You suggested one of the best members of this forum was sent here because KD was, for some reason, desperate. I can't attribute that to anything else. Maybe it was a joke? In the first 4 games, we were outshot at the foul line, 96 to 73, In the last 4 games we outshot the opposition 95 to 57 and are shooting around 80% at the foul line. In our last game we had 18 assist. We are no longer seeing guys dribble left, dribble right and shoot a three or a pick and pop three. The ball is going through our big men who draw fouls, our wings are attacking the basket and our three point shots are coming off assist. I think KD has done a good job of getting these guys to play good team ball and stop taking the easy three ball. Further, this is the only year that I can remember where there have not been any complaints from this board about the rotation. KD is playing 7 guys full time and the frosh, Josh and Ivey, are getting about 25 minutes together. Although the post might be premature, I think KD has done a good job turning this team around. I think KD is a great coach and we have first class student athletes at Akron. But the last 2 games were frustrating since I think we should have won both games if we played anywhere near our midseason form or how we played at home. When you look at the last 2 losses, you see that the team went away from what was working. In the last 2 games there was very little if any penetration from anyone. Everything was from the perimeter or from Big Dog. In the Buffalo game we shot only 2 foul shots the entire game and that was in the first minute. In the Ohio State game, Big Dog has 16 foul shots, Antino 3 and Big Dog 1. Basically we had almost no penetration from any of our guards except maybe Antino. Ivey played 5 minutes total the last 2 games. We have 3 small guards that are not very athletic, (Antino has some quickness) not good rebounders, do not box out well and have a difficult time penetrating to the basket. They are good passers, good shooters, and do not turn the ball over. However, when they do not shoot well, we are not going to win many games. I would liked to see Jimond play the 2 guard instead of the wing to take advantage of this ability to penetrate to the basket. Jimond played 5 minutes in our last 2 games and scored 4 points. Noah played 80 minutes in the last 2 games and scored 5 points. KD indicated he was going to play Jimond more and it just did not happen. For this team to reach the tournament we are going to have to win 3 games in 3 days. I remember after the Green Bay game how KD indicated that the team was tired and that is why they played so poorly. Kwan had a terrible game at Green Bay. Well the same thing happened at the Q. We need to learn to play tired, We need to have some back to back games. We had some great wins away in the middle of the season at Ball State and at Ohio. However, at the end of the season we lost at Kent and at Miami. We did not peak at the end of the season. KD is a great coach for Akron but this season was a season of 2 lost opportunities. Lets learn from our losses and get our first tournament win next year. Go Zips!
GJGood
Good post above. I agree this team needs to learn to play better when tired. I will not complain about the tired thing with respect to the Buffalo game since both teams were playing their third game in three days. The OSU game, though, one team clearly had an advantage in the "tiredness" category. Against OSU it was game 4 in six days and OSU was much more rested. I still wonder why the NIT scheduled the team that played most recently prior to the start of its tourney to also be one of the teams that tipped off in its very first game. The game could just as easily have been scheduled for 24 hours later with the same TV coverage by simply switching the ESPN2 Wednesday 7:00 and ESPN Tuesday 7:00 games. We'll never know if that would have made a difference in our game in the NIT or not but it is possible that it could have. I also think the first thing that tends to go when the legs get tired is the three point shot. Since that was so much of Akron's arsenal this season I do think the Zips could be more susceptible to the fatigue factor in that regard. That being said, though, the Zips do usually use a 10 or 11 man rotation which should keep players a little more fresh. Long story short, I'm only going to consider tiredness as part of the explanation with the OSU game. Against Buffalo both teams should have been equally tired. While the Zips were probably the more tired team against Green Bay I still think that was more a case of a letdown game after beating Arkansas and playing a highly ranked Villanova. zippy5
I believe the Lady Buckeyes had a home game the next night so there was a scheduling conflict?

Good point, although, their women hosted their NCAA tournament games at St. John Arena. Value City Arena did have high school state semifinals coming in on Thursday, not sure if they would have requested that no games be played Wednesday to prepare for that though since it seems like all they really had to do was cord off some of the upper deck and put some star logos on the middle of the floor to represent where the teams were coming from.
