AKRON-PITTSBURGH CONNECTIONS
Akron has six players from Pennsylvania on its roster, including four from the Western side of the state– freshman OL Brock Boxen (New Galilee, Pa./Beaver Falls HS), sophomore S Zach Guiser (Fayette City, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic HS), sophomore TE Michael Kish (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood HS), and sophomore QB Thomas Woodson (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway Senior HS).

Pittsburgh has 12 players from Ohio on its roster, but just three that hail from Northeast Ohio —
freshman RB Darrin Hall (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown HS), redshirt freshman LB Jamal Davis II (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley HS), and senior DL Darryl Render (Cleveland, OH/St. Edward HS).

Panthers' offensive line coach John Peterson served as Akron's offensive line coach last season.
UA sophomore LB/WR Jerome Lane (Akron, Ohio) is the son of Pitt basketball alum Jerome Lane (1985-88). A first round draft pick by the Denver Nuggets in 1998, Lane spent five seasons in the NBA.

Zips' sophomore QB Tra'Von Chapman enrolled at Pitt in spring 2013 and participated in spring drills before transferring to Ashland University. He joined the Zips last year, sitting out the 2014 season per the NCAA transfer rule.

George Thomas just tweeted that 20k tickets have already been sold for the game. Add in students (who always show up in force for the first game, if none of the others) and this crowd will be huge.

If the Zips can beat an ACC team in front of 20k+, you have to think some of those fans (obviously not the Pitt fans) will be back for another game. It's not exactly a "must win", but it would be huge for the program.

I was about to say the exact same thing. I'm brining a couple of my alumni friends whom have't been to a game since we went to the 2010 Syracuse game together. They've mentioned that if all of my hype for the 2015 Zips is correct, and the Zips look decent they'll come with me to another game.

With all the new students coming to this game, we ABSOLUTELY MUST WIN THIS GAME!

EA of the PD plays a "MAC by the Numbers" game.

There is also a poll.

Which MAC team has the best chance at pulling a Week 2 upset.

Toledo at Arkansas

Akron vs. Pitt

Buffalo at Penn State

Miami at Wisconsin

UMass at Colorado

Bowling Green at Maryland

What? No Can't? They might pull the upset on Delaware State. . .

Da dum tsss.

George Thomas is a jerk. I know you read here, George, and I don't care. You are a jerk. Mocking of the program begins about 44:50. It's not so much the content, it's the tone. Something was cut out. I would love to hear that was. And of course, George went to that other school in Ohio. Time to let the ABJ know we have had it with George.

He comes in around 40 min into the audio.

zipsoutsider.....I realize he went to OSWho, and doesn't hide it. But how does that appear when he's the ABJ's chosen representative to report about the Zips? Underhanded "mocking" should not be tolerated.

Steve French went to school at OU. But you would never know it. Whether his comments are positive or negative, you don't get a condescending tone.

Looking at the hourly weather forecast, it's now predicting that the chance of rain will greatly diminish between 5 and 6 p.m. Saturday. Since weather forecasts are correct about half of the time, we may or may not be sitting in the rain tomorrow.

Hourly forecast seems somewhat consistent on the "showers". Hopefully it will be like yesterday evening's "showers" where I cut my grass for two hours and hardly got wet.
