MDZip Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 The MAC released the POY and COY. No real surprise that McCrea won it, my big surprise is that four MAC players got votes and Tree was not one of them (hope thats a bit of motivation for next year). All four of the other first teamers got at least one vote. Steve Hawkins of WMU got the other vote. Can't argue too much with that. Montgomery (NIU) Kowalczyk (Toledo) and Hurley (Buffalo) also got votes. Glad Hurley didn't win it. http://www.mac-sports.com/tabid/969/Article/327373/Buffalo-s-McCrea-Western-Michigan-s-Hawkins-Receive-Top-MAC-Honors.aspx. Something seems a little funny though. The article mentions a 25 member voting panel and there are 25 votes for COY but there are 26 for POY. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 I wouldn't have voted for Tree. He was a no-brainer first team all MAC. But he has a lot of improving to do if he wants to be considered the most valuable player in the conference. Quote
zippy5 Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 I think KD did a heck of a coaching job this year, all things considered. The injuries, Q assimilating back into the team, Tree almost leaving, the loss of Alex, mucky PG situation. This year could have been a lot worse. I could see it unraveling with if a lot of other MAC coaches were at the helm. Quote
Balsy Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 ^Agreed. Now all we need to do is win the MAC and the "bad" season still wouldn't be that bad. Quote
GP1 Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 This year could have been a lot worse.I'm of the opinion it could have been better. Things can always be worse...they can also be better. It all depends on if you expect more or not. Quote

But, my biggest issue is that he seemed to be "accepting" of this team's deficiencies. I've never seen him do that before, and it's not what I want to see. Quote

Dave in Green Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 If it were me, I would have correctly pointed out that things can always be worse...they can also be better...or they can remain the same. Quote
LZIp Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 Congrats to McCrea as well as the other award winners. Well deserved. I think McCrea definitely should have won it, but am suprised by the margin he won it by. I found the MAC overall to be a much more enjoyable basketball conference to follow than years past. Seems to be some teams stepping up. Quote
Dave in Green Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 For his farewell performance, the MAC POY shot 2-13 from the field and 3-7 from the free throw line as his #3 seed team was upset by the #6 seed team, pulling a one-and-done in the MAC tournament. Quote

Eastern's size frustrated McCrea the entire night; it even forced him to get a technical foul, which is one of the reasons why Buffalo lost. If I were Toledo, I'd be very careful, seeing as how Eastern beat them by 20 this year already. Quote
