You know,

Last week was an disaster in the second half and we all know that. However this week is an new week and it is Homecoming! To understand the Bobcats, lets look at the tale of the tape:

If you take out the Louisville game, I ask the question "who have they played?" Here is the following this season:

-North Texas

-Marshall

-Austin Peay

They have an combined record of 4-8 this season. You might say that is not that bad, however looking at who the played so far says different. Other than Marshall playing Virginia Tech, it was stiffs playing stiffs and Austin Peay is that bad this year.

Ohio had an week off, so they will be rested. I promise you that their fans think that it will be a blowout in their favor, I do not see it at all because it is an must win for the Zips. Expect an close game.

We get Blown out at home. I've been overly excited for this team, thinking positively, but after three straight weeks of having the opportunity to win games and not being able to finish means to me that this will also be a loss. Think about it, we don't have ANYTHING to gain from winning this game...or any other game this year. MAC C chance is now gone, and the three games that would have meant something if won were all Losses. Michigan, LA-La and BG were all winnable games that were crucial. Saying this game is crucial is just non-sense.

I hate it when we are one game into the conference schedule and we already can't win the championship... :wall::mad_flame:

I'll take a stab at it...

I don't think Bobcat fans will be looking past Akron at all. It's a combo of two things- 1. Good Ohio teams find ways to lose games they shouldn't (think Miami last year, Buffalo the year before that, Can't the year before that, etc.), and 2. Akron has shown that they are progressing. It hasn't translated into the Win column yet for the Zips but its close, and the Bobcats don't want to be the first to fall. Ohio had a bye week this week and was able to get a lot of banged up guys some much needed rest. They'll be ready and not looking past Akron.

As for Ohio's competition, It's not stellar but its better than presented. Throw out the high and the low- Lville and FCS, and you've got two decent 2-2 CUSA teams- North Texas and Marshall. Marshall crushed Miami and lost to Virginia Tech in OT while North Texas beat Ball State (4-1) and gave #9 Georgia a scare for a a couple of quarters last week.

So what does it all mean? Solich decided to go real easy in fall camp to avoid injuries and Ohio came out soft, unprepared and still lost 7 guys to injuries against Lville. They are thin on the O line and lost the 1 returner starter in their D front 7 in week 1. But there have been some young guys that have stepped and some of the injured vets may be back next week.

Last year Ohio started hot and faded through the year as the injuries stacked up and the competition got tougher. This feels like started off low and are getting better each week. I expect a good game next week, both teams have a lot to play for. best of luck.

The way the MAC is you almost need to run the table in order to get to the MAC C, and if you don't you need to at least beat the top teams. Beating BG was the only legitimate chance this team had to a MAC C run. Perhaps I'll be forced to eat my words (hopefully so) but I doubt that.

This team lost 3 MAC games, and still won the MAC Championship

First, maybe we should discuss when to use "a" and when to use "an".

Anyway, are we seriously going to question who other teams beat? They have three wins, that's impressive. It doesn't mean they're a great team - I feel like OU has been a little overrated the past few years - but you have to respect three wins.

The last time we had three wins was 2009. Morgan State, Can't and Eastern Michigan. Jesus, now I'm depressed. As sad as that season was it would be huge for us now.

I contend the sideways pass has been our #1 option.
I wish every team that I root for would pull the bubble screen pass out of the playbook and burn it. Defenses have caught up to that play (for the majority). I just love to see that play run for negative four on first down. Give me Hundley off tackle for positive four on first down instead. He may not hit the home run like Chisholm, but I think he moves the chains and keeps the defense fresh in the second half.

I don't know how much credence, I put in this injury list, but Hirschman is not listed this week. He was listed last week.

Good Hirschman news:

Back in step: Backup quarterback Nick Hirschman should be back in uniform and available this week after missing the last three games due to a freak knee injury suffered in the Zips lone victory over James Madison. Hirschman hurt his knee celebrating a touchdown play vs. JMU and has not been able to play since. He did not even travel last week to Bowling Green, leading to redshirt freshman Dalton Easton taking a lone snap late in the first half when Pohl momentarily had his bell rung.

"He's getting reps,'' Bowden said. "It's getting closer."

Didn't seem worth a new thread. The Suburbanite writes about C.J. James and Nordly Capi. By Andy Harris

Thanks, Dr Z

This article reminds me of something I've been harping on lately and it showed once again at BG. This defense is VERY good at forcing fumbles. But we need to start recovering them! If this (a recovery) had happened in either of the last two games, these plays could have been game-changing. It would be great to have TT and his RBs cough it up a few times on Saturday, resulting in a few key turnovers.

Zips tied for 6th nationally in sacks.

Teams that recover a lot of fumbles always have a lot of players around the ball. If we can get more guys around the ball at all times, the fumble recovering will improve.

Read some stats on GoZips this morning, and thought, even though it hasn't showed up in the only stat that matters, wins and losses, both lines (offensive/defensive) should be encouraged by improvement.

Stats are for losers:

• UA has not allowed a sack in three-straight games (five this season). That ties as the 21st fewest nationally.

• UA has lost just one fumble this season, tied for fourth nationally. Only four teams have not lost a fumble.

• The Zips have recorded 15 sacks, 16 all of last year. UA's 3.0 spg average is tied for 17th nationally.

• UA's 7.6 tackles-for-loss per game ranks first in the MAC and 18th in the country.

Hoping to dominate the trenches tomorrow!

No final score would surprise me tomorrow...odd.

I think we haven't seen any final score predictions partly because of that and partly because no one wants to predict another loss. The sun doesn't start shining until another two weeks - Tettleton is a good QB, another close and hard fought loss. OU 28-24 and I will be there for this one hoping I am very, very wrong.

OU is a good, well coached team. They have only played one game on the road this year and got destroyed. Still, they have beaten an improved NTSU, who beat a good Ball State. The win against Marshall was an upset if you look at the Herd's schedule. OU may be one of those teams that plays as well as their competition with the exception of the Louisville destruction.

I expect a game similar to last week's with the Zips playing well in the first half. I don't think the Zips are there just yet to beat a team like OU, so I'm going with the Zips losing.

Akron 21

OU 31

The game will be close until about 8 minutes to go in the game.

Ohio has 18 on their injured list and Akron has 1, which helps to equal out a lost recruiting class under 'I'diot here in 2011-12. OU emphasizes it's running game which should help cut down the big plays our defense gives up. If our QB's are healthy enough to execute, this may be our week.
