Jake and Reggie could both start but then sub out and back in at staggered times in order to always have at least one of them in the game as a deep threat. Having said that, the Zips are going to have more deep threats available this season than just those two. The team's second best 3-point shooting percentage to Reggie (42.5%) last season wasn't turned in by Jake (35.2%) but by Deji (39.4%), who's also returning.

Gone this season are Melo (25.9%), Nick (21.4%) and Q (34.2%). Melo rightfully had no confidence in his outside shot and didn't shoot many, Nick had more confidence than he should have and shot too many, and Q was only average from deep. As a group, BJ, Aaron, Noah and Antino will give the Zips better options as deep threats this season than the three departed players.

Looks good on paper, Dave. But you know how I am. I'll believe it when I see these guys start launching 3-pointers in real D-1 college games. Until then, all I see is potential.

Yep, it's all just on paper so far. If the rookies can't shoot 3s better than the 20% range, it could get ugly around here. So might as well enjoy the potential now and get a little enjoyment out of being a Zips basketball fan.

Amen. It's not as if replacing 20-some percent shooters is a high bar to reach, right? At least, it shouldn't be.

No televised home games this season. As a part of the MAC's new deal with ESPN, universities that don't have a quality infrastructure for internet streaming won't get their home games televised.

Seriously?

UA has called my 3 times in the past month looking for "endowments".

And they can't even arrange for me to watch the BB games.

Endow this.

This team is going to be a lot different with no Treadwell.

My guess (once Big Dog is back):

C-Johnson/Forsythe
F-Cheatham/Aa. Jackson
F-McAdams/Kretzer
G-Ibitayo/Gladden/Evans
G-Robotham/An. Jackson
Redshirt: Ivey
It's also possible they go small - Johnson/Kretzer/McAdams/Ibitayo/Robotham

Can't red shirt Ivey. He is a grey shirt and not on scholarship.

Rather than dwelling on the loss of Tree, I think it's better to be like the coaching staff and players who are now focused on how to best cover for his loss. The most obvious problem is finding a way to compensate for the loss of all the rebounds Tree could be relied on to snag. I don't even know the answer to the question of who's the second best rebounder on the team. I suppose the most likely candidate is Big Dog, so hopefully he returns quickly. Pat is just an average rebounder. Kwan finally showed a little promise in the last game. But the rest of the players have pretty much deferred to Tree to snag rebounds, and now they all have to refocus and understand they no longer have that rebounding crutch to lean on.

Offensively, Tree was the team's leading scorer, which has caused defenses to double- and triple-team him. With Tree out of the lineup, will someone else step up their shooting game and become the new focus of opposing defenses, or will all the players step up and have such balanced scoring that defenses can't focus on any one Zips player? Maybe the most important question is how this will affect the Zips team chemistry. Going from a team with a clear #1 star to a team of many near equals is a big change. Even though Noah is a true freshman, he's essentially the team's QB by virtue of playing the point. His maturity and confidence beyond his years may give him the ability to step up and be the kind of leader he was on a loaded HS team.
