Z.I.P.
Regulation completed. Akron was dominant on the ball for final 20-25 minutes. Let's hope that is a sign of things to come...We did have trouble linking up from the attack into the penalty area though. Defensively, our shape looked superb. Z.I.P.
Has anyone else noticed the Marquette student section next to the right end goal? About ten kids with a couple flags. lol

GoZips
See how dumb I am? Those "punts", especially into the wind, spelled doom. Pass the ball to the defender next year. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Zips lose 1-0 late in first overtime on a returned punt. Idiots.

mes102
It helps when they play on a field like that. I've played on a field like that, and they might as well of played it in the parking lot. Wouldn't made much of a difference. That's how rough it is. Marquette knows that field, and how it is during this time of year, while Akron doesn't normally play on that type of field. That's the type of home field advantage that is hard to surpass. Was hoping we could just make it to the 2OT as that right half of the field got majority of the possession in the 1st and 2nd half, along with the 1st overtime. I'm in medical school now, not at Akron, so I don't have much free time. Also, since most of my time is spent inside studying, I like to go out and do other things on my breaks. Dave in Green
I'll be interested to read the detailed game analysis from those who understand the finer points of soccer. From my uneducated soccer viewpoint, the one thing that really stood out to me was that the Marquette players seemed to be about as skilled as the Zips, but they appeared to play with a greater intensity and with higher energy. It seemed that whenever there was a 50-50 chance of one team or another gaining control of the ball, the Marquette players prevailed by roughly a 2:1 ratio. Another thing that sticks out in my mind is that it seemed most of the time when the camera focused on the ball, there were more yellow shirts than blue shirts in view. If I didn't know better, I would have thought the Zips were playing a man short. Marquette players seemed to be drawn to the ball like a magnet. But the Zips were unable to capitalize on this by getting the ball out to an open player. It seemed as if Marquette's aggression caused the Zips' possession game to fall apart. Sadly, the NCAA selection committee will be nodding their heads at their infinite wisdom. They knew enough to rank the Zips better than Indiana but not Marquette. So, where do we go from here? Also, since most of my time is spent inside studying, I like to go out and do other things on my breaks. Brenes, Derschang, Portillos, Quinn, Stevenson are out of eligibility. Gallego will probably go pro; Najem could do the same, but likely not. Pina may very well transfer. This team will be gutted. Now we will really find out about Embick. Can he back-fill these losses? He had better recruit well.

I could imagine, wait I know, how defensive you get when anybody questions KD or the players. If you were such a soccer genius, maybe you should be selling your strategy to some of the best managers in the world. You'd get laughed at. I don't like to see fans on twitter crying about the NCAA/field. Both teams are playing on the same surface.

He agreed with me. It is a dumb play for the most part. But, what does KD know? He coaches the wrong sport. Pretty well, too, I must add. Oh, btw, I do ask KD about somethings I see. But, that is mostly to learn as I am not a basketball coach.
LZIp
Please stop with the personal attacks against the other members of the forum. http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?s=...st&p=213505 I do not see it as a personal attack. He is simply wrong and extremely biased and I'm telling him that and as well telling him that I do not appreciate calling student athlete's idiots and morons when its clear he isn't very familiar with how soccer is played. Not sure why you choose to single me out when other posters said similar things like "surprised you aren't the coach" in reply to him, but I didnt mean to get under your skin. I very well might be wrong since I don't know a lot about soccer, but it seems like they've really lacked a dominant player the past couple years. Dave in Green
It's really easy to get hypersensitive after a big loss and say things in the heat of the moment that we'll later regret. It's also easy to misinterpret valid points that others are trying to make. It's a good time to give careful thought before pushing the Add Reply button. I don't think Coach Dambrot sits around criticizing Coach Embick's game strategy any more than Coach Bowden sits around criticizing Coach Dambrot's game strategy or Coach Embick sits around criticizing Coach Bowden's game strategy. Time to fess up and admit you made this up before Coach Embick calls up Coach Dambrot and asks him if you represent Coach Dambrot's official position. yazan07
Sad to see Akron and Portland's seasons end on the same night. Going forward, I'm really concerned about our losses next year. Our attack could be left in shambles with all of our attack graduating. Down the stretch, where we really started heating up, it was the seniors who put the team on their backs and carried us to wins. Is Najem the only attacking player we have returning who really played this year? Yeah I think next year will be even more a test for Embick. Hopefully Gallego comes back next year, they will need his leadership. That one really comes down to a decision of how bad Porter thinks he needs Bryan or if he thinks he's better off playing his last year at Akron. LZIp
final thoughts on the season: I was probably too critical of Embick this season. Tonight's loss was disappointing, and while we struggled by our standards the majority of the season, we seemed to get back to playing Akron soccer towards the end and looked really good. This gives me some more confidence for the future. He deserves our support. As others have stated, the Zips lose a good amount of talent. Next year will be a true test for Embick, but I have confidence in him. Go Zips!
