Ham
While most of us will tip a few to honor St. Patrick Monday, footballs will be flying. I'm looking forward to see how the red shirts fit into the mix. I won't be surprised to see a few crack the 2 deep. I could do without the daily recap if Coach B would feed us a more comprehensive weekly summary.

Zipmeister
Totally agree. A couple minuets worth of info or none at all.Apparently you two weren't around to enjoy the daily presentations of icoach (or you have been able to blot them from your memory, in which case you are very fortunate). Buckzip
A lot of guys from last years recruiting class are missing from the spring roster because they weren't eligible. Hopefully they will be back in the fall, but they will have missed an entire year, including spring ball.

UA1987
Bowden's concerns seem to be focused on the offensive line and defensive secondary, both areas with new coaches. Got to be a concern for the HC when you lose so many starters in these areas and then have new coaches to boot. I think our offensive ine will be OK, but a little more concerned about our defensive secondary. Still wondering who's going to line up where and what the two deep will look like on the defensive line. Answers will start to trickle in next week. Blue & Gold
Has anyone heard whether Pittman will be DT or DE?Lavonne Gauthney won't be with the team till the fall, but he'll almost certainly be on the 2-deep @ DT.If Pittman is DT, then we've got 4-deep @ DT: Grice, Hollis, Pittman, Gauthney. UA1987
I don't see long time reserve OL Micah Lio on the Spring roster. I thought he would be a Senior in 2014. Not sure what happened, but I thought he'd get some playing time this year. May be another reason Bowden has said he'd like to get another lineman and has concerns with this group. johnnyzip84
I joined ZipsWin!, 2Ball, and K92 in attending today's scrimmage. Here are a few observations:Heading into 2014, I was pretty concerned about the secondary, especially the loss of Freeman. My concerns are greatly subsided after seeing the secondary, particularly #21 Kris Givens, display competence and ability against a pretty good receiver corps. Givens will be a "shut down" corner.Nordly Capi is in significantly better condition now than he was in 2013. He had a decent season last year, but I predict he'll play more like the guy shown below in 2014 (i.e. he'll create turnovers like a machine):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi1x5tVI0N4 3. The backup QBs (Woodson and Hirschman) need to improve dramatically for UA to have any useful depth at this position. 4. Manny Morgan will get some playing time at RB in 2014. He has nice balance and decent speed and power. 5. LT Smith should have a banner 2014. The 2 long pass plays were both from KP16 to LT. 6. "Fresh" is now wearing #4 7. CJ Mizell also looks to be in better shape for 2014. 8. Jatavis Brown just keeps getting better and better. Ditto with Justin March. The LB corps is so deep Rossi has apparently been moved back to fullback. 9. Austin Wolf had quite a few balls tossed his way. He looks to be more of a possession receiver to me, but that's a bad thing, I like his hands. 10. The offensive line has some growing to do. There is talent there, but the D-line is definitely ahead at this point. 11. Hollis played very well, completely blowing up one running play for a big loss. Pittman played both DE and DL and played well in both positions. 12. MTB was targeted frequently, buy he needs to become more reliable at bringing in catchable balls. 13. As expected, Lane, Gauthney, and Moore did not participate. They should join the team for practices in summer camp. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the things I saw. The biggest concern is depth at QB. Perhaps Hoyer or Kincade, both of whom certainly looking the part physically, might eventually contribute in this area.
Dave in Green
Has Hirschman regressed from the player who last season appeared to be a potential challenger to KP16, or has KP16 just gotten that much better?
johnnyzip84
Has Hirschman regressed from the player who last season appeared to be a potential challenger to KP16, or has KP16 just gotten that much better?I think KP16 looked pretty sharp today, BUT NH15 did NOT have a good scrimmage. He underthrew several deep balls, and in one instance he simply threw one up for grabs over the middle. It's only one scrimmage, but it was not an encouraging performance from such an experienced player.
Dave in Green
Got it. So NH15 needs to show more of what he did in his brief appearance before being injured last season in order to generate confidence that he's at least an adequate backup. K92
As always, JZ84 is spot-on in his analysis. I will also add that Mizell appears to be trimmer as well. The defense has some swagger. They look confident and really pursue intensely. The defensive line got consistent pressure all day and the linebackers are All-MAC. Secondary looked solid.Offense struggled to consistently move the ball. I missed the first bomb to LT but saw the second one. Nice. I am hoping they just need some time to gel.
