2015 Spring Schedule

Recommended Posts

The soccer team released their 2015 spring schedule today. It's a very interesting schedule featuring two games against professional teams, with one of them being at home. I don't remember them ever doing the doubleheaders before. Maybe I am wrong though? I like it, as it gives them the opportunity to have the entire team play an entire game on the same day. What does everyone else think of the schedule?

A doubleheader sounds rough - this isn't baseball where players are standing around most of the game. Especially considering they're only doubleheaders for us, the other teams are only playing one game. Sounds exhausting to me.

This sentence from the article:

Akron will travel down I-71 to battle the Columbus Crew in an exhibition tilt on March 20 at 1 p.m. before venturing back to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field to host Walsh later that same evening at 7 p.m.

Ouch. More power to 'em, I guess.

I thinking they split up into two different teams and each team plays one of the two games, but I guess we'll see. Either way, its obvious that the coaches want the players to have more time together leading into the fall.

  • 3 weeks later...

so are the zips still playing Wright State on that day at Cub Cadet Field?

one part of the team in pittsburgh and other part of team in Akron?

I doubt the Wright game will happen. If it does, it won't be in Akron. The field is still covered with snow. I assume thats why they moved the Pittsburgh game.

glad to see that Wright State will travel to Pittsburgh as well. Jared obviously wanted many guys to get playing time so glad to see that they will be able to play 2 games.

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's soccer team under the direction of third-year head coach Jared Embick will open its spring exhibition schedule this Sunday, March 15, as the Zips travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to battle the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL (United Soccer Leagues) and Wright State. Game times at Highmark Stadium are set for 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.

That is a beautiful stadium. Great atmosphere too.

The April 10th date will make for a nice doubleheader with baseball (vs NIU at 3pm). I'm thinking Penn Station for dinner in between. ;)

For those planning to go to the Zips v Crew Spring match this Friday (March 20th), my understanding is that it is not at Mapfre (Crew) Stadium, but at Columbus Crew Training Facility - 4153 Alum Creek Dr, Obetz, OH, 43207.

Is it confirmed that match at Crew is open to public?

I've e-mailed the Akron Ath Dept to try to confirm. I thought the original Spring games announcement on GoZips.com stated the match was at the training facility in Obetz, but looking back at it, it does not. I can't remember how I originally knew it will be there, but I did confirm that with one of the Zips Mens Soccer team assistants in Pittsburgh. He did not indicate that it wasn't open to the public, but I didn't specifcally ask. Although, I did say "see you Friday vs the Crew"... edit: ...and he gave me no indication that I couldn't be there.

A competent Sports Information Director would have distributed this.

Perhaps we should all e-mail him.
