ZippyRulz
New M & P appointment: Matt Newhouse http://www.gozips.com/general/2016-17/releases/20160825fq7o12
Captain Kangaroo
Congrats to Matt! He was a good friend to ZipsNation back in the Waddell era...which was really the hey day for UA Marketing. Nothing has remotely approached that level of enthusiasm and creativity since. Great hire! Welcome home Matt!
Valpo Zip
That's a wonderful appointment. Matt was the graduate student who started the Ak-Rowdies organization back in 2004-2005. He was the one who planned the switch-a-roo at Kent state and as CK pointed out, those were the best marketing times of UA athletics. I am so happy to see Akron hiring its own loyal "qualified" sons. This is how you build pride. Because those guys actually work for more than a paycheck. Willy Kolman was the first one, Matt Newhouse now and I am hoping to see a third one in the Athletic Department soon. #gozips
kreed5120
It looks like he was just a little before my time (I started Akron in '07). It certainly won't be an easy task, but Akron athletics has never been better so he has that going for him. Overall I've been very pleased with the work Larry Williams has done up to this point. I'm not sure how much ticket sales are up for the fall sports, but they've certainly been pushing them. I also like the concept behind the Music Fest. Blue & Gold
Matt is one awesome, dude. I know him personally. He's both passionate and intelligent, a rare combo. He also bleeds blue & gold

skip-zip
Just a question for everyone. Although we know that LeBron's name is gold around here. If it's a ZIPS jersey, and not a Miami Heat or Cavs jersey, wouldn't you rather have a famous Zips player's name on the back? Or, maybe no name at all? Maybe just "Zips"? I'm way too old to wear basketball jerseys, but I've always wanted to have one. I just find it odd that we'd put a name on it that's never worn a Zips jersey. And yes, I say all of this fully aware of the LeBron impact.
LZIp
I want that jersey.

But, my comment was more about the type of Jersey that I, personally, would want for my Zips merchandise collection.

skip-zip
Well, since I was in school 30+ years ago, I guess that rules me out anyway.
K92
Rumor is, LeBron had on his Zips jersey underneath his OSU leather jacket while he was at the Michigan game over the weekend.
kreed5120
If Akron actually produced an NBA player that today's college student actually knew, having a former player jersey night might actually be a viable option.

I think more students would be interested in getting the LeBron James Zips jersey than the "Zips" Zips Jersey...and what famous Zips player would the emulate on a Jersey? Fritz Nagy? No, I get it. It seems like some people who responded would rather have LeBron's name on their jersey. I was just wondering what everyone thought. I personally would rather have something added to my collection that said Zips, or a Zips player. I love LeBron, but I don't collect LeBron artifacts

skip-zip
That title game against MTSU is still one of my best JAR memories. That title was so unexpected. Watching the game against Michigan a few days later might have been just as exciting. Great memories.
morris buttermaker
Free tickets for the students (not really), $60 season tickets for the public... same wins....and losses, year after year... same 2,600- 3,200 people year after year. Maybe it's just not that big a deal to very many people. I think you can try a number of different marketing ideas, giveaways etc, but after so many years, I think the interest level of MAC athletics has been determined. Dog tags? are those going to move the needle? You either want to go to the games or not.

I prefer having something for a Zips player in my collection. I got the LeBron bobblehead that went with the KD bobblehead and gave it to a kid who politely asked for it after the game. Who knows, he may have gone off and sold it, but I like to think that it meant something to him...much more than it would have to me. I'm ecstatic that LeBron is the guy who brought the first championship in 52 years to Cleveland, but I don't collect LeBron memorabilia. I have the Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis bobbleheads, but not the LeBron. I have the Charlie Frye (missed the Jason Taylor, I guess) and also the DeAndre Yedlin bobbleheads. Hoping they will do a series of Mens soccer player bobbleheads...Darlington Nagbe, Scott Caldwell, Chad Barson, etc., and perhaps a Caleb Porter. I even bought a Teal Bunbury (Sporting KC) bobblehead for a reasonable price on eBay.
