GoZips
Do the deal, Noah. You will enjoy the ride; the work; the company; the pride; the championships.
Captain Kangaroo
Glad we are still in the running. We need him. There's no other true mid-major school where you can essentially guarantee you'll be playing in multiple conference championship games and experience multiple NCAA appearances during your career. And be guaranteed to have the same coach all 4 years. Good fit for both Noah and the Zips. Hope to see the signing today.
Dr Z
We have to land this kid. I can already envision Zips fans robot(ham) dancing when he makes a play.If they played the Maria Menounos "Noah" sound clip every time he scored, I wouldn't miss a home game. Dave in Green
Zips have made it to Noah's Final Three, with Jim Christian's ACC Boston College Eagles in the mix, and the final decision coming next week at the earliest:But other seniors such as Bishop Gorman point guard Noah Robotham and Durango guard Darryl Gaynor remain undecided.Robotham, the Review-Journal and Gatorade state player of the year, has a top three of Akron, Boston College and San Jose State, according to Gorman coach Grant Rice. Robotham isn’t expected to sign until next week at the earliest.“Those are the schools he’s focused on,” Rice said. “He has a few other offers he’s kind of thinking about, but he’s not signing just because it’s signing day.”Robotham made an official visit March 17 to San Jose State, where he would be reunited with Gorman graduate Rashad Muhammad. Robotham had an in-home visit with Akron coach Keith Dambrot last month and visited the school the weekend of March 30. Also, new Boston College coach Jim Christian recruited Robotham while he was still at Ohio. The 6-foot Robotham averaged a team-high 16.0 points, 7.1 assists and 3.1 steals as the Gaels won their third straight large-school state title. A two-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, he is the program’s all-time winningest player with 112 victories.
Dave in Green
Let's help Noah with some data to make his decision. Everyone feel free to add to the list:San Jose StateAdvantages -- Good location near San Franciso with good weather; chance to play with HS teammateDisadvantages -- Horrible team history with only one winning season in the past 17 seasons; perennial Mountain West Conference doormat; weak schedule with only one high-profile opponent (San Diego State); smaller arena than the JAR with average attendance of about 1,500; zero chance to appear in NCAA tournamentBoston CollegeAdvantages -- Good location in metro Boston; lots of high-profile games in the ACCDisadvantages -- Historically below average conference record; recent slide to bottom of ACC; fan base disappointed with new coach tasked with rebuilding team having no history of rebuilding a weak team; weak fan support with average home attendance only a few hundred more than the Zips despite playing in ACC; small likelihood of playing in the NCAA tournament over the next four seasonsAkronAdvantages -- Need for quality PG offers best option of being a 4-year starter; perennial conference power winning 21+ games per season over the past decade; stable, proven winner coach who will be here for the next four seasons and beyond; solid returning lineup (except PG) promises more success over the next few seasons; history over the past six seasons of appearing in the NCAA tournament every other yearDisadvantages -- Akron not as glamorous as San Jose or Boston; MAC not as prestigious as ACC
UAZip0510
2013-2014Akron - 21-13 (12-6), 95th RPI, Lost in Semi-Finals in 1st Round of Conference Tournament (Other Notes: Three NCAA Tournament berths in last six seasons)Boston College - 8-24 (4-14), 267th RPI, Lost in 1st Round of Conference Tournament (Other Notes: Last winning season came in 2010-2011)San Jose State - 7-24 (1-17), 316th RPI, Lost in 1st Round of Conference Tournament (Other Notes: Eighteen years since last NCAA Tournament appearance)Akron returns every player but one and Robotham could start as a true freshman. I obviously have bias, but it seems like an easy decision to me.
Dave in Green
Noah's latest tweet seems to differ a little from what his HS coach was quoted saying in today's story about Akron, Boston College and San Jose State being his main focus:I have not cut my college decisions by any means..I'm still undecided and have not made a list
Z.I.P.
Akron not as glamorous as San Jose or Boston;Dave (and Noah) lolI DO know the way to San Jose -- been there multiple times, AND "glamorous" is not a word I would use to describe it. Dave in Green
Other than the warm weather, metro San Jose doesn't do much for me, either. But it's part of Silicon Valley, which is the South Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area. Let's just say that area is more glamorous than Northeast Ohio. UAZip0510
According to Verbal Commits, 2014 Durango (NV) G Darryl Gaynor, Jr. has committed to San Jose State. The next day, Robotham tweeted this: @NoahRobotham14: Safe to say I'll be signing before May 21st!! Can't wait for the next stage of my life It seems like he might have made a decision. If you believe the previous report of his final three, it seems like he'll be playing for Keith Dambrot or Jim Christian.
GoZips
Players do NOT go to San Jose State to ball. They go SJSU to enjoy the extra curricular life. What I remember most about the San Jose area was the great flying weather. As a private pilot I loved it. Use to fly out of Reid-Hillview airport. Flying in for landing you flew low over a huge Sears store. You could actually land on its roof as several pilots did in an emergency. The other thing about San Jose was all the old people out early in the morning gathering large snails that were sold to restaurants to make Escargot. Dave in Green
Hard to believe, but lowly San Jose State today got a verbal from a PG ranked higher than Noah -- 6-2 Darryl Gaynor Jr. from Las Vegas Durango HS. Gaynor is a composite 2.7-star PG while Noah is a 2-star. But since we don't pay no attention to no steenkin' star rankings at ZipsNation, we'd be just fine with Nevada's HS player of the year (Noah), What this probably means is that Noah is less likely to select San Jose State, which should help increase the Zips' odds of landing him. GoZips
Noah is getting a lot of tweets asking him to commit to UNLV. If he does he will enjoy a loooong stint on the bench; possibility his entire college career. A fifth year senior just signed with UNLV and they have an outstanding sophomore point guard. Happy trails gathering splinters when he could be a four year starter at Akron.
Dave in Green
UNLV is loaded with quality PGs and out of scholarships, so I wouldn't worry about a couple of diehard local fans of Noah wishing he could stay in Las Vegas.Boston College remains UA's primary known rival for Noah's services. Due to transfers, the Eagles are down to just one PG on their roster -- 6-4 junior Olivier Hanlan, the team's best returning player. They could use a backup PG and have three scholarships to give. BC fan discussions show they understand that it's late in the recruiting process to find high-ranked players available. Some are OK with Noah as a backup to Hanlan but question if he could ever be a starter in the ACC and wonder why their main recruiting competitor is lowly Akron. I'm sure that Jim Christian is looking for an ACC-level PG. But since he recruited Noah at OU, that would be a logical fallback if no higher-rated PG is available. Quickzips
Feeling good about our chances. I'm with you on this one Zach. You just read Noah's twitter a little bit and you get the impression that he has Akron pretty high up there. He retweets a lot of Akron related stuff (including tweets from Tree and one about the arena announcement today). You don't see anything like that from him about BC, San Jose State or any of the other programs he is being linked to.
