. Bickley is tiny but is a spark plug. I saw four catches for fifteen yards. Longest catch was for seven. That means he averaged 2.66 yards per catch in his other three catches. What is the spark I am missing?
