Looks like they are trying to recoup their $38k. The rest is a pipe dream.

The Canton company aims to turn the 73-year-old, horseshoe-shaped bowl into an entertainment center for mixed-martial arts, concerts, fireworks, football games and just about anything else it can think of.

After that, it’s go time for the bowl’s new lease on life. Mason said his investors will pump $10 million to $12 million into new turf, an aluminum overdeck system that will cover the concrete and seal it from further decay and a pre-fabricated press box.

“We’re actually looking at putting a dome on the stadium,” so that it could be used year-round. That would add another $15 million to $20 million to the bill, he said.

Below is a picture of the stall doors that were auctioned off.

Thank you and have a nice evening.

I see what ya did there... :D

Still miss that place though. Made some pretty great memories there. Hope undergrads are doing the same at the Info. Football is on its way to being relevant again.

The original founder of the USFL was caught for embezzlement, and the new board has no interest in coming to Akron because they want to control stadium, revenue, housing, etc. So for some reason the group that wants to refurbish the stadium is holding an auction for this junk. I think they want their money back and will do nothing afterwards.

Was there today. What a decrepid mess that place is. Beyond depressing. Auction items turned out to be mostly a bunch of junk. The scoreboard sold for $1,000.00. But anything cool or of nostalgic value has been long gone from that place.

On a positive note: the hype brought Fox 8 news down. They will be airing a little segment about the Rubber Bowl on Sunday. Plus there will be something on the news 6pm and 10pm tonight.
