Captain Kangaroo
Evidence would fill a book the size of the bible. Did you forget about Zeke's four years already?! If Zeke played for John Calipari, do you think he would have progressed better...or sat at the end of the bench... or quit basketball prior to his eligibility expiring? I think KD got the most out of Zeke Marshall that anyone could. Probably more.
zippy5
Better than Tree being in-uniform and practicing? I'd think that KD wouldn't let him back in right away. You quit on your team, there are consequences regardless of who you are. I'd imagine his message is similar here.

Dave in Green
@B4110, since you were the first to post about Tree being away from the team, I trust your latest update. @zippy5, personally, I don't believe that Tree thought he was quitting on his team. I believe he considers himself a team leader, that he was deeply frustrated by the Saint Mary's and Middle Tennessee games and that he had difficulty reconciling that frustration with his passion for winning. I believe that he wanted to take the team on his shoulders and carry the team to victory and was frustrated that he couldn't do it by himself. I believe that if Tree learns from this experience that he will become a much wiser person and much better player, both as an individual and within the context of team. I can't think of a better person to help Tree through this development process than Coach Dambrot.

Tree simply needs to realize that we have no chance of winning those games. He needs to appreciate the fact that we beat Mississippi State 5 or 6 years ago, and that the confetti from that victory still obscures the sun. He needs to realize it is unrealistic to expect to win any of the marquee OOC games leading up to the MAC season. Only then do the games really count. The sooner he aligns his goals with the low-aimer Zips basketball fans, the better off he'll be. If it helps boost his spirits, there are some who are hoping we can develop Evans or Betancourt into a D-1 point guard over the course of this season so we'll be more competitive next season. In November, building towards the next season is really what it is all about.
Dave in Green
... He needs to appreciate the fact that we beat Mississippi State 5 or 6 2 years ago, and that the confetti from that victory still obscures the sun. ... Tree remembers that game better than you do. It was his first D1 game in a Zips uniform. He only got to play for 8 minutes, scoring 2 points and grabbing 2 rebounds, but he got to feel and taste that confetti. He wants to make it happen again, as do all of his teammates, all of his coaches and all Zips fans. How to make it happen is the missing link. skip-zip
Better than Tree being in-uniform and practicing? Greedy? Compare being AT practice, even undressed, to where we stood at this time yesterday.

If the sample size of your evidence is one guy - Zeke - then that's not a lot of evidence.

Actually, I was referring to the Mississippi State win from 2005-6. I figured since LOZ was referencing the Florida State NIT win in the same post, he/she was referring to the Mississippi State win of that era. Regardless of the landmark Mississippi State win, LOZ's point remains valid - if Tree would simply realize the Zips should not expect to win, much less care about winning such games, and wait until the MAC season to really be concerned about W's and L's, he'd be much better off. Dr Z
Tree is back per EA The drama seems to be over with Treadwell. He returned to practice Thursday after missing a day, leading to speculation the 6-7, 235-pound Euclid High product was looking to leave the program. Dave in Green
@Captain Kangaroo, now I get your point. I'd forgotten how the Zips have owned Mississippi State over the years.
akronzips71
I think my blood pressure just went back to normal. Sounds like Tree and the coach had a falling out. It happens. Tree is not Babe Ruth, in which case it would have been KD looking for a job. But for mere mortals, the coach always wins.

akronad
It's great that Tree is back. Also, it says a lot for UA basketball that they someone that played to help players get through the difficult times. Thanks Len Paul! Dr Z
Len Paul brings Tree back written by GT There’s a reason to believe he might be a reason this situation is soon resolved. He arrived at the same time as Zips great Len Paul. Paul has served as a mentor to Zips players and Treadwell in particular for more than two years. When asked if he brought Paul in to have a heart-to-heart with Treadwell, Dambrot wouldn’t comment.
legendofzippy
I like this line: internal spats such as these are the norm, not the exception on any sports team. Look at the infighting on this message board - now imagine if we were actually competing with someone!
Dr Z
Could have been an informing/entertaining show, but Zips Live is CANCELLED tonight. Bill Morgan will speak with head basketball coaches Keith Dambrot and Jodi Kest in the next installment on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 7-8 p.m. at Johnny J's Pub and Grille in the Valley.
