Dr Z
Good to know where KD stands on the (AA) situation. Like a few ZN members suggested during the season, I like to read this:"Our 6-foot-10 kid is 310 pounds," Dambrot said. "We feel if we can get him down to 290 pounds, he'll be a much better player." UA1987
I would take him back too, but on a condition that a trusted (approved both by the University and Abreu) counselor has daily contact with him, with all compliance issues wrapped up, to guide him along. Once off the track it takes a while before the rails tighten up and it could be that Alex will need help till he ages. For now, the best thing for him is to play ball and learn. He should play with humility and not speak on behalf of the Zips, with the media, untill the the season is over and all went well,
Sergeant Zip
Alex Abreu heading back to Puerto Rico. Based on his twitter timeline it doesn't appear to be a vacation.
skip-zip
IAlex Abreu heading back to Puerto Rico. Based on his twitter timeline it doesn't appear to be a vacation.I wonder if it's just because his probation has not allowed him to leave the country until now, and he's thankful to finally be able to get back there to visit? But, the "good luck" response from George makes you wonder if it's more than just a vacation. I've heard nothing else on this topic recently, which was not the case with the Harney situation.

I believe it was Josh Egner that said it.

skip-zip
I don't see how that would be an issue in this case. When someone is serving probation, they often cannot even leave the area without requirements. But, I don't know his circumstances.
Hilltopper
His probation is over. He is free to leave the country. http://www.cpclerk.co.summit.oh.us/PublicSite/Documents/crvze20000158D.pdfhttp://www.cpclerk.co.summit.oh.us/PublicSite/Documents/crvzd7000043D7.pdf

Puerto Rico is a part of America. He could always go there, unless his probation forbade him from crossing state lines.
Dave in Green
The court document says he's planning to apply for readmission to UA in the near future, so maybe he's just visiting his family in PR before returning to Akron.
Quickzips
Exactly how many PGs do we want to have on the roster for next season?BetancourtEvans (a PG in size only)RobothamAntino JacksonAbreuI get it that our PG situation was a mess last year, but we only have so many roster spots with which to try to fix it, and there are only so many minutes at PG to go around. Dave in Green
The court document doesn't mention that he wants to play basketball at UA, just that he wants to complete his degree. I'm all for that. I'm not counting on him rejoining the team.
Balsy
The only Akron Zips jersey that Alex Abreu will wear again is the cheaply made ones that they give out to fans in the stands. Now that's not a dig at Alex, because everyone makes mistakes...hopefully he has learned from his, and hopefully he will complete his degree and make something positive for himself. Zipmeister
Abreu is NOT part of the team. Add invited walk-on Malcolm Walters who is contributing. Malcolm was the starting point guard for division one state champions Lakewood St. Edward. It's all good. Abreus' focus recently has changed from getting more minutes to getting less years.
